Being a professional disc golfer, it’s something I’ve dreamed about since the moment I found out you could compete in disc golf tournaments and began taking it seriously. That moment, in case you’re new to the channel or haven’t heard this before, happened in 2020. Let me catch you up to speed. I competed in my first tournament in 2020 at my local course, the Queensland State Championships. I played in MA4, the bottom amateur division, and it’s crazy to see the people who I played with in this tournament. I didn’t know any of them at the time, but they are now some of the state’s best disc golfers and are my good friends. I started finishing toward the top in MA2 the following season. So, I thought why not jump into MA1, the top amateur division in 2022. I had some good finishes, including backto-back second places. But, as my rating was below the cutoff, I played the Australian Championships at the end of that year in the MA2 division. Call it what you will, it was legal. And in the best performance of my career to that point, I won the Australian Championships. [Music] Inevitably, I moved to MA1 for good the following season and had a consistent season, but never got that win, finishing on the podium five times, four of those being second place. I didn’t want to move up into MO without getting that MA1 win. So, I played 2024 in MA1 and had probably my most successful season to date, picking up four wins, three second places, and only finishing outside the top five once, taking out the overall Queensland Tour points. So, that brings us to now where I’ve decided to play in my first professional tournament. And I feel like it’s about time. The tournament I’ve chosen for my professional debut, if you will, is the Pimona Open. It’s a slightly smaller tournament being held at a course I’ve never played before, except for the practice round I played last week. My goal, I’m not expecting too much and mainly want to enjoy the experience, but really I want to play like a professional. Hey Google, define a professional disc golfer. A real professional disc golfer isn’t a guy who shows up late to league day ragging about his 960 rated round like it’s breaking news. A pro is someone who earns hundreds of thousands of dollars, signs multi-million dollar sponsorships, hoist world championship trophies, and averages thousands per tournament. So yes, by comparison, you’re not just not professional. You’re in a different budget tier. Real pros train circle two putts like their tapins and bomb 500 plus foot drives. You flinch if someone drops a mini behind you and need a spotter just to survive a tunnel shot. You’re a passionate hobbyist with a dream and a bush nail rangefinder. And that’s okay. Just don’t compare yourself to people whose worst rounds still beat your career best. Many people say that if you shoot a thousand rated, you’re a professional or at least highly respected. So today, I want to shoot at least one a,000 rated round to justify my play in the professional division. And I’ve never shot a 1,000 rated round before, but today’s the day. Also to cash too would be pretty nice, I guess. [Music] Half of the divisions played the day before and only one person had shot 1,000 rated in one of their rounds. So, it was likely that I’d have to shoot around 9 or 10 under to be considered a true professional. Also, guys, check it out. This is my setup because I’ve broken my tripod. We’ve got rubber band done up really tightly around the bottom and so it’s tight enough to strap around here and hopefully hold the mount on and it’s balancing precariously on here. So, not ideal, but we’ll see how it goes. In my practice round, I discovered that this course sets up really well if you have a good forehand. And thankfully, that was one of the few parts of my game feeling good coming into the tournament. If I could make my putts and capitalize on my good forehands, a thousand raider definitely felt possible. I’m kind of glad my broken tripod caused my camera to miss my first shot cuz it was early left and straight out of bounds. Oh boy. [Music] body. [Music] Oh my good. So far, not the most confident start to my first ever professional tournament. Hello. This guy normally friend. Oh yeah. Now today I’ll say nemesis. That’s a bit nicer. Well, foe. You’re my foe. Fe number one of the day. Yeah, absolutely. Nick, my foe, beat me back in our very first tournament. So, I was hoping to beat him in this tournament to write the scales. [Music] I like the height. Yeah. Getting there. Wow. It’s a lot more. It’s going to be first birdie on the board, but we’re going to need a lot more of those to shoot pro-rated disc golf. Yeah. Come on. We got to pop from there, Nick. Come on. Come on. Don’t know if you caught it, but maybe that bird flying across in front of me is a good omen. Dang. In case you weren’t aware, a true professional wouldn’t miss all these shorts. I’m going to have to lock in and start making those if I want to justify being in the professional division. [Music] That one was rubbish. Even though it wasn’t a major tournament, there’s still something to say about the nerves of being in the professional division. Having good friends on the card, including Nick, who I’m often filming videos with, definitely helped. Five bucks. Five bucks. Yeah. Not impossible. Oh, you almost had one. I started celebrating, too. Dang it. That was so close. My goal of making some cash could have been achieved earlier than I thought. Oh, that looks great. Josh for I didn’t think about the Yeah, man. Every shot of this, of course. My wife’s telling me I’ve done my step for the day. [Music] Given how forehand friendly this course is, beating my number one foe who has a very good forehand could prove difficult. Or just do that and absolutely throw the Can you record that one? Yep. [Music] Yeah, that’s good. Sure. I’m going to put one on this guy. That was a good fight. I’m going to ruin the donation to charity. With two great drives, there’s a chance for an eagle on hole 10, which would be huge in my pursuit of my first ever pro-rated round. That’s good in this game. Yeah. Nice. I should have recorded Nick’s shot because he threw a forehand from near where I was and has put it to eagle range. So, things will get interesting. Mine managed to stay safe just so I’ve got to just hopefully chip up for birdie. But this could be big. Got to beat my nemesis. Josh has got an eagle attempt. Not bad. Not bad. [Music] Oh, come on. Wow. I’d started picking things up a bit after my rough start, but given how the tournament had been going so far, I still felt like a bit of a fraud in the professional division. Making this part would help with that though. [Music] Why would they just stay in? Hole 13 is one of the toughest holes on the course. Come out. Come out. [Music] Is that parked? So when Nick absolutely laced it with a forehand, I felt there was pressure to do the same. Oh, through the gap. Oh my god. Basket strike. It just was a little left. Baskets don’t like that left side, do they? No, they don’t actually. They do spit left. Also, if these holes are looking similar to the front nine, it’s because this course uses nine baskets with alternate teapads to make the full 18. Beautiful. Great shot. Thank you. Nice, Josh. This is my $5 hole, Josh. If you make it, you get $5. I give you $150 for me. Yeah. All right. $650. That’s not bad. Change. Number one. He didn’t want that. $650. This is fun. You having fun? Yeah, I am. Are you going to throw it in circle one? Get it? Circle. Circle. Circle one. Circle one. I’ll try my best. I’ll try my best. Are you changing polos after first round? Absolutely. Got to got to pay everyone what I got. Of course, if I want to play like a professional, then the first step is to look like a professional. Hence the polos I’m wearing from circle one. If the twotime world champion wears these polos, I think I’m doing something right. The one I’m wearing in round one is the Grandma’s Couch Blade collar polo. And the one you’ll see in round two is another one of my favorites, the space polo with the regular collar. Try some for yourself using the discount link down below and see if they help you play like a professional. And to play like a professional, I’ve also got to have the right discs courtesy of Disov Warehouse. You can also grab some of those for yourself using the discount link down below. Oh, beautiful. Oh, I beautiful him. That’s still a great shot. Decent. So bad. Have another go. Nice throw, Josh. Very picturesque. We’re going long drive. That’s a nice shot up. Thank you. Beautiful part, Josh. All right. Post round one. Mhm. Tied. Yeah, we’re tied. The the nemesis. Is that the plural? I’m not sure. Sure. But tied. Hopefully lead carding in round two. I think we will be. Yeah. And hopefully only a couple back from Ryan. He might become the new nemesis, I think. Yeah, agree. For round two, we hate Ryan. He He was a friend. He was a B. He’ll be now. He’s now a massive foe. He’s a massive foe. Yeah. Let’s see see how if we can catch up to him. Game plan for round two. If I can get 10 birdies, then I think that’ll give me a chance a chance even if small at catching up to Ryan and Joe who are ahead. And also at being a professional disc golfer and shooting a 1,000 rated round, seeing as it didn’t happen in round one. Now, obviously, I’ve probably got to get no bogeies as well. That would be helpful. But 10 birdies, score a bit better. I think that’ll give me a good shot. And there’s still a chance that I could win my first ever MO tournament in my first ever tournament. Let’s go. I don’t know when my goals changed, but apparently I’m so competitive that I don’t just want to play like a pro disc golfer. I also want to win my first ever professional tournament. Also, guys, I don’t know if you noticed in the videos, but check out the new JMO patch on the bag. Look how sick it looks. Oh man, looking great. If you’d like one, hit me up and we can make it happen. Here he is. The new nemesis. The the new foe. Where’s he going? He’s running away from the challenge. He was a teammate. He’s now a nemesis. Yeah, we don’t like that. This is old nemesis. This is new nemesis. And then we got guy who we all hope wins. Let’s go. Round two, baby. Come on. Oh, just hit a tree or hit a house or hit a baby. Go skip. That’s for one shot, Nick. Oh yeah. Yo. Yeah, Josh. Joshy. So, after just the first hole of the second round, Nick, Ryan, Joe, and I were all tied at the top. Great shot. No. Oh my wow. Tournament for the first time inside the mind of the player. Have you won tournament? No, I haven’t won an NPA tournament, Josh. Thanks for letting me know, mate. A bit of an up and down start from the whole group, but I’d started much better than round one. So, my pursuit of my first ever pro-rated round was looking pretty good so far. Nice, Nick. I’ve got to show some shots of this guy, too. He’s only like 16 and he’s throwing some of the cleanest back ends on the lead card of an NO tournament. Joe, I’m calling it. Oh, great run. Thank you. Good line. Very good line. Do it. Oh, he’s called it again. Let’s go, Nick. I like that, Josh. Beautiful. Oh, we beautiful. Good shot at him. Nice, Ryan. Guys, my phone literally my watch literally buzzed as I was about to put telling me what is it saying? A high level slowed your recovery. You want to take it easy until you’re fully recharged. Recovery time. How long does it say? 7 hours. We don’t have 7 hours. I had to keep pushing though because the scores were heating up and this tournament was up for grabs for anyone. Nice. Exact same spot you were last time, I think. Did I miss it last time? No, you made it. Let’s go. Dies. Oh, go. Get in the bucket. Get in the bucket. Oh, wow. Nice, Ryan. Great shot. Nice. Great shot. Get around that. Oh no. That’s good. Yeah. Little long. Yeah, very long. Oh, shot. Nick parked it. He can thank me for my shot advice for that one. That was not the shot of a professional. Oh, great. Look at that. Oh, love you, Morty. And both Nick and Ryan got buttoned up birdies. Nice, Nick. Going into the last nine holes of my first ever professional tournament, I didn’t really expect to have a shot at the win, but I’m right in the mix and I still have a chance at achieving my goal. Great shot. I’m not fully sure of the scores. I think Nick has just gone one ahead with that birdie. Maybe even Ryan as well might be one ahead of me potentially. So, got some work to do. Nine holes to go. Let’s make it happen. Let’s get it. We’re sitting at a clean four down after the front nine. So, I really needed to light it up on the back if I was going to reach that magic number of 9 or 10 under par shot. Nick, what a scramble. Let’s go. [Music] Nice, Josh. Good birdie. And just like that, I’ve tied it back up. Looks great to me. Come on. Let’s go. I can’t let my OG foe big putt me like that. A real pro would step up in a big moment like this and make the nice good catch. Wow. The basket over it. Okay. Whoa. That’s a good gap. shot. What? Unfortunately, Nick was having some struggles on this difficult hole. So, this putt for birdie could be huge for me in beating my foe and potentially getting my first ever professional win. No, get down. D. [Music] Wow, that thing turned so much. Josh, it did. Oh, it did. Nice, Ryan. The scores were still close and I’d seen Ryan almost ace this hole in our practice round. Oh, lovely. You’re in the basket. Ryan, I got the chain. Nice shot, Ryan. Sitting at eight under par with three holes to go, I only needed a couple more birdies to potentially shoot my first ever pro-rated round, as well as winning the overall tournament, which I think would count as playing like a professional. Nice, Josh. All right, guys. Apologies that I haven’t been doing too many check-ins and that this is a bit quiet, but yeah, missed an annoying part there. And then made a in a couple of holes ago. Made a good putt then. Good birdie. Somehow the Athena worked out. That was crazy. And I don’t know the scores. I think I’m in the lead. I think I’m in the lead. Not sure about how much. I only got two holes left to play. So I’m just going to try and birdie them. I think if I do that I’ll be with a good shot. But just got to avoid any crazy mistakes. I think I’m bogey free this round and I’ve only missed like a couple of putts I should have made. So finish strong. That’s not good. Nice, Josh. Beautiful shot. Yep, that’ll work. Okay, that should be up there, right? Yeah. Here’s the equation. If Ryan throws this shot in for eagle and I take par, which is likely from where I am, we’ll be tied. Go. I’m not here. You know what you should do? You should throw it way past over the path OB. Oh, like this. Yeah. Give your old pal Nick the win. I could run this part to get to 10 under or just lay it up to guarantee the win. A bit longer than I wanted, but I could be okay. I think I’m not good at this layup business. Yes. Very nice. Very nice. Woo. Wow. Joshy, congratulations, dude. Debut. Debut win. Let’s go. You want to say anything, Josh? Um, wow, that was nerve-wracking. Probably the most nervous shot, but what a round. These guys are awesome. Nick, you are too too kind. Yeah, I did the double bogey on purpose. Nick, yep, and basically did all of the filming as well. So, much appreciated. I still can’t quite believe it. After all these years making my way up through the divisions, I’ve just won my first ever professional tournament in the first ever pro event I played. I cannot thank you guys enough for the support and I couldn’t have written this script any better. So, all glory to God for being the master author. Unfortunately, my 9 under par round wasn’t quite enough to shoot 1,000 rated today. So, I’m still on the hunt for my first ever pro-rated round, but I did have a heap of fun. As for making cash, yeah, you going to take cash or you going to take comment down below. Should I take cash? So, is this official? Should I play in the professional division from now on? Or maybe more accurately, am I a professional disc golfer? Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below and consider liking the video if you enjoyed it. Make sure you’re also subscribed so that you don’t miss out on more of the fun that is my Aussie disc golf journey. We’ll catch you in the next one. [Music]
