Plenty of golf to discuss, as this episode goes to air Nick, Mark and Dan are on the Gold Coast at Links Golf and Wellbeing playing our first Talk Birdie Tournament with 80 or so wolfpackers.

We were particularly excited with Wade Ormsby’s performance at the weekend…what a win in Jakarta! But in Australia, it is club championship season, which is always exciting, and we discuss what it means to clubs and how they structure it.

Nick played at the weekend and had a great time, and we hear a few stories from club championships in the past – including one story of Mark’s that he describes as ‘horrendous’. Nick tells us of his club song, and whilst he doesn’t sing it for us, he does tell us the lyrics. Mark is disappointed that his club does not have a song and decides to rectify it during the break using the Suno app – which creates songs to your specifications. Nick tells us of one particular player whom he could never beat in his club championship – and we hear a great story about Steve and Rob Elkington which has to be heard to be believed!

Great win by Bobby McIntyre in Scotland, a hugely popular player, and a wonderful win. He is also a deserving winner of our BMW Touch of Class this week through how he spoke following the win.

After the turn, we hear Marks song. Is it any good? Well put it this way, you might want to fast forward through the 30-seconds we gave it. The whole thing was 3-minutes long, we lasted 30-seconds and that was pushing it. We do however play a song from a young Irish singer who wrote a tribute to the European Ryder Cup team, it is excellent.

Following Bobby Mac’s great win, Nick lists his Top 5 favourite Scottish golfers. Does a certain player get a mention, would Nick risk incurring Mark’s wrath?

Feedback today – some comments on James Sutherlands appearance last week, and a suggestion for the greatest putt of all time from a wolfpacker in the UK. Does it get received well? Some more comments on the Ryder Cup, and we discuss Stewart Cink’s comments about the interview process for the captaincy of the US Ryder Cup team.

Ping globals has plenty of results from around the world, Nick O’Hern takes us through them all. And a ripping masterclass for watchMynumbers from Mark today on pre-setting your hips, particularly as you get older. He’s seen a video, seen Matt Gogel doing it, and tried it….and loves it.

Now from Tidalist and Fjoy headquarters, it’s time for Birdie City. Good day everybody. Welcome to the program. 33° on the Gold Coast, Nicholas. Get the shorts out. Get the guns out. We’re looking forward to getting uh to Lynx Golf and Wellbeing at Hope Island. We’re actually playing today. So, um I’m sure we’re having fun. And I reckon I’m probably about I’m probably about five under uh as we speak after about 12 holes probably. Yeah. With a double and and two bogeies. Yeah. Made so much happening in the world of golf. It never stops. It never ever stops. Um and a big congratulations to one of our very first guests um on Talk Birdie to me, Wade Ormsby. Yes. Had another win the Asian tour. You watched the last couple of holes? I did. Yeah. That’s his fifth win on the Asian tour, by the way. Very impressive. But, uh, I know he’s won in Hong Kong, but this was in Jakarta, the International Series, one of those big It’s a big event over there. It’s like 2 million US, um, prize money in total. But, I was watching him and Scott Vincent coming down the last couple of holes. And what an 18th hole they had there in Jakarta because it was straight back into the teeth of the wind. 455 yards. You got to hit over water to begin with, and if you go right, you’re in the water. If you go left, you’re no good. And then you’ve got to hit to a green which is protected by water. Wayne Orsby unbelievably hold an 8ft par putt on the 72nd hole just to force a playoff. And then on first playoff hole hit two fantastic shots middle of the green. I think he’s coached by Grant Field he said. Yeah. And it’s his first win I think since his his dad Peter passed a couple of years ago. So cheers to Wade. It was a fantastic win. Good stuff. Really really good. Now that’s one kind of championship that you know we we’re we’re interested in. But right now in Australia, it is club championship season. So I played at your track uh on Sunday. You played Kingston Heath? Kingston Heath on Sunday. And I heard all about the day before because we played with uh well Michael Pena. You played with Michael was out playing again along with Ray Mack cuz he’s good buddies with Ray. And then another guy Jeppi Bommo. Yeah, Jeppi is a Jeppe was a ripper. Now he said he had some issues in the club champs on the Saturday. Plays off a eight handicap. I won’t say what he shot, but I don’t think he’ll be in the ring. What did he shoot? A lot. Did he? He did. He said he was sword fighting on the green. Did he break 90? Uh, I don’t think so. So, anyway. Well, that’s what happens. That’s what happens in club championships though. I know. People lose their mind. I remember. Well, I was playing tough cuz the course is firm, fast. Sunday when we played it was blowing 50 km an hour. day. And the the good thing about the par fives at Kingston Heath is they all go in the same direction. Yeah. And we had the wind up our clacker on those holes. Did you get home in two on any of them? I hit seven iron. Thank you very much. into uh 14. Oh my god. From 220 m. That’s the longest one. Seven iron from the member is the longest. 220 m. Next hole 15 up the hill. The short par three. Yeah. Played 140 m. Yeah. Four iron. So that goes to show you how strong the wind was. So the wind was crazy. It was in great condition though. But um some really good scores. Buddy of mine, Harry Richie, who’s coming second, I believe. Shout out to Harry. Well done. Yeah. He’s up at the cathedral as well. He’s a cathedral member. Yes. Along with his um dad and and brother and mom who remembers up there. Um I remember like we’re talking about club championships. I mean I’ve got that many stories about club championships. It’s not funny. Um, I remember it was such a big deal to me. Might have been my first year. I’m not sure I broke a 100. Oh, really? Like it I had one of those days, you know. I I joined Huntingdale Golf Club when I was 13 or 14 years old and I might have shot 95. I don’t know. I was, you know, I was playing 17 or something. But I It is It is hilarious sometimes when you look back at what scores actually make the match play. Yes. at at Huntingale in the 80s, you just had to break 80 twice around Hunting Dale. Well, they set the course up like a like it’s a tour event. That’s right. That’s exactly right. Well, that’s what happens. You know, the mowers come out early and they get rolled and it’s a different it’s a different golf course. The pins are tucked and you know, uh there’s about 15 Sunday positions on all the you know, the greens keepers go nuts. But it is a wonderful learning curve for so many people. And not just for the top flight either, you know, to have an Agrade, a B-grade, and a C-grade in those club championships. I remember my cousin Nick my he won the B-grade club championship. He was a tennis player and a footballer. Um, but he won the B-grade club championships and mate it was a big deal. Oh yeah. You know, there were nerves. Um, family came out to watch. It was huge. A huge occasion, you know. So, everyone loves the club champs. Yeah. Talk about family. My brother defeated me in the final of the club champs at Mount Lley many years ago. Joking. No, he got me. And then I think the following year, I beat Chris Gray. Remember Chris who Lucas Parsons was talking about the other day, I think, on on our pod. So, I think I beat him the following year. So, I did win the club champs at Mount Lley, but uh yeah, I never never could beat my brother in those things. So, shout out Troy. You’ve you’ve always got me there. Well, how about this for a club? I mean, if you got a club championship story, um, send them in, but you won’t beat this one. All right. You You’ll never beat it. So, when I was at Waga Waga, um, of course. Oh, yeah. Just recently, Alington’s uh, came for So, Steve and his brother, Rob. Rob, thank you. Rob used to be a Titus, by the way. Rob used to be the guy Oh, yeah. giving out all the Titus golf balls on tour. So, he was a great man, Rob. Um anyway, Rob is leading the Waga Waga Club Championships by one shot over his younger brother Steve. Wow. Right on the 72nd hole. Okay. The last hole of course is a par three Waga Waga. Steve Elkington holding one. Oh to beat his brother by one shot. If you’re going to go down, if you if you can beat that club championship story, just get in touch with our socials. Imagine that. You’ve got your little brother. You and you know your little brother’s a gun. You got him on the 72nd hole. You know, you’ve knocked it on the green. All you had to do was knock it on the green and it’s over. There’s no way he’s making birdie. He holes in one on the 72nd hole to beat his older brother. That could be the greatest walk-off win in the club champs ever, I would imagine. That is crazy. Um, I’ve got a a horrendous story from my club championship. All right, so my this this is this still haunts me today. So, at Huntingdale Golf Club, um, I progressed and I got to the final against a guy called Tim Smith. And, um, by the way, all club champs are match play, right? Most of them are. Most not anymore. No, I think it’s still club. I assume they are. Well, actually, just on Kingston Heath, it is match play. One thing that was surprised me. Why don’t they like cuz they they played the first round of Kingston Heath Saturday and then it’s the following Saturday, the second round. Why don’t they just do it over the weekend? I don’t know. Don’t know cuz that doesn’t make any sense. Always done it. So, okay. Just a question. It’s just the way they they’ve always done it. I think that happen. I mean, be nice to just get it all over. I would have thought so. And then match play the following weekend. Serious about winning it. Weekend clear. Yeah, you can do it in two weekends that way. Easy. Yeah, cuz you have the stroke play Saturday, Sunday, and then the following weekend you have the morning, but it will be the quarterfinal 4 36 whole final. Yeah, exactly. It’s done. Two weekends solving problems. Solving more problems than we know. Anyway, so I have progressed to the point where I’ve made the final of the Huntingdale Club Championship when I was 16 years old. Wow. And uh it quickly became apparent, everyone was telling me that I was going to be, if I won it, the youngest ever club champion at Huntingdale Golf Club. So I was like, “Wow, this is, you know, this is huge.” Anyway, with five holes to play, Nick, I’m four up in the 36 hole final. Don’t laugh. You You’re hurting me already. Well, I know obviously know what’s coming because you said it haunts you. What the club did, they used to have the presentation on the hole where it finished. So, what did they do? They brought it out. They drove the championship cup out. Oh, no. So, I’m looking at this trophy going, “Wow, this is going to be huge. You know, I’m going to be the youngest ever club champion in Hunting Dale. I’m going to be presented on the 14th.” Who are you playing? Tim Smith, his name was. I’ll never forget his name as long as I live. Anyway, so I belt one down 14. It’s the par five, right? Long par five. Snakes snakes around Norman all the way out to the right over the trap and the only Yeah. I mean, he’s got to lay up. I look over and he’s got driver off the deck and he’s going to try and hit it over the corner. Wow. So, it’s over, right? It’s over. Just give me the give me the trophy now. Oh, it’s a stupid shot. It’s a wood. It’s not, you know, it’s a wooden per simmon club, but he’s trying to hit it over. There used to be these two popular trees, too. You had to kind of kick a goal with the driver. Well, a sweeter driver off the deck has never been hit before. Wow. And it just it was a goal right right through the poppplers. Perfect. That’s the time that I actually my pants right there. Anyway, I lost that hole. Yeah, my layup didn’t go any good. Then you got the par three. I ended up somehow having the 18th like he won the next four holes in a row. I h haveved 18 and on the first hole I was so shaken. So shaken I knocked it to the frog here on the front four putted from just the green to lose it. just to hand Tim the club championship in 1985. Wow. Oh gosh. The the story doesn’t end there. That’s horrible, right? The story doesn’t end. Did he just make birdies or did you just make bogeies? I was bitone. Bit of everything. I was just gone. I was gone. Anyway, my life progresses and I never saw him again. Right. That was it. That was his crowning glory in golf. He he never played the game again, right? Never played the game again. So, I’m playing at uh the 1993 Australian Masters and I am flushing it. I’m playing with I haven’t made a bogey, right? I’m playing with Brad Hughes. It goes on the win the thing. Think I know where this is going. Was this one with the yellow? Yeah, the yellow jacket. You win the yellow jacket. Big event. The third last group. The shark is playing behind me. Yeah. The nerves are starting to jangle because it’s getting to the serious bit, you know, where you every mistake you make in the last six holes cost you 10,000. Yeah. Anyway, so I’ve just missed a sixfooter on 12 for birdie. I should have knocked it in. As I walk through the 13th T, I see one person. Tim Bloody Smith. I hadn’t seen him. I hadn’t seen him for seven years. At least it wasn’t on the 14th. And the last time the last time I saw him, I choked like a pig. Anyway, I partied and finished. I partied and finished fifth. But just the funny little things, the things that trig you. Yeah. In golf, that was that was one of them. I certainly did. You know what I’m wishing now? I’m I’m so wishing Tim was coming to the 1230 golf day. Well, I haven’t seen him since I haven’t seen him since the uh the 13th T cuz you and me 5003. That’s that’s exactly the voicemail sound go off a second ago. Yeah, I did. Should we check it? Yeah, go on. You have one new voicemail. New message. Hey guys, Shooter here. Just wondering your thoughts on the best pennant teams back in the day. I remember Woodlands had a super team of players like Lamb, Allen, Ferrron. Uh then you had uh great ones like Victoria where it had Vering, McCullum, Oggovy, Le Wade. Um you know then you had your Yari Yaras etc. Just thoughts on your thoughts of great pennet teams back in the day uh or even your fond memories of when you used to play and how much fun it was. All right, lad. Cheers. All right. Thank you, Shooter. Yeah, McGavin. Yeah, I’m assuming. Yeah. Well, look, I know Pennant Melbourne used to be hu I mean I remember one year Lucas Parson’s from New South Wales came down for an entire season to play pennant on the sand belt. Such it was it was so big. Um that team at Woodlands he said Allan that was Stevie Allen my cousin uh AL um look there were some unbelievable names when you look back over in WA where I grew up it was every Sunday was an I mean it was an eventuge like it was huge. We would um prepare like we were preparing for the final round of a major. Yeah. Um the team would get together, you know, it was like the President’s Cup or the Ryder Cup and and then afterwards as well, we would we would have a full-on dinner. Yeah. You’re getting into the jacket and ties. Out of interest, did you guys have a have a club song? We we used to sing a club song. Song can you remember it? It’s something like Sing it for me. Oh, and there was a guy there was a guy we did. We didn’t. His name was Bill Reed and he and he and he wrote this song. Yeah. He was a member at Mount Lolly. He’s still there and it was like, “We are the Golden Blues. We are Mount Lolly through and through. We’re the team that’s out there to win. We’re the only team we think should win. We know they like us because we play well.” No, because they say so when we play well. We are the mighty Golden Blues. All that sort of stuff. And we would sing it in front of everyone after each at at the dinner. It was the most bizarre thing. And looking back, I thought, “We actually did that? That’s incredible.” But at the time it was like you felt so proud. It’s like you you win a football match and they come off and they they sing the club song and and it was like that. It was it was a massive deal. But we would have on our team we had Wayne Smith. Um Chris Gray obviously my brother was on there. Every now and then I might sneak into the lineup but um you know you’d play against other teams cuz So hang on. Wayne Smith when he was a pro or no when he was when he was an amy mitt was another guy. Um other teams had Brad King and Craig Perry Steven. I mean, it was all all really good players. Greg Charmer’s all them. Yeah. Okay. I love the song. Oh, yeah. It was I think we might have been the only team that had a song. I don’t know. But Bill was a He’s a legend of the golf club. He was fantastic. I might get to work and write the Kingston Heath song, pennet coming up. Absolutely. Maybe I can get Grock up now. Now, now we’ve got to get We haven’t done a song for a long time. We haven’t done a song. Maybe get Timmy Trumpet to do something for Well, he can he can do the little first bit of stuff. Maybe maybe in the break I’ll get song. Yeah. I I’ll get a song for Kingston Heath. Yeah. For our pennet team. Absolutely. Hey, by the way, uh this week uh we’re back on the Aussie schedule here in Australia. Got the WAPJ in Calguli. Fun. And then next week is the Mount W at Mount Lley. And guess you see who’s playing? Mark Lee. Mark Lee. How good is that? He’s going to They got some really strong fields. I think you might even have the schedule there down. You KO KO put the slide out for the next three weeks. Brilliant. So we got WPGA, WA Open, and then I think it’s WebEx players series in South Australia, I believe. So yeah. Okay. No, that’s very The fields are great. Also at the W Open is Kirsten Rley is going to play. Kirsten Rley is going to She’s a Mount Ly member. That’s a good It’s a very good experiment to see that. I really enjoy it. I I think she’ll do really well. So Well, she makes the cut. That’s a win. So, the WAPGA, um, Ryan Peak, the New Zealand Open champ who just played in the British Open as well this year. Andrew Martin, he’s the Eagle man. Uh, Jordan D, Curtis Luck. I love seeing Curtis back here playing. Yeah, Jordan Dy, I think he lost in the playoffs to Jack Buchanan last year there. So, so it would be good to see them back. And Matty Griffin’s there as well. So, anytime Matty’s playing that, that’s fantastic. Good on you, Matty. Thanks for supporting uh the WAP PGA. And like we said, Mark Leeman playing in the WA Open. Ryan Peak again, Daniel Gale, Curtis Luck, Kirsten Rug Ruggley like you said, and Anthony Quail. I love Anthony. He’s a he’s a very good man. And thank you, Anthony, for doing that. And he’ll be back at the South Australian tournament as well. Anthony Quail, Cory Lamb, Lachlan Barker, Katherine Norris. Yeah, that’s Jordan’s part as well. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that’d be great. So, that’s great. Well, that’s the WebEx players, so it’s the men and women. Yeah. Yeah. So, so terrific that that’s out and about and we got some of our best players coming back and supporting uh our PGA tour down here in Australia. So, that’s that’s really good stuff. Um, did you see the shark had an interview with Australian Golf Digest? I did. I didn’t read the details of it though. I heard he wasn’t very happy. Is that right? I’ll give you the gist. It was good. It was a good article and it’s a great get I think Greg does some exercise stuff for Golf Australia. It’s very He’s Yeah, he’s pumped. Guns out. Oh, mate. He’s He’s in shape. The shark. It’s incredible. And I’ve actually enjoyed watching some of the stuff he does in his home gym. Okay. Especially he he stands on like, you know, there’s a platform and there’s a half a ball underneath. You got the balance board. The Bosi ball. He’s doing this one where he’s throwing a medicine ball, standing on top of that into a mini Yeah. And it comes back and catches it. Stabilizing the core. Mate, I want to I want to try that. I used to do all that stuff. I should get back into it. Yeah, I should get back into it. Well, you should. You should. Um, so um I enjoy I enjoy them. So, look, they they’ve probably got a good line to him, but um I think the most uh the thing I took out of it more than anything else was that he was hurt by the criticism, right? You know, he was standing up for the players and a tour that he was in charge of and paid handsomely to do so. Um but the vitriol of a lot of people back at him in particular, there’s a lot of history. Yeah. Yeah, that goes back to when he was trying to do the world tour, wasn’t he? Back in the day with the P against the P well, not against the PGA tour, but he he wanted to start it with some of the players and I think Jack and Annie and all that sort of said, “No, no, no, no. Don’t don’t go down that route.” I reckon you’re spot on. I reckon a lot of people remember um that he tried to get a world tour going first. That was knocked on the head. Y by the PGA tour and then they started their own not long after. Funny that. Um, and I think a lot of people probably thought Greg was really um, angry about that still. I still had a, you know, an axe to grind. Um, and that that’s, you know, all these things weren’t exactly said in his replies, but I felt like they pretty much dancing around. Yeah. Read between the lines. They they dancing around it. But it was interesting to to hear that. He makes the point, you know, if he’s wrong, he’ll quite often say that he’s wrong. Um, but it was a good read. Mhm. It it was a good read and and you know to see someone like Greg um talk about his feelings. I mean he didn’t do it too often, did he? No. He was so cavalier and so strong. Um such an alpha male uh back in the day. Yeah. Uh you know to hear him talking about his feelings makes you think a little bit I guess. I’m not you know I’m not defending him or anything like that but that’s what I took out of it. Yeah. He’s opening up and being showing a bit of vulnerability. That’s that’s a that’s always never a bad thing. Never a bad thing. I did I did see he was cing for his son in the midter not long ago. Did you see that? No. Yeah. Greg Jun, right? Greg Junior. Yeah. Greg Junior who’s going to be what? A kite surfer and then a surfer and then a golfer and then something else a businessman. And then he was part of Liv doing a role and in the end he ended up you know playing the midameter and Greg was air cing for him. So like yeah he’s still a dad you know he’s a dad. He’s got feelings. Exactly. And he was so many people’s hero. Yeah. Back in the day. Hey, boys. Now, tell tell me about this photo behind us for people watching on YouTube. Oh, Bobby Mack. Bobby Mack. Yeah. One of the iconic photos, one of the most iconic photos in golf really where he’s standing on the Swen Bridge and he doesn’t have the clar jug, but he has the Dunhill links trophy in front of him. So, the location’s quite a performance. some of the greatest photos, you know, especially when Jack and Jack was playing for the last time or Arnold was playing for the last time the Open, they always got their picture right there. Um, G, that round three must have been a rotten nose. Was it round three or round one? Which one did they cancel? Round one was okay. Round two, it was blowing and it was raining, coming in sideways, and they actually suspended play for a while and then they got it back out and finished round two on the Saturday morning, but then the wind picked up so much that they just couldn’t play round three. So they suspended it and then it right and then it became a 54hole event which as it turned out worked well because they play 18 at the three courses of Carni Kings Barn and the old course at St. Andrew. So it had a weird feel to the finish because it wasn’t pros only coming up the 18th. Yeah. Um at the old course. So people were finishing obviously separately all over the golf course. The fortunate thing for the tournament was I guess that Bobby McIntyre and Cheryl Hatton who finished first and second were playing together and they were playing at St. Andrews. So it worked out pretty well in that sense. But he he played unbelievably three rounds of 66 in those conditions. It’s incredible. Yeah. Incredible. Yeah. Um there there’s a famous story about Steve Ban uh and what he ban was doing is he was helping an amateur try and win the Pebble Beach Pro Nicholas. And that might have been Carrie Packer. That was Carrie Packer and Steven Ban, you know, really helped him. And I think Greg Norman and Steve and and Kerry Packer won. They won. Wow. They won the beach pro. Okay. And and I believe that you might have had a Well, there was only you should say that because there was a Cathedral member playing in the Dunhill with with Cam Smith, which was David Fox. And and he asked me a while ago. He said, “Oh, um, I’m playing with Cam in the Dunhill. is there any chance you might be able to, you know, look at my game? So, I played a few rounds of golf with him just sort of get him get him sharp and then he ended up holding a putt on one of the days. It might have been the first day at Carnusti and you should have seen this celebration, but I’ll see if I can find the video, Dan, and I’ll and I’ll get it to you because he was walking it in. He was pointing at the camera. It was hilarious. They had I by all reports, I heard he had a fantastic time. And by the way, um I was doing my little radio spot on 30 on Mondays with Tony Mlair and before I come on, I hear the new intro, the Cathedral Invitational sponsoring my spot. Absolutely. Now, I promised the 3W listeners that I would have all the people who are playing this year. So, you’re going to have to help me get the who’s playing. I’m playing. So, there you go. You’re Nick’s playing. That’s true. Scott Scotty’s playing. Scotty’s playing. Leash is playing. I’m not sure about Cam. I don’t know yet. Um who else? Cassie Porter. Cassie Porter is playing. She’s playing as well. Fantastic. Yeah. So, there is a list. I I’ll have to have a look and and find it and and look, it’s a beautiful drive and once you get there, just walking around the fairways, no ropes and anything like that. Yeah. So, Tuesday, Wednesday is the format. Uh the Wednesday, it’s open to the public, so there are tickets available. You just go to the Cathedral Invitational on all the socials and all that and uh you can purchase tickets and get out there. So, uh it’ll be brilliant. You can walk right next to Adam Scott and all those top players and see how it’s really done. Nick, I’ve got that video of David Fox. Oh, you did? Okay, we’ll have a look at that. We’ll have a look at that now. Beautiful. This is Cam Smith’s amateur partner, David Fox. It’s been his lifelong dream to play in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Oh, I love that. Love that memories. Did you say that? Yeah, we got it. We got it. David looks like he’s old man, doesn’t he? Looks like Lindsay. You you you got me there cuz I don’t actually know what Lindsay looks like. So exactly like Lindsay. How’s the celebration to the camera? Oh, that that is Foxy all over right there. So it’s my turn for a touch of class this week for BMW. Driving a BMW is like hitting the perfect shot. Well, that is pure magic. Well, uh thanks to BMW. Uh just what Bobby McIntyre said after winning you know just quote this it’s a great victory is quite often topped off the cherry on top is what is said afterwards this was beautiful and we’re talking about cherry on top stuff here look to win anywhere in the world is special but for a Scotsman I won the Scottish Open to win the Dunhill at the homer golf there’s no other place you want to win golf tournaments and the only one that potentially would top This would be the open championship at St. Andrews which we all know happens every five or so years. Uh this is a special special win and for me as a Scotsman it just elevates that. So just the way he handled himself um such a class he was a he’s a he’s a classy human being and to do it the week after the emotion of a rider cup to actually win a tournament I just thought was brilliant. I read came second here by the way. So, two Right Cup players first and I think he won he’s won two or three Dunh Hills Tur but I I read some of the comments he said afterwards. He said wasn’t a great week preparation wise because obviously what happened with the Ryder Cup. He says I’m not going to lie, I ate crap all week. He was eating fish and chips and fried food. He said on Wednesday I played 12 holes and that was it. That was the preparation. So, uh turns out sometimes you don’t need to prepare for a golf tournament. So, obviously, you know, he was very relaxed. So, good luck to you. Well, Okie Doug, it’s your turn for the top five this week. It is. Oh, yes it is. You don’t know. I have no idea what it is yet. I’ll figure it out in the break. You better sort yourself out. And you’ve got to create a song in the tune. Oh, that’s right. Yeah. For Kingston He’ll get that done as well. Okay. [Music] From Titleist and Fjoy headquarters, this is Talk Birdie City. We’re here for BMW luxury and comfort for the 19th hole. Ping will help you play your best. The golf clearance outlet beat everyone’s prices and better is the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia. Now, the titleist, the number one ball in golf, and Foot Choy, the number one shoe and glove in golf, is Nico and Mark Allen. Okay, Nicholas, just before we get to your top five that has been masterfully crafted, quickly scribbled in that fiveminute break. Um, Sunno. Now, Sunno’s I used to plug stuff in there and we’d get a nice little song every once in a while. So, there was some pretty good ones, too. Yeah, I know. This I I asked maybe where Ping Global result. This is what I plugged in. I said, “Could you plug in uh could I get a short diddy for a golf course called Kingston Heath Sung in Celebration? It’s located on the Melbourne Sand Belt.” So, I’ve plugged that in and it’s one of the top 20 and it’s one of the top 20 golf courses in the world. Okay. All right. So, that’s I’ve plugged that in and this is what Sunno has turned out. Heath. [Music] That’s not good talk already. We love Kingston Heath, the best golf club in the whole wide world. This is this We love Give it one more chance. Best golf club in the world. Oh my god. Members are like that. Terrible. To all the Kings members, I’d like to formally apologize for what Sunno has put out. Hey, you know, speaking of songs though, did you see the video that uh that young girl on the BBC singing about the Ryder Cup win? Yes. No, I’ve only heard about it. Rory M. You got to play it. This is brilliant. Better than Suno. We’re never going to stop with Luke Donald, our captain. We’ll win the Rider Cup. Sevie got a mention. Lori is our boy. But no one further than Rory. Nice. Al voice alitheror [Music] [Music] [Music] there. Nice. Good stuff. How good was that? How good was that? Beautiful. That’s fantastic. Top five. The top five for better. The fastest and easiest bing app in Australia. Top five. Okay, the the top five now for better when the great bet they bit with better because they are ahead of the game. Okay, top five this week. Quickly scribbled it and it’s topical obviously. My top five Scottish players, my favorite Scottish players of all time. Your favorite Scott. So, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best, but it’s my favorites that I’ve played with. Now, this will tell me a lot about you. Oh, there’s there there’s a risky one here. This will tell me an awful lot about the sort of person you are. This I’m interested. This could hurt, Mark. I’m just prewarming you. Do you remember the name Tim Smith? Yeah. Well, this one could hurt even more. God, I wish Tim Smith was Irish right now. No, Scottish. Scottish. Yeah, that’s right. Yeah. Uh, I can’t look, I mean, you you’ve got to include some like old Tom Morris, young Tom Morris, but I never knew him, so I can’t really talk about them too much. So, um, so they’re not in this list. So, call it a top six if you want, as per usual. Number five, I did play with this man. One of the most, um, nicest gentleman you would ever meet, won the Masters, won the Open, Sandy L. Sandy L. Sandy Lyle used to wear a kilt around too, I think, to a couple of the dinners and things like that. He came down to Huntingdale playing in the Australian Masters years ago and he hit like the 14th hole at Hunting Dale which is about to be the 17th hole in the new redo the par five. The par five. Yeah. The one. It’s going to be 17. And then you come down the old practice fairway and that’s 18. Anyway, um it was always the only Berkeley who could get there was Greg Norman and he did two drivers off the one driver off the tea and a driver off the deck. Sandy Lyle hit one ping one iron. Mhm. Ping one iron. you know, the old one, the really old, the one that first came out, he knocked it on with two irons. He hit that one iron so far. It went so far, Nick. And the other thing about his irons was he hit his irions so high. And they always said to him, “Hang on, you’re from Scotland. Why don’t you hit the ball low?” And he said, “Well, the wind doesn’t touch my ball, so I just hit it high.” That’s how good he flushed it. The wind did not touch his ball. It was incredible. He was a flusher. So, he’s my number five. Number four, uh, we’re going to go with Bobby Mack, obviously, uh, you know, Ryder Cup player, just won the Dunnh Hill. Number three, Colin Montgomery Monty. He was one of my favorite players to watch on the when I played on the European tour. He was fantastic to watch on tour. Seven time winner of the Order of Merit. You know, he’d be out on the course. What? Hey, Alppy. Yes, I know. Stroppy floppy. But he was an absolute flusher. At least you didn’t have him at number one. No, I was thinking about it. I was thinking about it. Now, the next two just two of the most incredible guys. Um, the voices as well. This guy, my number two, used to do the best. James Bond impression as in Shan Connory impression who? Andrew Colart. Oh, nice. He had an amazing voice. He’s doing the commentary now on the on the DP World Tour, but hell of a player by the way. He used to came Did he win the Australian PGA? Australian PGA at New South Wales Golf. La Peruse. Yeah, that’s right. Yeah, I played with him a couple of times. Although I played with him once and once in a practice round. So really just once in the Ryder Cup was famous for not playing the first four sessions and had to play in the last session. Was it against Tiger? Might have been against Tiger and I think he uh Yeah, he lost not surprisingly. Only played one session that was at Brookline. Tough on a young fell tough not to play in the first two days and then get Tiger. I know. Yeah, very tough. Uh, and my number one, again, one of the nicest guys, his dad, Bob, funnily enough, was just just a legend over there on the European tour. But number one is Sam Torrance. Uh, what a voice. How’s the commentary? I’m sure a few whisies and maybe cigars have got into that voice and good luck to him. But an incredible human being, an amazing golfer and uh won the won the writer cup at the ble as the captain. So, you know, he’s my number one. I copied Sam Torrance, not his golf swing. Sam used to put a pencil behind his ear. He did. Yeah. So, in my non- hatwearing days, I also had a pencil behind my ear. There you go. How ridiculous. No, very good. Talk birdie feedback thanks to Southern Golf Club. Okay, we had a lot of feedback over the last uh week uh or so as per usual. Now, James Southerntherland, the boss of Golf Australia, was on the pod last week uh and again uh yesterday with a with a mini announcing some of the names for the Australian Open. Uh he was particularly talking about the the new app that they had uh that they they’ve released and there was a lot of feedback on that. Paul has said activation finally worked. Took me about four goes. The new app does bring across the golf IDs of anyone’s handicap you were tracking previously. Well done golf Australia. Yes. Okay. It took me a few goes. I think so many people were trying to get their new handicap. Took me a few goes but eventually we got there and it was very very simple once the code came back. Yeah. Yeah. Uh Jared has said, “Good day, Nick and Marco. Uh I think the new app is a downgrade from the old one. I would be surprised if anyone thinks it’s an improvement.” Well, some people do. I just Jared’s view, but some people do. Obviously Paul does. Reys said, “Is this a version of the world handicapping system or a completely different handicapping calculating system?” No, no. We’ve moved to what the rest of the world does. Yes. We we had a slightly different system based roughly on what the rest of the world were doing. And now we are 100% in line as far as I can tell. Now I had a message from uh Josh from Golf Australia as well about the new app. We did have some issues with some of the emails getting through certain email domains but that is now totally fixed. So if you tried to activate but you haven’t been able to. If you try now you will get your code and it will work great. Which was great. There’s always a bug. Oh yeah, there absolutely is. It’s 100% there’s going to be bugs. And he also said if you have any issues uh uh with anything on the app, reach out to your local club and they’ll get it sorted for you straight away. Well, good luck because I know it’s it’s a very big deal to switch over to something like this. Um, all kinds of things can go wrong and it sounds like not too many have. I don’t know a single piece of technology uh in terms of apps or anything that goes live and there’s not one or two bugs. Correct. It just happens. It’s also nice to go to golf.com.au now and everything’s on there. Golf Australia, PGA, access everything, the whole lot. Alex has a comment and a question for you guys on the Ryder Cup. Like many golf fans, I thought the Beth play Beth Paige black course prepared was far too easy. Now, I know it’s the same for both teams and the Europeans outplayed the Americans, but I would have preferred to see more players having to get the ball up and down from difficult spots. I’m not denying the quality of golf was high, but it’s easy for players to score well when there is very little penalty for hitting drives offline. Your thoughts, please? You you know, yeah, well, definitely played easier. They in hindsight I’m sure Keegan Bradley and the the team that were looking at it are regretting what they did. The softness of the greens was a big problem. Well, that’s what I was going to say. My eye noticed that the European team seem to be able to uh judge their spin with the short clubs so much better. I saw many many more Americans land past the hole and fizz it back off the green. like so many I would say five times as many five to one for the Europeans doing the same thing. So I I think the Europeans just handled the conditions better than the Americans did. Every week you show up to a golf course. You got to adapt to the conditions and whoever does it best. And there was an insider. I don’t know whether you read this. There was an insider at Beth Paige Black. The Europeans were there two weeks early. Yes. They played like eight or nine practice rounds each. The Americans turned up and it was quite rainy before the tournament. Some of them played nine holes one day, nine holes in the other. So, as far as the preparation was concerned and understanding the greens and understanding what happens when a wedge is hit and um getting those subtle little breaks just a little bit better just to give you some advantage. It it does seem like the European team was just more invested in winning. Uh Justin watched your short video where you guys were talking about how the US team had in your view a lack of integrity and how they dealt with the crowd situation. And Justin said this, “Well said, boys. The other unique aspect of professional golf is how close spectators are to the players. It’s one thing to hurl abuse from a grand stand at a baseball game, but it’s very different when you’re 5 meters from the golfer playing your shot. It is a privilege to get that close to pro golfers, and that should be respected.” That’s a really good point. It is. That’s a really really good point. Um, you know, how easy is it to hurl abuse? Yeah. In the grand stands when you’re just a face where no one can tell who you are, but but when you’re like distance away, which quite often happens, you know, on a tea, you can get this close to a pro waiting to hit his shot, you almost touch him. Yeah. Yeah, it’s a really good point. What was his name? Jay. Justin. Good on you, Justin. Yeah, great point. Now, Graeme has made a comment here. Graeme, full disclosure, I’m a life member of the PGA of America. Mellow guys like Larry Nelson, Stuart Sink, Justin Leonard, Fred Couples continually passed over for in-your-face, overly competitive competitive bulldogs such as Cory Paven and Zack Johnson. The PGA of America needs to own that fact. Well, I heard the name Stuart Sink come up recently where he did an interview, I believe, to for to become the captain for this particular one and he thought the interview went great. Yes. Yes. And the next thing you knew, his wife was telling him uh they gave the job to uh to Keegan. And apparently Keegan didn’t do an interview. And anyway, I I I read that as well, and you can if you’re on YouTube now, you can read that for yourself. Dan, could you possibly just maybe read that out for the people in the car driving along? Stuart said this. I thought it went well, but I haven’t received one word since then. Never got a call back that said we’re going in a different direction. All I know is at the end of the conversation it sounded like things look pretty good for you and I never heard another word. Yeah, that’s interesting. If if that’s correct. Yeah. It’s never good when you walk out of a meeting you’re thinking I just nailed it. I crushed it and then you never hear another word. Yeah, that’s true. Yeah. Has that happened to you, Mark? Probably once in a while. Yeah, probably. Probably. Well, I did have the number one show at a radio station there at one stage for and got the sack straight after the year. It’s sort of the same thing. The highest rating show on the station. Wow. Came to our last day. We said our goodbyes. We’ll see you next year. I walked outside and the boss was there and she sacked us. Wow. So, similar. Yeah. Yeah. You’re not the only one who’s been there. Yeah, that’s true. Okay. This one here from Jamie. Good Nick and Mark. I have just got back from my sister’s wedding in Devon in the UK after a 5-hour drive and I enjoyed listening to your podcasts for the very first time. Oh, nice. You have excellent knowledge about the game that is insightful and entertaining to listen to. I think you might have been listening to a different podcast maybe. Okay, they kind of kind of announced a good day. However, he goes on to say this regarding the greatest shot ever hit considering the situation as you say at Madina. Martin K had depart from 15 ft to retain the Ryder Cup to Europe. blew the first putt 7 ft past. He had to calm himself down and knock that putt in coming back. That was an insane amount of pressure as it wouldn’t be just on himself if he missed, but his teammates and his entire continent. I would love to hear your thoughts on that one. Cheers, Jamie. That’s such a great example of situational. Yes. So, not only is the RDER Cup on the line and a RDER Cup on foreign soil on the line, which is really hard to do, and they’re in the middle of a big comeback as well, a huge comeback. You could stop the momentum right there and then, but he’s hit the first part 7 ft pass. More than that, it is a nightmare, a nightmare situation. And then I remember watching that thinking, “Oh, if he misses this, so that I mean, that’s that’s way up. That’s got to be top three without thinking too much. I mean, on the spot. And then you you could almost put Bobby Mack’s putt in there. No, sorry, no, Shane Lowry’s putt the other day. Absolutely. At the RER Cup. And then you go back and you have Paul McInley and all these other putts that you know are to win the RDER Cup. Basically, is a great example of situational. Now, is it the best? It’s just a seven foot. It’s an eight. It’s just an 8 foot pot. It’s not like Rory Mroy is seven iron uh with all immortality in the background. You could call it the greatest putt over water hooking around pine trees. Would you call it the greatest putt of all time? Maybe. Maybe. May situational. Maybe the greatest 8oot putt hit in the history of the game. If you’re going to go down that route, the one putt I remember. Yeah. Tiger Woods, Tory Pines. Oh, to get into the playoff. That could be one of the greatest putts ever ever hit in the game of golf. You knew it was in too. Yeah. Although the Ryder Cup is up there because you got all your teammates and everyone else. So, Y remember he hit a lob wedge out of thick rough from 100 yards. Told him one more one less. I don’t know what it was. Yeah. Go one more to the lobby. Yep. Couple more to wrap up on here. This from Paul uh who watched our interview with Bradley Hughes uh just just recently. Well, the interview was a while ago, but he watched it recently. Brilliant interview. I remember Brad’s low launching missiles. Nick, your respect and Mark, your respect for this humble man was palpable. I think I’ve discovered my one golf coach for perpetuity. Yeah. Well, there you go. Yeah, he was he was a wonderful striker. The golfer and a good bike, too. Everyone like Bradley, he does some good stuff online. Interesting. Very good. Yeah, he comes he comes at golf from a different angle. Um, and as you know and and pretty much everybody, if you’ve got a few golf lessons, golf coaches are different. And one day you’ll find one that just suits you, you know, just fits you like a glove. Um, and if you haven’t had much success with some of the golf coaches, then maybe Bradley’s your guy. Maybe definitely worth a look. Last bit of feedback here. This one is from Carl. Hey Jens, I love the podcast and the vodcast. I prefer watching on YouTube and I’m looking forward to Hope Island today. Hey, I will be the one winning the hole-in-one trip to the Mald Dives. Nice. I watched Greg play around, by the way, at Pacific Golf Club in Brisbane with my dad in the 1970s. Drove it a mile. All the best, Carl. Good on you, Carl. Can’t wait to see you. Well, I wonder if he’s going to get that hole in one. Oh, would that find out? We’d be Have we got a spotter? Yes, we do. Dan has a spotter. No, no, I’m not the spotter. No, no, no, no. You have a spotter, I My mate Flan is the spotter. Oh, the comedian from Queensland. Yeah, Flan is a he’s a mate. He’s a standup guy. is a golf nut. Uh, and he’s going to tell some stories this afternoon as well, too. So, he’s going to warm up the crowd. He’s going to warm up the crowd for you guys. And, uh, and he’s the spotter. All right. Which is, which is great. Uh, that’s the feedback. Now, it’s time for the Ping Globals with your favorite song. Timmy Trumpet hasn’t got back, by the way. No. Has he blocked you? I don’t think he’s blocked me, but he definitely doesn’t know I’m alive. No. Uh, the ping globals for ping because they will help you play your best like they did for you, Nick, for your entire career. They certainly did and and they still are. I’m not quite playing my best at the moment, but I I’ll get my game back in shape. Seven. I’m getting ready for the Cathedral Invitational at the end of the year. You’re driving a seven to the 14th at at Kingston He was blowing a hulie behind me, though. So, two big hits, mate. It was good. Uh the Dunhill was we’ll lead it off there on the DP World Tour. As mentioned, the tournament was uh shortened to 54 holes where Bobby McIntyre had a four-shot win over Tier Hatton. Uh best of the Australasians was Kerry Mount Castle at tied for 32nd. The New Zealander. Kazuma Kabori tied 40th and Matt Jones also tied for 40th. So bit of a tough week for the Aussies there. The Australians Harrison Crow though won the teams event. Yeah. Isn’t that great? With uh a guy called Shan Foley, and it’s not the the teaching pro Shan Foley, it’s the son-in-law of JP McManis, would you believe? So, uh Harrison got a nice little bonus there for winning the team event. So, I I saw 17 live players were playing. It was a lot. It was great. That’s the way they played. It’s really good. Now, Harrison, was he the guy who hit over the uh the house the hotel? Yes. And over the onto the 18th screen? Um uh not not this year obviously Morris’s shop and onto the 18th but he obviously likes uh St. Aners in that area. He’s got good vibes there. He does. On the PGA tour they had the Sanderson Farms tournament where Steven Fisk got his first PGA tour win. He’s a rookie. Birdied the last three holes for a two-shot win over South Africa’s Gareth Higo, the left-hander. Okay. Uh tied for third was Vince Whemus Hoyard. Fresmas, uh, who just obviously played in the Ryder Cup, didn’t get a point unfortunately, but he he was part of the winning team. And Danny Walker, now get this, Danny Walker, first three days set a record for the most amount of uh, feet of putts hold. Oh, really? In three days. What’s the new record? 450 ft in three days. Three days. 150 ft a day. A day. It’s scary. Yeah. And then I think on the last day, on the last day, you might have had about 30 feet or something like that. So, it wasn’t a great final day. So folks, if you don’t know what we’re talking about, um the putt that goes in that’s measured and 150 ft is enormous. Put it this way. It’s almost like holding a 10ft putt on every hole for 18 holes basically. Close to anyway. Close to close to probably three days. Yeah. For three days and it’s impressive. That’s incredible. It is impressive. Uh on the LPGA tour uh we had the Lotty Championships in or Loi in Hawaii where 22-year-old Korean Yumi Wang extends the streak of different winners. Remember that streak they’ve got? No one has won twice. So it’s 26 different winners on the LPGA tour. Now she birdied five of her last six holes. Her birdied the last four holes actually have a one-shot win over Hoju Kim. A very very impressive result there. Right. Yeah. Of the Aussies, we had Gabby Ruffles was the best, tied for 28th. Robin Choy tied for 32nd and Cassie Porter tied for 42nd with the best. On the Asian tour, as we mentioned earlier, Wade Ormsby got the win over Zimbabwe and Scott Vincent on the first playoff hole. Um Aaron Wilton tied for 11th along with Maverick Ancliffe and Travis Smith were the best of the rest of the Aussies playing there. Cornferry tour second last event. So they got one more event for the PGA Tour cards, top 20 cards. Did you see the scoring in this tournament? Yeah, I knew some kid was on the way to getting the new scoring record on the cornfield. There was a 59 earlier in the week by the way, was there? Yeah. By uh what was his name? Davis Chatfield. Davis in the opening round past 71. So, you know, you could have probably lower it down a little bit. Automatically a level. But get this, Davis Chatfield shot a 59. He ended up shooting 20 under for the week. 20 under. That’s nice. He finished tied 15. So, the scoring was low. I knew the old scoring record was 31 under par. Well, now it’s 33 under. 33 under by Belgian Adrien Dealt De Shasar. Wow. Uh who shot 61 61 64 65. Get out of here. It’s just ridiculous. Cut was seven under par. Thank you very much. Seven underut. Seven undercut. Kids, if you’re thinking about turning pro, hit the large bucket. That’s all I can tell you. So, next week is the final event on the Cornferry Tour. The the finals where top 20 get the cards. There are 75 players playing in French Lick, Indiana, which is Larry Bird Country. That’s right. On the Champions Tour, the Furick and Friends tournament in Timuana Country Club in Jacksonville. I played this course in old Donald Ross. Very good golf. Really good. Really good. Tommy two gloves. Monday qualified. Oh, did he? Yeah. So, you know how they there’s no Q school, you know, to get back in. Well, you can still Monday qualify, I guess. Oh, there you go. And next year, maybe. I didn’t know he Monday qualified. I hadn’t seen his name. Yeah. I hadn’t seen him either. to Monday qualifying win is enormous. Shot a final around 66 for a two-shot win over our own Cameron Percy who held the first round lead with a 64 in the opening round. So a great week for Cam now. Cam’s playing really well. That’s his second runner up in three weeks. Um maybe his third top three in four weeks actually. So he’s playing really well. But there were five players on tied third including Brendan Jones as well. So BJ had a good week there. Greg Charmer’s tied 12th and then Stuart Applebee, Steve Or tied 16th for the best of the Australasians. Now, something I missed out on last week was we had the world championship again, the Sang Greens World Championship. Oh, the Sand Green on the Australasian tour. Are we the only country in the world that hasn’t? We have world champion here. You know, it’s the only place where Sam Slater had a one-shot win over Doug Klein. He finished runner up last year, I think, Sam. So, he got the win this time. So, anyway, just a shout out to to Sam for the win. Hit it a million miles. He hits it a ton. Yeah. You ever get to I mean his ball speed’s up around the 190 I’ve heard. So it’s crazy. I had to have a look at him there for a little while. His dad got in contact and have a quick look. No, it’s just you know center at the green sort of stuff for someone like him. Does he hit his four iron as far as your driver? He would his foreiron would fly my driver. Really? I mean we’re talking atomic sort of ball speed with this kid. Wow. He’s a big strong lad too. Although I’ve heard from your master class maybe you get some more distance as well. Hey. Well, the master class is coming up next, and I’m always fiddling around with my golf swing and always trying to work out how to get a little bit extra shoulder turn. I saw something on YouTube ages ago. Mhm. I thought that looks interesting and I left it there until I’ll tell you about it after the break. [Music] [Music] Okay, time for this week’s master class. A little bit old school this week. I’ve done a clip. I’m actually going to show a few clips. Now, like I said, I’m always looking as I’m getting older, 56 years old. Um, my issue, Nick, since once I once you start to become not as flexible, is my shoulders stop and my arms keep going. That’s what I do. That’s what you That’s what so many older people do. Yep. Searching for a little extra power. Now, what that does is that means when you start down, your arms are well and truly behind and then I’m more a bit of a flipper when that happens. Uh, and not only that, I get the double knee bend on the way through. Like the old man’s knee is what I call it. And that’s just your body pausing so everything can catch up. It’s a It’s a nightmare. Anyway, like I said, I saw that clip on YouTube like we all do. If you got an algorithm in golf, you get you get to look at all these crazy things. And what I saw in that YouTube clip was a a presetting of the hips. So they would turn the hips before they started swinging. Right. So pull the right hip back. Yeah. For rightanders. Yeah. So Okay. Turning the hips. I forgot about it until I watched the seniors tour this week on the US where I saw Matt Gole. Now play this uh Dan. So for people watching on YouTube, you’re going to see it and the commentators were talking about it and play it to the very end because what’s said at the very end is very important. But you can see he presets. Just a slight little tweak of the hip. Now that’s what I thought. I thought no, he’s not doing it much. Beautiful. Now listen to this, John. He’s picked up some extra length. Yes, he has. He picked up some extra length. All right. And he goes on to shoot 64 in that round and lead the tournament. He didn’t play so well in the last round. The last round, he didn’t play so good. Probably didn’t put well. That’s right. Now, this is me. I thought when I saw Gole doing it, I thought I will go and try it. So, watch this. Now, I feel like my I’m opening I’m presetting my hips 45°. You feel like you’re turning a mile. I feel like I’m turning them a mile, but when you actually play it, Dan. All right. This is me presetting the hips. Look at that. That’s it. I I felt like that was 45. Now, the rest is slow. Now, I can tell you. See, you swing it like an impulter. Yeah, I know. The arms go up. Yeah. Yeah, JT. But this I don’t know whether you can see it, but the gap in my forearms on the way through. So, if you see a big gap in your forearms on the way through, it means you’re flipping. The gap just in this six iron. I mean, you know what you do. I hit about six shots. I go, “Wow, how good is that?” Yep. Just pulls it halfway through when it gets there. Dan and pause it. Oh, just on the fly through that. You said, “Well, you can’t even see a gap.” No, you can’t even see a gap in the forearms. You couldn’t. So, what it’s done for me is obviously it’s given me some more turn because I’m presetting the hips at a dress. Um, and then everything comes down in sync. Love it. Anyway, it’s a bit I’m going to go try. Yeah, I know you’re going to try it. I reckon a lot of people will try it, especially if you’re in your 50s or your 60s, you know, cuz sometimes, you know, I’ve tried fanning out my right foot so I can turn more. I’ve tried just turning more. It never seems to work turning. Lift up your left heel on the back swing. That’s one of your specials. Yeah, I like that. That one that one’s a goodie. But my heels always gone up anyway. Right. Okay. My heels always gone up anyway. Um but believe me, uh one of the reasons that currently I’m now seven under parath through 14 holes at Hope Island is because I have been You’ve reached all the pars in two. Oh, I’m my eight iron’s going 172 yards. Oh dear. Well, I’m definitely going to bring it with me to Hope Island. Yeah, I’m definitely bringing it with me. Anyway, folks, try that. It might be for you, it might not. It’s definitely working for Matt Gole who’s has picked up yards on the senior’s tour. So, preset the hip turn. Hey guys, just before we wrap up, uh it was great to see a live master class last week with the BMW team who had us to uh the driving range at uh Alba Park, which is so much fun. It’s fun for me, and I could see in your face, too. fun for you when people are new to the game and you get them to hit their first good shot. Never picked up a golf club, you know, that sort of thing. It’s so much fun and like I think Matt, Holly, Alex, Emily was a star, all these people. Um, you know, you just get them to hold the club correctly. Set up. Yeah. Explain to them how a golf ball gets in the air and away they go. How how busy is Melbourne Golf Park, by the way? The driving range there is incredible. Golf is going crazy at Melbourne Golf Park. There’s no doubt about it. The other the other thing I noticed, Nick, about all these people, they all go to the driver cuz it’s the easiest club to hit, isn’t it? I mean, once upon a time you teach people with a 7. These days, you teach people with a driver cuz it’s the easiest club to hit. Yeah, it’s true. Get it up in the air. Lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. Um, are you playing well at Hope Island or not? Uh, I’m bogey free. You’re bogey free. That’s a good start. That’s a good start. Good on you, folks. Enjoy the week and we’ll see you next time. 1. Royal Fremantle had a song. Pretty sure everyone did. Freo would choose a choir master based on who played well. Everyone wanted to play at Lake Karrinyup because they had the best meal.

  2. His name was Tim Jones from memory and that driver of the deck was also out of a shallow divot… Horrifying to watch.

  3. Marco, this podcast is awesome, thanks, but can I say Talking Birdies with you and Ox was my Fav radio show, of all time and I'm old.. Could not believe they canned it.

  4. My club was always great with us juniors, except at club championship time. The full members hated it when one of us juniors won a club championship. Never me unfortunately.

  5. Hey Nick, how could you leave out Payne Stewart. Three majors, colourful outfits and one of the sweetest swings ever seen.

  6. Time to change the channel guys. You going on about Norman's hurt feelings. Ffs!! Get a grip guys. Norman has always been an arsehole. Cry, cry, cry.

  7. It was purely preparation and “DESIRE” than won the Europeans the Ryder …..Nicklaus would arrive at every major 10 days or two weeks before the tournament started “I never played a golf tournament the week before a major. I would go to the major course and play it a dozen times in preparation”

  8. Greg Norman has a “Pioneer Spirit”, not uncommon in you Aussie’s. When he lousy his 6 shot lead at The Masters and then sat for Questions from The Media, for what seemed like 45 minutes, that was The Most Impressive feet in Sports, that I have ever witnessed. I was so moved, that I wanted to write to him. “Grace in Defeat”, That is Greg Norman, True Courage. The man will not back down, Good On Ya, Greg, ❤️ from South Dakota

  9. A great day with Nick and Mark at Hope Island. Fantastic experience, from the short game masterclass to the Q&A and stories from two aussie legends of Australian golf. Thanks guys. Hope it will be an annual event.
