Trump administration critics are accusing the president of “corruption” after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Friday that Qatar will have an “air force facility” at an Idaho military base.
Before making the announcement at the Pentagon alongside Qatari Minister of Defense Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the defense secretary credited Qatar with playing a role in the peace deal between Israel and Gaza.
“I’m also proud that today we’re announcing, we’re signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Emeri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho,” Hegseth said.
According to the defense secretary, the base “will host a contingent of Qatari F-15s and pilots who enhance our combined training, increased lethality, inoperability. It’s just another example of our partnership …”
Trump critics were incensed at the agreement, pointing out that Qatar controversially gifted the president a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet and struck a deal for Trump’s company to build a golf resort in the Middle Eastern nation.
“The Trump administration is REALLY allowing Qatar to build an air base in the US after they did a $5.5 billion golf resort deal with Trump and gave him a jet,” tweeted Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of the anti-Trump website Meidas Touch. “MAGA can take their ‘America First’ flags and wipe their a—- with them. He is Trump First, and you are suckers.”
“The corruption is so blatant,” added Jessica Tarlov, co-host of “The Five” on Fox News.
Tommy Vietor, a former National Security Council official in the Obama administration and co-host of the liberal podcast “Pod Save America,” pointed out that Trump previously leveled terrorism allegations against Qatar.
“In 2017, Trump accused Qatar of being ‘funders of terrorism’ and now the US is going to host a Qatari military base on US soil???” he tweeted.
Liberal influencer JoJofromJerz punctuated her anger with profanity.
“Hold the f— on — Trump is letting another f—— country build an air force facility on one of our Air Force bases HERE?!?!On American soil!?!?What the literal f—?!?” she tweeted.
