We’ll never turn down a chance to stop by Old Head Golf Links whenever we’re on the southwest coast of Ireland. We caught up with Enda MaGuire, Director of Golf at Old Head, to catch up with him and the club. Old Head was one of our first stockists in Ireland, and our relationship has been strong from the very start. Heartfelt thanks for having us out to visit, and for the continued support over the years.
So my name is Andy Mcguire, director of golf. So at Old Head, we have about 500 members, predominantly overseas members. We have a lot of visitor play as well. So it’s quite a busy golf course. We would really pride oursel on customer service and you know, Old Head’s an experience. Um I think for people coming in through the gate, they get the wow factor and, you know, the scenery. It’s it’s pretty awesome. And I think even when you look at pictures of it, it doesn’t do it justice until you’re actually driving in the driveway. So the Okconor brothers were two businessmen from Kerry and they had the vision to build a golf course here in Old. It’s always been private family business and even today Patrick’s daughter Lara is the CEO and it’s very much it feels like a family. I have to say working here when I originally come down and people talk oh about the family they look after the staff so well and and everybody especially in such a small community gets along so well together and it’s a fun place to work as well. We’re fortunate we have 21 suites here uh at the course as I always say to people it’s a golf club with accommodation as opposed to a hotel but the people who stay here love it and all of a sudden they come out to this nature completely untouched. There’s no traffic. There’s no noise and and it’s just such a peaceful experience. Yeah. So, dealing with Holdness and Bourne is just I mean it’s a pleasure from start to finish aside from the product quality. Uh you know, the service is outstanding cuz there’s always someone on the other end of the phone very responsive and and the whole So, personally, my favorite pieces would be I love the Maxwell shirt. It’s nice and fitted on the sleeves. It’s comfortable to wear and it’s nice and long in the fit. Um it’s the little things and again it’s the attention to detail. Even in the trousers and the shorts, they have the grip on the waist, so when you’re out there playing, your your shirt’s not untucking the whole time. Obviously, Old Head is is well known for its scenery. I mean, some of the holes are like nothing you’ve ever seen anywhere. Uh the 12th hole is about 300 ft above sea level. Most people walk on to the T- box and they say, “Where’s the hole?” Aside from the scenery, if you actually delve into the golf course and the golf course design, which was designed by Ron Kirby, uh some of the whole layouts are just spectacular.
