Taylor Montgomery assessed his third round with calm confidence despite a few missed chances around the greens. “I felt like I played pretty solid,” he said. “I just messed up a few chip shots on the back nine… the Bermuda rough, it’s tricky.”
Looking ahead to Sunday, Montgomery believes the tournament is wide open: “Anybody within five shots can win on this course because it can play very tough. The rough is penalizing, and shots from the fairway are kind of a must.”
As for his mindset in the final round, he kept things simple: “You’re going to have to make a lot of birdies tomorrow. If I can just go through my routine and get up and hit the shot, I should have a good result.”
Tyler, how would you characterize your round today? Uh, I felt like I played pretty solid. I just uh messed up a few chip shots on the back nine. Had a couple uh kind of tough lies and I didn’t judge a couple of them correctly. So, I mean, normally my chipping’s pretty good and I just the Bermuda rough it’s it’s tricky. So, you feel like you kind of you kept your composure and you know I mean obviously still right there heading into Sunday. Yeah, I mean it’s kind of a strange course. You can hit a lot of good shots and make pars or you can start making some putts and just randomly like roll off like five or six birdies in a row. Uh anybody within five shots I think can can win on this course because it is it can play uh very tough. the rough is uh very penalizing and um obviously the greens are getting a little firmer which is nice to nice to see and so shots from the fairway are kind of a must going into tomorrow I would think. What do you feel like is the main key for you thought process or what you feel like you need to do really well tomorrow to be standing with the trophy on at the end of the day? Yeah, it’s going to be uh gonna have to make a lot of birdies tomorrow. Uh from the looks of the scoreboard, but uh if I can just do what I did today, I felt like I did a really good job after the first couple holes like with my driver and fairway woods off the tea of just kind of visualizing the shot and stepping up and hitting it. I mean, sounds so easy, but you get in a tournament and you’re over a four day stretch, it’s like you kind of lose your mind a little bit. So, if I can uh just kind of go through my routine and uh get up and hit the shot, uh should have a good result. Thanks, D. Appreciate it. Yep. Thank you, guys.
