Marco Penge, the breakout star of the golfing world, has put to rest rumors of a move to LIV Golf by confirming his participation in the PGA Tour next season.
The English golfer has had an exceptional season, clinching his third DP World Tour victory of the year at the Spanish Open on Sunday. The 27-year-old powerhouse narrowly defeated Dan Brown in a playoff to secure the $552,000 title at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. It comes after Jon Rahm decided to end his season after the tournament.
Beginning the year outside the top 400 in the global rankings, Penge’s victories in China, Denmark, and Spain have catapulted him to the 31st spot worldwide. His performance is all the more remarkable given that he missed the start of the season due to a three-month suspension for betting on golf tournaments he wasn’t participating in.
Currently, Penge holds the second position in the DP World Tour’s Race To Dubai rankings, trailing only Masters champion Rory McIlroy. The top-10 finishers in the rankings who aren’t already PGA Tour members earn the privilege to play stateside in 2026.
Penge’s outstanding form has already secured his PGA Tour card, but there were whispers that he might join LIV Golf at the end of the season. This would have seen him follow in the footsteps of Adrian Meronk, who declined the opportunity to join the PGA Tour two years prior.
LIV is poised to launch a significant recruitment drive this offseason, with numerous roster spots left open after seven players were relegated at the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.
Rising stars like Penge fit the bill for LIV teams looking to bolster their rosters, but he confirmed after getting his hands on the trophy in Madrid on Sunday that he has his heart set on playing in America next year.
“I’m going to America tomorrow with my wife to find a place for when we move in January,” he told Ten Golf. “So as far as I’m aware, I’m playing the PGA Tour next year and hopefully I’ll have a great season and finish in the playoffs there and then come back to the DP World Tour and play the rest of the season here.
“I love playing golf and I’d play every week if my team let me. So yeah, I want to be playing against the best players in the world and I want to be playing national opens like this. When you win a couple of national opens, that’s something that I’ll never forget and something that my family will never forget. So, that’s my plan.”
DON’T MISS:
Penge still has plenty to compete for on the DP World Tour this year, though. He is not scheduled to participate in the final regular-season tournaments, which will take place in India and South Korea, respectively, over the next two weeks.
But he is certain to be a major contender in the playoffs, which kick off with the Abu Dhabi Championship on Nov. 6, followed by the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on Nov. 13.
