Twenty-one year old Eugene Wong recently achieved what very few tour players ever experience. Not only did he win in just his fourth professional event but he backed it up with a second and a third championship performance in three consecutive weeks including the Canadian Tour (PGA Tour Canada) Championship, the Vancouver Golf Tour Vancouver Open, and the Canadian Tour (PGA Tour Canada) Great Waterway Classic .
Three weeks, three wins. Over those three victories, he was a combined forty-five under par!
Eugene has a decorated amateur career in the books as well, and prior to joining IMG and turning professional this June he was the number one ranked Amateur in Canada. At the University of Oregon he was a two-time All- American, two-time PAC 10 Player of the year, and was awarded the 2010 Jack Nicklaus award as the top player in NCAA Div I.
His strengths in golf psychology are a huge contributor to his success. He believes in himself, has a lot of confidence, and consistently finds himself performing at the highest level both internally and externally.
Listening to the interview, you will hear him talk about his general outcome goals in every event, what makes him successful on individual shots, and how he changed his course management strategy to lower his scores.
Eugene Wong is a very focused individual with a mindset of success and an empowering vision of himself playing at a world-class level.
He keeps the mental game simple. Focus on what you want, commit to the shot, and just do it. As a Nike staff player, that slogan rings true and the Nike gear seems to be working too.
