It’s my flipping nemesis. Now, that’s not what I said. Well, actually, to be fair, I have said that a few times. This is what Steve said in a lesson two days ago. He came to me and was like, “Alex, anytime I’m on the golf course, mate, if I’ve got to carry all the way on my second shot with like an eight iron, where I can’t run it up short of the green because there’s bunkers there, I end up just getting nervous and fatting the golf ball.” Pretty much like the scenario I’ve got right here on the 14th at Motram. He then said not to name that. When I get a long pile of three, when I’m forced to hit a five iron or a sixiron, I do the exact same thing. So, I actually ran out here with the 14th and the 16th and I showed him this. If you simply do not shift enough weight into your left side at impact, our circle doesn’t move ahead of the ball. And what I mean by that is our lowest point. So, that black line there, that one just there, let’s imagine my fist is the golf ball. Anytime we transfer our weight towards target in this direction, it moves ahead of the ball, meaning we can hit down. If we don’t transfer our weight, it might move back, leading to thin shots at best. But exactly what Steve was doing was catching it a little bit heavy, especially in this scenario. So, all I said to him was, and he wanted a quick fix, like we all do, is can we feel it? And this is what Cameron Young was doing. Can we just feel before every shot as we’re addressing that ball a bit of weight shift and a bit of hip turn where I feel I’ve got 7030 weight pressure and really feel that. So it would felt like a little bit this back hit it. So it’s almost like you’re preempting you’re preilling. I don’t know. You’re like just confirming to your brain what you want to do like where you want to get that weight. And with not having a lot of time to practice, he was like, “Oh, feel like I’ve got something then to work into. Make it look and feel a little bit like this.” Okay, I wonder. We’ve hit a cracking t-shot here. Let’s see if we can make a birdie. Right. Let’s see and get this close. I’ve got a iron. Let’s see if we can do it. So, simply just like this. Think this is controlling, giving you a better chance of feeling where the bottom of the arc is. It’s a little trick you can take straight out onto the course. Feel it back. Hit. Oh, now if you haven’t already, get close. Look at the spin on that. If you were here now, I’d be giving you a little douche high five. That was insane. If you haven’t already, that shot right there definitely deserves a subscribe. That felt so good. We’ve got a chance of making a birdie here, guys. And this is the reaction that Steve had. He was so excited because he started hitting some iron shots. I would say sort of before he was hitting 20% good and then he started hitting 70% of them like that where poof ball then divot without really having to think about it just cuz he was making sure his brain was like oh that’s what I’ve got to feel that was just so good. Look at this. We’ve got a chance of making a birdie. Now I mentioned tempo and that’s such a huge part of this. Look how close this is. We’ll talk tempo but let’s see if we can make birdie. How about that shot right there? Oh my. That is one of the best iron shots I’ve actually actually hit myself nearly hit myself in the head in a very very long time. That is exactly what people are saying inside the hub, too. Like look at this comment. They’re following the blueprint for irons. And right now, if you want a PDF for this, too, I’ll give you a link to the end to a free PDF for iron strikes. That was unreal. Right. Okay. Let’s see if we can make a birdie. Also, I hope you enjoyed the driver video from the other day. I saw a few comments saying they’re really enjoying how the driver’s becoming straighter and that’s really great to hear. Come on. You know what? It’ be great to start this off with a birdie, wouldn’t it? I’ve been experimenting with the claw grip. You know, the one Scotty Sheffller is using right now and Tommy Fleetwood. It’s actually really become a grip that a lot of pros are using. And I’ll be honest, in the past, I haven’t been a fan of it. As a kid, I thought it was just a grip that people used if they couldn’t put. Maybe I was wrong cuz they can clearly put. This is sort of slightly right. and picturing it going through there. That’s something that I try and do. Maybe a foot out from the hole. Try and picture where the ball’s going to go through. I thought that was going to just bubble off. Come on. So, we’ve covered the idea of this press, but this is what’s actually at play here. The science behind it. I I I say the science it’s it’s not very well it’s scientific but it’s not very complicated because I don’t like complicated. I like simple golf tips here on this channel and that’s what you tune in for four times a week right for simple free golf tips. I’ve got me box and let me just explain it this way. I feel like this is I’m going to have five iron because I think that’s what’s going to be on the 16th. Maybe it was four iron though. Car did he have four iron? I think he might have used hybrid. Anyway, it was a long iron or hybrid. We did it with both. It works with both. So, think about why weight shift has such a big important factor. We’ve all understood it gives you a downwards hit, but I asked him a simple question. If I put a box in front of you and I said, “Push it in that direction there as far as you could.” I can actually put some force in it, how would you do it? You would go with the hands first. Well, that would be, I would say, 50% of the force. But put all you can and you’d go push your weight left and then here right I said we’re on to something. And the common denominator from all top ball strikers is they get into their left hand side their hips open and they transfer the weight. I see so many students that they think they’re transferring the weight. They’re really not. And they’ve got to do it to the point where it feels like alien. And I appreciate that is hard. But the drill I’ve just shown you is the way in which you can achieve it 70 80% of the time. I’m being realistic here with you. Okay, I mentioned tempo and I think that’s where it comes into its own when we get to those longer irons, which we’re going to go to now. Doesn’t that box just make sense? By the way, I feel like it is just a bit of a game changer cuz it’s just a realistic thing that we all can look at and go, “Yeah, you know what? I can do that little forward press like Cameron Young. Yeah, you know what? I I can understand how if I was going to put force into something that wasn’t golf, how would I do it?” So, that’s why it clicks. That’s why it sticks. And it fires quite natural. 14 done. 16 going and it looks like it might rain. We’re one under par. We’ve got one more hole to get. I mean, I’d be happy with a par here. It’s tough. There must be a par three at your course or a course you play a lot where you’re like, I can’t run it up. I have to make it all the way with carry. And that’s when your iron play is going to be exposed to it is most and that’s where you have to be on it with that feeling, but also this tempo. So, another question for you here. How’s your iron player been this year? And what is the best tip, right? What’s the best tip you have been given this year for your irions? I’d love for you to get down below in the comments and let me know on that. There’s a group just ahead of us, so we’ll let them play and then uh we’ll go on to 16. I’m a little bit stuck between what club to go with here. Does this hole just get longer every single time I play it? I’m just debating what club to hit. It’s playing 196 to the flag. I’m going to go four iron. I think the T was actually the other day a little bit further forward playing more in the 170s. That’s why it was like five irons and and and four iron for for Steve. But yeah, I’m gonna go four iron here. Gets longer every time. Why? How? How? The green the green is big. So, I’ve got me circle back. I want you to think of it again, like I said, like a circle. We already understand that we’re looking to have an impact sort of 7030 and almost working onto that instep of our right foot. Now, what I want you to be really on here with these longer irions because it’s so key is tempo. So, how I want you to think about it is let’s imagine we were swinging around this hoop. I want you in your mind to be able to count from one up to hip height, two top of the back swing, three to complete your follow through. So, in in real life, it looks something like this. One to here, two, three. With it having that flow, it looks something like one, two, three. And then something like in real life with a bit of flow. God, who’s been here before me? Logs taken. They need this tip. One, two, three. Now, that feels so slow, but I want you to take confidence in the fact that when you move the club correctly and you get those hands working ahead and we we start to compress, we find the middle more often, we’re actually becoming more efficient. So, even if it feels slow to you, like you’ve done it, right? You know you’ve done this when you’ve hit that shot, you felt like to your mates, I’ve just tapped it and it’s just boom, flown off, right? You’ve done it. I’ve done it. We’ve all done it. That’s what I’m trying to get you to think about and trying to get you to achieve more and more and more. I’m not promising it’s going to be all the time, but what I am going to promise to you that if you follow these steps, it’s going to happen more often than not. Right, that group have just moved off the green. Let’s see if we can get it close. We made a birdie. Can we make another 232 would be insane, right? It kicks in. So, we got a nice kick. We’re not close to flag, but we’ve got a put for birdie. Now, I’m going to show you this divot right here. Right. So, down the ground here. That’s where my tee was. And then look at my divot. It’s here. It’s on this side. And it’s only shallow. It’s almost like I guess a good measure of depth is like a dollar bill’s depth. That’s how I think about a good divot. It’s like a really nice dollar bill shaving off the top of the grass. It’s not too steep. There’s not no divot. That’s like a great great analogy. Now, again, I’ll say to you now, like I’m the first one to say that swing felt super slow, but actually super super smooth. And I guess that that’s what we’re searching for, right? Okay, let’s see if we can make a birdie. I think it’s actually highly likely. So, I’m going to be quite happy with the two put here. It’s like across the slope. It’s It’s a funky put. Like wait until you see it. It’s a really really funky putt. What I was saying like I I think I kicked like here and ended up here and look at the putt that we face. Holy heck. I’m looking at it right now and I’m thinking I am genuinely going to be happy with the two put here. I I’m genuinely thinking like I’ve got to start this all the way over here. I think that’s the only way to do it. But going back to those iron strikes, can you see how now that little bit of preset is getting our black line ahead of that golf ball? Having that tempo really gives you that resistance towards the urge just to really give those long irons a bit of a smack and then it all goes pee tong. You can’t get the feeling and we walk off leaving it short and leaving oursel a terrible chip. Or even at worst sometimes that could be water. Here we go. Oh, stop. Stop. Hit the flag. Hit the flag. Hit the flag. Whoa. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. That was quick. That was super quick. See if we can hold this for our path. Cuz when you’re looking at these tips on on anything, you want it to translate into better scores, right? That’s what we’re doing it for. I think it’s a little bit left to right. Had myself sweating there. Guys, let’s end on that. Don’t forget later in the week, we’re going to talk more about our driver and a little bit more about our iron play cuz there’s so much that we can cover. But like we do always on this channel, we keep it simple. Thanks for joining me today and look forward to seeing you next couple of days here on the videos.

I found swinging a club with the lead hand(only the lead hand) helps me find the correct swing path. I concentrate on proper ground contact and finish position and when I hit my sweat spot, I use both hands.
Ditch your 4 iron and get the new Apex u/w…..work smarter, not harder! 🙂
I don't know if it's a tip, but when I look at the ball I almost always chunk it. If I look 1-2 inches in front of the ball when I'm swinging, it's always a much better shot.
I really enjoy you and your tips but, at times you tend to go on, and on , and on (like when you are getting ready to put the first ball). You don’t have to keep talking (at least as far as I’m concerned).
What garbage click bait!!!
When I really think about putting my weight forward to really compress the ball, I usually fall forward(towards the hole)… is that bad to move that much? It works, I hit the ball well. I just wonder if I’m doing too much. Love watching your channel and getting your tips. I need to buy some of your clothes, we have the same initials lol
Played there a few times and went in that right bunker every time!!!
I think that high 5 looked more like a pat on the backsids 😂
