Ventura Skate Park Grand Opening

The city of Ventura just built a new skate park at West park. I was able to skate the grand opening with Matthew Wilcox.

So, it’s my birthday today. We can eat Korean barbecue. I tell my buddy over there, I don’t want the robot. And he happily has sent the robot over. I’m officially on status. This is crazy. So, we’re So, we’re on the city of Ventura. Ivan and Kim just got done doing something with Rowdy for the City of Ventura. And, uh, we came and hang out at this bar and Ivan has been hyping up the bathroom since he first went in there. So, Sasquatch, that’s all I got to say. Sasquatch. All right, let’s go check this out. They’ve got Han Solo in the front. Okay, this is a good sign. Yo, what? Okay, this bathroom is sick. Yo, the urinal are beer cakes. That’s insane. Yo, this is sick. They even have him holding hands walking with an alien. That’s hilarious. A side note, whoever tagged on these walls, you guys suck. We got a beer tap to wash your hands, that’s crazy. All right, I need both my hands for this. I got a really late start to my day. I’m usually out of the house by like 5 5:30. I feel a little more rested than usual. But aside from all that nonsense, today is the Ventura skatepark grand opening, and this place is sick. But before we get to all the fun stuff, I do have a full shift ahead of me. So, so far’s been going by really smooth. We just had lunch. I’m stuffed and uh we’re almost out of here. Catch up with you guys in a bit after a long day at work. It’s finally over. It’s time to have some fun. Guess who I just found here? Yeah, Matthew. Matthew was just telling me that everybody was waiting to skate and apparently he was the first one into the park and as soon as he barged in, everybody else started coming in and skating it. This gentleman asked Matthew to air over the volcano. Wow. Damn, that’s one way to start the day. Matt was saying they just painted everything. What was that? I hit the first grind on it. All of the rails are freshly painted. Yeah. What? Said it both ways. He asked Matthew to selfie film himself with his uh with his phone. He has like a gimbal on it. No way. I don’t know what this thing is. It’s crazy. Matthew’s having a blast using that gimbal. Let’s see where he’s going. This park’s maybe like half an hour away from my job. Half an hour with no traffic. I really need to start coming here more. This park has literally everything, including the pool. This is probably where I’m going to learn a skate transition. Be careful. Oh, all the stuff in the middle. Oh, yeah. I see. That’s trash. Yeah. Yeah. Just be careful. Okay, I will. I want to like drop in and straight into it. Yeah, I think you probably go through it, but some stuff. All right, let’s see if we can make it around. Oh, there’s a step. Oh, yo, this pool’s actually pretty mellow. All right, let’s see if I can scratch Kopi. Goal number one of the day complete. Oh, Matthew’s got the music playing. Let’s go. Yeah, it’s a vibe. Whoa. He landed in the flat. Yo, Tech Matt. Dude, every time you see Matthew, he’s like more of a street skater. What the hell? Yeah. Woo. Yeah, man. Good save. No way. He really popped his nose off that. trying to shift it. Traffic made me hurt my my knee. Oh, I think I missed that whole 360. That was first try. He didn’t even like look at it or anything. Sorry. Getting through here is crazy right now. [Applause] Look at the snake run right now. Oh yeah. Everybody Everybody’s jamming in there, dude. I’m going chill on snake run. The kids are like, “Yo, we’re going to skate this.” Oh, yeah. The kids are hyped on the snake run. Have you been in there yet? Yeah. Planned on skating it a bunch, but I’ll probably chill today. There’s a lot of people who want to skate it, so Yeah, that’s true. And Matthew also messed up his knee, so everything you’re seeing right now Oh, yeah. Just me like angry and like pushing through it. This stuff looks like he’s having so much fun. Yo. Okay, hold on. Hold on. You guys need to see how steep this wall is. It’s insane. Like look at that thing. More most of it is vert. Like the only piece of like smooth transition would be the bottom, but even then it’s still pretty steep. What the hell? Random handstand. [Applause] Yeah, dude. Tech Matthew is unstoppable. Let’s go. Oh, tell me why I knew you were going to front side flip. I Oh, I had such a good feeling. Every here and there I’ll get like a little like like sore like sore feeling. Oh, like it’ll just want to give out kind of thing. Not give out, but it just has like a little like like Oh, you hit that. Oh, he’s got that nice and wrapped up. Give it like 5 minutes, 10 minutes. Oh, yeah. In. Oh, go therapy. Yeah, that was sick. He just grinded the back side of that thing. Oh, yeah. The back of that wall is super steep, too. We can actually get a really good look at the park from here. In the back, we’ve got like a little fun section in that steep wall I was talking about earlier. And it goes into like this. I want to see like a little mini ramp uh setup here. There’s like one quarter pipe there, a nice flat bottom, and another quarter pipe. Like a weird little step up thing. I actually really like the way this pyramid is set up. I mean, it’s not as wide as I would really like, but what I do like about it is that it goes into this wall. So, even if you like overshoot the other side of that pyramid, you have this red bank to land on and it’s just super smooth. The flat bar is really low and at a fun height. Same thing with the ledge. The manual pad, same thing. Ledge over the manny pad is like almost the same height as this ledge. I feel like everything at this skatepark is perfect for beginners. Like if you’re just starting off and learning to skate, this skatepark is like perfect. We’ve got this little quarter pipe that you drop into. It’s actually really little. It’s like super mellow, super chill to learn tricks on. You hit the little uh look what that’s called, a pole jam. How did I forget what it was called? Little hubbub rail. Like everything is really fun and playful. I mean, they even have a curb on top of a bank. Like how much more playful can it get? He threw his head and picked it back up. That’s so funny. I can’t believe I missed everything. Dude, this guy’s been doing the craziest early grabs all day. Let’s see if he doesn’t right now. Oh, the one I filmed. The only one he missed all day. Yeah. He flew like halfway down the ramp to his butt. That was crazy. [Music] Dude, [ __ ] sick. [Music] Yeah. Nice. [Music] Before he rolled in, he’s like, “This is for Omar. [Music] [Music] Yeah. Woo. [Music] [Music] [Applause] I got to remember my line. [Music] [Applause] [Music] We’ve pretty much been here all day. Matt destroyed the skate park. Matthew, you are the best. Oh no, that was bad. Oh my goodness. All right, real quick for reference. This thing is crazy. Whoa, he just really got all four on. Oh my goodness. Oh, that was crazy, man. That would have been cool if I landed it. That was still pretty cool. That was crazy looking. [ __ ] Matt. Yeah, I just The grab was not as cool as the grab wasn’t as cool, dude. That was crazy. The way you landed both feet to be told on the wall. It’s crazy. Let’s look at that. Well, my phone ended up dying halfway through the session or halfway through the day. Actually, my phone actually lasted a pretty good while. Good job, phone. Matthew put it down today, dude. Today was seriously a demo of just magic shredding. Like honestly, you put it down today, bro. Is fun, dude. This park is sick. Think about it. It’s fun. Has a lot of good walls, transfers. Oh yeah, dude. This park is seriously 10 out of 10.
