The St. Clair Township Fire Department and CF Industries are celebrating a successful charity golf tournament which will benefit three area food banks.
Fire Chief Richard Boyes shared the positive news during a recent council meeting.
“Earlier this year, we partnered with CF Industries to revive St. Clair fire department’s charity golf tournament, which has been on pause since the COVID pandemic,” Boyes said. “I’m pleased to report that through the combined efforts of our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and community partners, we raised a total of $42,000 for the food banks.”
The funds were split evenly between St. Andrew’s Food Bank in Corunna, Brigden United Church Food Bank, and Sacred Heart Food Bank in Port Lambton.
“Each of these organizations provides vital support to the families, seniors, and individuals across the township,” Boyes said. “Supporting them is one of the best ways to give back to the community that continues to support the fire department so strongly.”
CF Industries Site Manager Steve Jonkhans highlighted the support received in order to help organize the tournament.
“I think we’re already planning next year’s event to build off this year’s success. We hope to make it even better to keep giving back to the community,” Jonkhans said.
Mayor Jeff Agar joined representatives in handing out the cheques during the October 6 council meeting.
