Your life was bad to you, just think what tomorrow will do. Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow. The Fleetwood Mac Daddy, Tommy Fleetwood gets PGA Tour win number one and his 164th start. Tommy, most of us find it very difficult to leave the past behind. What was the best coaching advice you received in an attempt to do that coming down the stretch on Sunday at East Lake? Uh, well, that’s a great question. I think I’m very very lucky with um the people that I have around me, the people that um I get to speak to about my game or my family. Um it was just a case of staying uh I guess I had to stay resilient with all the setbacks that I had. But when I when I was out there, you know, these are the these are really the best times of your life. And um uh it was an amazing opportunity for me again this this week and today. And I just had to focus on all the good things. Um staying stay in my bubble, if you like. uh try and stay as present as possible. And yeah, doubt doubts were going to creep in. Um thinking about the past and and times when I’ve got it wrong was was obviously going to creep in, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not going to happen this time. I did say that. Um just because it hasn’t happened before doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen this time or the next time or the next time. And um stay true to my word and I was just really really proud and pleased of how I managed to uh play down the stretch there. LeBron James was posting about you, Caitlyn Clark, Shooter McGavin as well. Your hero Tiger Woods, the people in attendance have been pulling for you. All of America have been pulling for you. This Englishman from Southport, just north of Liverpool, who looks like a 1960s fifth beetle. Why do you think that was the case? Um, I’ve always I I think first of all, I’ve always been very lucky with the connection that I make with people and the connection that I make with the fans and I’ve always had amazing support and I’ve always been very grateful. Um, I I I think people seem to have appreciated uh what this story has been. Um, a story of always bouncing back, always being positive, always being resilient, um, getting on the horse again and going again. And um I I I think people have I I guess people have appreciated that and um I feel lucky that I’ve had the chance to show that and at the end of it all I get the chance to prove that um it can happen for you if you if you just keep going and um you know I’m I’m very I’m so so grateful for the support that everybody has shown and um yeah today has been an amazing day. Phil Mickelson had numerous close calls with majors finally broke through in his 34th year on Earth. He went on to win six majors. You’re in your 34th year on Earth as you get PGA Tour win number one. Do you expect to get into the winner circle more now that you’ve got this first win? What can this win do for you, Tommy? Well, we’ll see. I think I I I always I’ve always said um that it’s it’s not that I’ve ever dream dreamt about winning one PJ Tour event. I’ve always felt like I want to win multiple uh and plenty of them. It’s just that to do that you have to win the first. Um who knows? It might take me 164 events to win a second one again. I don’t know. But um if if it does then then so be it. I will uh I will keep trying. I’ll keep working and I’ll keep playing. Um to you know to have a similar comparison in any such way as Phil Mickelson. I I feel like he’s had one of the best careers in golf and uh I think he’s a very inspiring golfer and I think um uh to to be compared in any way is is uh you know is is very very kind and hopefully um and yeah it’ll be it would be amazing to think that this can catapult me on um forwards now and I can I can win quicker than I did this time. But um the work never stops. Uh just because I’ve win one one doesn’t mean I’m going to win more. I have to continue to work and I have to keep continue to show the right attitude and put myself up there and give myself opportunities and and we’ll see what we can do from here. Tommy, you didn’t have hockey hair during your first PGA Tour event in 2013. You had a count hair. Uh what compelled you to grow the lettuce and what have you learned about yourself? What have you learned about yourself on this journey to PGA Tour win number one? Yeah. Um I uh grow my hair. I don’t know. I let my hair grow. My wife kind of liked it. I feel like it covers up some dodgy features that I might have. So, uh I’ll I’ll keep it. I’ll keep it for the time being. Um and I think I’ve just shown um I think I’ve shown myself what uh what what can happen with the right attitude and um I’m very very pleased with that. Like I say, I’m happy that I’ve had the chance to show resilience and show uh and prove that it can pay off and um I I’ll keep that with me for a very long time. Well, the late great Chrissy McVy of Fleetwood Mack wrote the classic Don’t Stop. And like you, she was born in England. And as she wrote, Tommy, yesterday’s gone, yesterday’s gone.
