If this includes kids and seniors it makes sense because they skew the data. Id say the average healthy adult male would hit closer to 155-170
OTGolf
I absolutely hit my 7i 135-145. Not ashamed, also hit players irons (Taylormade Tour Preferred MB’s 2011). I feel confident in my shot shape and distance control. It’s literally just a number bruh.

Just, am I the only one who just can’t stand Rick?
King_ofTHE_Castle
165 club for me and I’m not a high swing speed player. A lot of it depends on the loft of your 7iron too
CombAny687
Because the average golfer can’t swing correctly. If you’re swinging correctly and hitting the sweet spot you gotta be hitting further than that
BananaJack82
Average golfer will say they hit it 155-175 yet come up short 95% of the time.
Intelligent_Choice91
Only when I have to hit over water at 145 and think my 7 iron will be long but at least not wet
ugh_everything
I’m surprised the average is 138. I don’t strike my irons particularly well, but I’m definitely at or exceeding that average by at least 10 to 15 yd.
rblask
Yep, that’s pretty consistently what I hit my 7i unless it’s on a 135 yard par 3 in which case I hit it about 160 into the woods behind the green
lee--carvallo
My 7i is my 130 club. I don’t give a shit if that makes me a short hitter because I can usually hit where I’m aiming.
“Usually” is used loosely here of course
sdghjjd
Sometimes. Sometimes 115. Sometimes 165. It depends.
CaptnZacSparrow
7 Iron is my 170 club. Will I hit and straight and on the green? Probably not, but I’m gonna try.
big-daddio
That seems low unless it’s the “average 7 iron” which includes all the 60 yard chunks and pure shanks. If you took all my 7 iron shots that are in the 25-75% percentile and average those they would be about 150 carry and I’m not a long hitter at all.
truckthunders
My 7i distance is between 10-160yds.
alexyZZZ
178-185yd carry for me, one of the things i love about golf more than anything is that it truly is for everyone. IDGAF if you or i are 50yds longer or shorter, i just want to enjoy the round and have a day.
Found_My_Ball
Distance needs to be put into terms of loft and not the number stamped onto the club.
purple_paradigm
I’m sorry but it’s my 190-200 club. At sea level
quamikazee
Source? Also, what’s the median? Would suspect that may even be lower.

Guess I’m just built different 💪🏻

That’s the distance on my PW. Ya’ll need some wheaties
iFLED
The average male golfer is like 65 years old
EZE333
Dang…maybe I am average after all
Pathogenesls
175y here, I think these stats are skewed by kids and old people
FI-Engineer
Hey, I’ll have you know I shoot my 7-iron 30 yards further or shorter than I intend to all the time.
secret_alpaca
Saying “hit a 7 iron ### yards” is meaningless because of wide range of lofts. And it doesn’t matter how far you hit a certain club, as long as you know how far you hit that club and play accordingly.
hoboguy26
I hit mine 190 last Sunday when I missed the green to the right and hit the cart path sending my ball onto the next tee box
Alarming_Animator_19
What the hell’s an 7 iron when then all have different lofts though.

If I get 13 yards of rollout. Lol.
Hey thats me
