In this short video we share 4 things that have been banned from badminton!

Giving you an insight into all things BADMINTON!

Four things that have been banned from Badminton, including one that was officially banned just a few weeks ago. Number one is holding your
racket up at the net and obstructing your opponent’s swing. You need to allow them space to play their shot. So, if your racket is preventing their follow-through, it’s a fault! Number two is
that applying cold spray on yourself in between points is now banned and you can now only use it in the intervals. This is to try and speed up play and stop people time wasting. Number three is hitting the feathers on the serve in order to make it spin. Made famous by the Sidek brothers in the 1980s. This was banned because it was so unpredictable to return and probably
because it also absolutely destroys the feathers And so the rule was changed that you had to hit the cork first. But then over 40 years later, there was another serve innovation where you
spin the cork before you contact the shuttle again making it almost impossible to return!
We believe this was first seen in the Korean National League and then on the European Tour, but it’s now officially been banned forever. So now you know

  1. let’s just ban badminton entirely, no more tactics, no more skill, just pure fairness! sounds perfect, doesn’t it?

  2. Certain players at meetups seem to only understand & accept that obstructing an opponent's swing is illegal after they crack their own frame.😂 I use Play rackets in case my opponent obstructs me with their Pro racket.

  3. Number 1 and 4 are really controversial. number 1: When is it obstruction and when is it good defense? Number 4: try to do this serve, when badly done it is a high and useless serve that will be punished by your opponent! I can kind of make it tumble with a slash or effect from the racket itself. Will they make that illegal as well?

  4. Obstructing your opponent’s shot was banned a long time ago. Not new.

You can always make your shot, just not block your racquet blatantly in front of your opponent’s shot. Still leave alot in the umpire’s discretion tbough.

  5. Tactic and technic are utmost important to beat an apponent. It is innovative. Now, you look like stupid. Just why dont you give racket and a shuttle without feather.. solved your brainy idea.

  6. i'm so confused with the first thing that is recently banned. i know it may also applied with 13.4.4 of bwf rules.
But the thing is i like playing like it … LOL . mostly in doubles , when i play net shot, and opponent try to lift clear, then i used to pre-block or pre-swing from above the net , so that cleared shuttle is suddenly hit and i score.

what i feel is it should be legal . cos u're doing what you can from your side. They may say your racket may block opponent's stroke. But if their stroke is coming to your side over net, it may not be appropriate, though its legal if their follow stroke is over the net after hitting shuttle.

And if the rule say "you're in the way of the shuttle", of course we always have to, rite ? when opponent smash, we prepare to make block or clear return , getting ready our racket in the shuttle way.

how do you guys think ?
