Ireland made a huge improvement on day two of the Eisenhower Trophy as they moved into contention for a top-10 finish in Singapore.
The Boys in Green were ten shots better than their opening effort and are now in a share of 14th place on two-under-par after responding to Wednesday’s four-over round with a superb six-under.
They still trail South Africa, led by world number six Christiaan Maas by twelve shots at the halfway stage. The South Africans hold a five shot lead over Australia, France and England on fourteen-under.
The round of the day on the Irish team came from Irish Amateur and Close champion Stuart Grehan who fired five birdies and just one bogey in a four-under round of 68.
That round was backed up by provincial slam champion Caolan Rafferty who got himself into the counting scores with a round of 70 that was bookended by birdies.
Cork teenager John Doyle by no means disgraced himself with a one-over 73 on a day where all three players improved on their previous round score.
Maas also leads the individual leaderboard on twelve-under-par while Grehan is fourteenth on three-under.
Rafferty is one-over with Doyle plus four.
