The top high school golfers on the Cape and Islands are set to compete at the 68th annual Cape Cod School Boy Golf Championship hosted by Willowbend Country Club on Oct. 10.

Golfers will tee off beginning at 9:30 a.m. on both The Bay and The Bog courses at the Mashpee golf club. Spectators can attend for free. For directions to the course, visit www.willowbendcapecod.com.

The Field

The field will be comprised of all 16 of the Cape and Islands high school golf teams that competed this fall season, including defending tournament champion Barnstable.

Of the region’s 16 that will be competing on Friday, 10 have qualified for their respective Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association South Sectional to be conducted at a trio of sites on Oct. 14.

For the Cape Cod School Boy Golf Championship, each team will bring three players, and all will count towards the team’s total. The winning team will host the Willowbend Cup, which has been awarded at the conclusion of the previous 11 editions. The Red Hawks are coming off their third triumph at the event as a program.

The trophy is kept on display in the clubhouse at Willowbend and is inscribed with the winning team’s name and score for that year. Replicas of the cup are given to the school, while there are trophies for each member of the team.

The Red Hawks’ Colin Gleason, who is committed to play at Bryant University next fall, returns to defend his individual title after he outlasted Cape Cod Academy’s Ben Catalano in a play-off last year.

The individual champion is presented with the Walter Hewins Trophy, which is named after Walter Hewins who has been instrumental in conducting the event since its inception in 1958.

Gleason will tee off alongside Max St. Aubin (Nauset) and Sam Scioletti (St. John Paul II) in the event’s marquee group on The Bay Course, followed by Blaise Chatigny (Sandwich), Alex Saunders (Sturgis West) and Chris Morin (Cape Tech).
