Been playing consistently for 6 months now. I grew up playing golf and stopped for about 15 years and just picking it back up. My drive is good but my second shot is terrible. I usually use a 4 wood or 4 iron from 170-200 out. Should I club less and play it safe? I also don’t have a pitching wedge and use a 56 degree from anywhere 120 and less. Should I go soft 9 instead? Any tips will really help this is my first time posting!

I’m not a big guy and I used to struggle from 170-210. I hit my father’s 4 hybrid and I fell in love. These “old man” hybrids are sweet. They are very easy to hit, less effort is more. They also work out of the rough better than a long iron. Additionally they have a higher launch angle and now my shots hold the green instead of bouncing over.
Don’t be that guy who uses an iron just because he wants to look cool. Low scores are cooler😎 I ended up getting two hybrids, 4-22degress and a 6-28 degree. The 4 goes anywhere from 185-200 and the 6 is 165-180 for me. I now hold greens from over 170 consistently

Short game. Either pitching, chipping, and/or putting. Those double bogeys hurt.

I would definitely get a pitching wedge if you don’t have anything in between your nine iron and your 56° wedge that’ll cover that big gap between the nine iron and 56
