Max Homa breaks down a stress-free 5-under: fewer big misses, tight dispersion, and a headspace built to win now, not chase mechanics. He praises the course, jokes about “diaper duty,” and explains why results will follow if the process stays sharp.

Max, how would you characterize the round today? Yeah, just like standard good golf. Like nothing felt crazy good. Nothing was below average. Just a really good round of golf. Hit enough fairways, hit enough good iron shots, hit enough made enough putts. So, um, nothing like to write home about, but also just very good. How can I say just with how the year kind of went with all the changes you’ve kind of been making in your swing, how good does that kind of feel to say where you say nothing great, nothing bad, nothing good, but you shot five under? Uh, yeah. I mean, I’m I’m I’m way less focused on all that than I think the general public is. I feel like I’ve I started swinging the club pretty well around the truest. So, uh obviously didn’t like get the results, but it’s been a while since I felt like I couldn’t hit the golf ball. So, uh you know, pretty much after Florida, this game started to feel at least like manageable. So, still been avoiding some of like the really big misses. Uh so, I would say if there was one thing I was, you know, excited about today as far as all that goes, it would just be like the dispersion was small. when I was playing my best golf, I just felt like when I missed, they were very, very small misses. Um, wouldn’t hit enough great shots, but I hit a lot of like okay shots. Uh, so felt like that was how it felt or looked like today. You know, it was very rarely hit one, you know, hit a stinker up there. So, taking away from the technical stuff and the swing stuff, you feel like the results are maybe hopefully coming to where you want them to be? Yeah, you always hope for that. Uh but I’ve just been doing a really good job mentally of uh you know competing and and did a good job in Napa after a big break. Uh felt like I came out today or this whole week prepared to win a golf tournament, not just get better at golf. So uh pretty stoked about where my head’s at. Uh got a nice appreciation uh you know to for the opportunity. Uh I love coming to this golf course. It’s uh one of the better courses we play. So, uh, yeah, I just feel like, um, you know, results are they’ll be what they are, but I know if I keep doing what I’m doing, like that I don’t really have to worry about that one. With just like one term since kind of early August, what did you kind of do with some of the break? Spent a lot of family time and such. Yeah, I had a kid nine weeks ago, so not second kid. I mean, so, uh, not a whole lot, uh, a lot of practice. Um, just kept, you know, obviously just working a lot, uh, trying to get, uh, right for this week in Japan next week. So, uh, just been grinding a bunch. Um, other than that, I mean, I don’t really have a whole lot of hobbies outside of changing diapers, so it’s about it. Thanks, Max. Thank you.
