The DP World Tour makes its first visit to Spain on this season’s Race to Dubai this week with the Open de España presented by Madrid. Here are your five things to know. Angel Hidalgo returns to defend his trophy after claiming a maiden DP World Tour title in spectacular style 12 months ago. The home hero went toe-to-toe with three-time winner and two-time Major champion Jon Rahm on the final day. Just over a week from helping Europe to a Ryder Cup triumph on American soil, it is Rahm who is likely to attract the biggest galleries. The 2018, 2019 and 2022 champion is looking to surpass the late, great Seve Ballesteros with four wins in the DP World Tour era but he will have plenty of local competition. Fellow former champions Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera Bello tee it up as do Eugenio Chacarra, Alejandro del Rey, Nacho Elvira, Pablo Larrazábal and Jorge Campillo, who have all won in recent seasons. Add in the likes of David Puig and Angel Ayora and the local fans are sure to have plenty to cheer this week.

Welcome to the Official YouTube channel of the DP World Tour. Oh, hello. This could be exactly what the doctor ordered. Out of position fashion a birdie that might just light the fuse. Up to the 18th, his second shot at this shortish par four. Yeah, iron play so dialed in today. Yeah, I agree with you. Lovely stroke. Jordan Smith, he’s three over par. He also needs to get a rigle on, start finding a few birdies and a break like that won’t hurt. just stays on the short stuff and back you go for a round of 67 and to take the outright lead. Excellent. Lovely stuff from the uh Canadian after a drop shot at the first. the birdie pot for Larry at the second. Just what he needed. I think that’s a big moment in Shane’s efforts this week. So nothing off him. Well, is that a stock swing? My goodness me. He hit that hard. Oh, nice kick. Nice kick. Yeah, cracking shot from Ram. Almost the best of the day. All sitting up okay and a slight uphill slope which will help but the problem is he has shortsided himself. Not a lot of green to work with. He need to land this on a six pence and does there is nobody in the game of golf right now that can make that shot look easier. If anything it is slightly down breeze although it has died down overall. Didn’t sound a good contact either. Oh that’s done well for him. Oh boy, has that done well for him. What a break. His face. His face. [Applause] Anything inside 5 ft. Job well done. Should fancy holding this. He really should. That was as easy as it comes for John Ram. coming off an eagle at the last hole. He’d love to get a birdie here as well. And he may well do that. That’s well controlled by John Perry. Yeah, just popping it down there to the ridge. Over the ridge now. This is very tidy work. That is beautifully done. Looking to lean on an A type. I mean, it’s a great angle to go for it if it has legs. Oh, it does. Great golf shot. That’s one of the best swings so far this week. It’s pretty superb given it’s uphill. I just wonder if he’s looking to use the back stop beyond this pin trying to get it to roll back. Oh, what a shot. Oh, that is just magnificent now. Aora on the bark. Chippings under the trees. He’s got to strike it perfectly and does. That’s a great recovery. He was lucky with that shot. This is going to gather closer. Wow. That’s a splendid golf shot. really is Jordan Smith just smoothing one in trying to take spin off it. Pitch it all the way to the flag without too much fizz. I would say he’s done that brilliantly. Yeah, the quality of the chip shot deserve the birdie. He has gone eagle birdie par birdie. In you go. In you go. Here you go once again. All the way to the hole with spin. Greens are soft enough to do that on the ups slope. Lie was good enough. As we go to Marco Pen up at eight. Again, just got to be aware of the spin with that flag just over the ridge. Not too much. Oh, magnificent golf shot. Easy to chip this back down the ridge here if he’s not careful. Easy to chip it back down the ridge all the way to the front of the green. Well, after a moment of brilliance at the previous hole, we’re seeing Iora struggle here. This is three putt zone. Oh, no, it’s not. Oh, no, it’s not. Well, you might start believing now that it’s your week. Totally orthodox grip and padding method. He read it exactly the same as Zinci and it was correct. Wow. Four birdies and five holes. Trying to draw it into his front left flag. Hyora here. Not quite liking this one. I don’t know why not. Certainly likes it now. Caught the ridge. Yeah, what a great little run that is. 78 and nine, two birdies in three holes and the outstanding parade at the eighth and Aora moves to six under within two of the lead to Grant Forest back at eight. He’s just got his first bird of the day. Don’t forget of the par five seventh. Hello. Hello. The size of the flies. Yeah, hello beauty at 211. Henge 207 yds today this par three about 206 uphill so he can be more aggressive than Iara could be just about enough second birdie of the round peng seven No, Joel Gerbach. I thought was Dan Howing for a minute. That’s the sort of the way he normally settles into the ball, but here is uh Joel at number six. Yeah, that’s a cracking shot, isn’t it, by Gerbach? Beauty. Yeah. Eagle and three birdies so far. Looking looking to start reignite the run. Oh, this might be a hit, too. Nice. And this is tough as well for Larry. He’s got about 3, four yards to work with. That lip is about 12 ft tall. That is sensational. Yeah, that is just uh world class. And the contours will naturally bring it back. Although it’s soft, it should stick. That’s a good shot. Yeah, good iron shot at the last. Much better pitch there. Back on the birdie trail at 12. That’s more like it. Back to two under. Back to Shane. Crucial birdie there for Larry. Gets in now. One off the cut line. He’s well up there in the greens and regulation stats, isn’t he? Extremely good iron player. I think he intended to use the contours. I’m not sure he intended to run it off the fringe, but who cares? Yeah, I sat next to his Caddyy Tunis on the way over from London and he was saying that, you know, he doesn’t look like keeping his card in the States, but there’s a good chance he could get into those, you know, those those top 10 spots to regain his card. Keep a show of the lead. That’s a very good day’s work from Joel Gerbat 65. quite unlucky from this angle. Had to keep it somewhat low because of the tree in front of him from 92 yards. Ultimate control. [Applause] Just when he wanted it to get hot, the putter has gone stone cold on him. Perfect drive. Good pitch to here. Can he finish it off with a birdie? Line just on left edge. Perfect. Beautifully played hole by Angelor and he gets even closer to the leaders. Back into the sun at 17. Gorgeous golden light. And what a goal shot. I think he learned from his two playing partners how firm that green is. 111 yards, but certainly playing less than that yardage. Yeah, they’re just playing front edge yardage and then it will release something like that. As good as it gets, that is a gimme of the other three players at eight under. Just needed a fraction more in terms of pace, didn’t it? Only an ounce part at the last though. And that’s a really good day for Jeff Winter. Just the 40 yards pens to go. We’ve been checking out where he wants to leave his p where he’s going to land it. Load little spinner. Been an absolute joy to watch Marco Pen play golf today. The line was on left edge. There’s a beautiful stroke again from Marco Penge. And of all the players out there today, he is the one that really does deserve to lead. Just trying to back foot this one and get it releasing up the slope. Just trap that one exactly as he saw it. He also kept the face up. Gosh, rattles it in and around the hole. And it is a closing birdie for John Ram. And the threetime Spanish Open champion finishes in style. Four underpar heading into the weekend. Five to make up. Marco 67 to go with yesterday’s 66. Talk us about your day out there today. Um yeah, very patient day. Um nice to have a bogey free round in there. Um yeah, I mean I mean I played pretty solid. uh you know still a couple of bits there that I could improve on but all in all was uh steady round of golf. You mentioned there were patience there. What is the key to being patient around this course? I think you know I think if you’re not patient it’s just going to catch you out. It’s so tricky and bit little bit fiddly and you know if you’re not fully focused or concentrating over every shot you’re going to you’re going to make bogeies. So you know I weren’t really focusing on my score out there. It was mainly just to stay stay as patient as I could and see what the round gives me and you know I finished with two birdies there. So I think that’s uh you know when you are patient you do get rewarded so I did get that today. The plan going into tomorrow is going to be more of the same for you. Yeah, more of the same. Um all you know my game feels pretty good. um doesn’t feel amazing, but I feel like I’m managing my game really well and uh you know, I had a good range session after my round yesterday. So, today was slightly better, but it’s still probably only about a seven out of 10, but it’s hopefully I can play some better golf over the weekend. Leading with only a seven out of 10 game. Everyone else should watch out, Marco. Well played today. Thank you. Cheers. To watch another DP World Tour video, click here. And to subscribe, click here.
