THE HERD | Colin Cowherd PROVES Justin Herbert Is NOT To BLAME For Los Angeles Chargers Struggles | NFL
#theherd #colincowherd #losangeleschargers

Popper. It says, “Since entering the NFL in 2020, Justin Herbert, has been hit more times than any quarterback in the league. Only one other quarterback, Russell Wilson, has been hit more than 490 times in that span.” “By the way,” said Daniel Pa, “Andrew Luck was hit 580 times in his six seasons. Justin Herbert is on pace to be hit 625 times through six seasons.” There’s your answer on Russell Wilson. He just spent a career getting hit too much and he aged fast. Go look at Cam Newton. Cam Newton started declining at 29. Gigantic Cam got hit too much. Andrew Luck left the league early. So, it’s almost like if you want to be the guy that closes the bar in your 20s and 30s, you may not see it in real time. You’re going to look like hell at 51. You’re going to look like 59. And you may not see it now in real time with Justin Herbert, but you cannot get hit 14 and 15 times a game. And we know why because both tackles are out and Mai Beckton’s never healthy. So right now the Chargers are starting three sixth round picks on the offensive line. And whereas Cincinnati can’t protect Burl because they’re cheap, this is not a cheap thing. This is a cluster injuries at one position. And for years, I’ve always had this rule. I’ve talked to executives in this league forever. I always say there’s three ways to win in this league, and you have to do them in order. Find a great quarterback. Number two, buy insurance for him. Protect him at the offensive line. And then draft guys who make the opposing quarterback uncomfortable. That’s the league. If you do those three three things well, you win Super Bowls. When the Rams and McVey won a Super Bowl, star quarterback, Andrew Witworth, left tackle, Aaron Donald, von Miller, that’s it. Andrew Witworth retires, you still have McVey, you still have Jar, you have Jared Verse, you have Matt Stafford. Offensive line’s not quite as good. So, this is really an offensive line issue, but unlike Cincinnati, who just doesn’t spend the money, the Chargers have just had bad breaks. So my takeaway is go back to those Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson stats. I think the Chargers for no other reason, forget winning today. It’s to protect their asset, have to make a move at the trade deadline. Chargers fans, do you see this is why I start saying, “Guys, I lived in San Diego. Please follow me. Please subscribe.” Because this is what I’ve been saying all season long. This is why I say Chargers fans, please, you got to subscribe. you you got to help me build this awesome community. And I’m like, I lived in North Park and La Hoya and South Park and PB and all that stuff because I’m like, come on, let let’s build a true Charger following here. And I show you when you guys watch the full length of the video and when you subscribe, we go through the roof. And it’s because this is what I’ve been saying now. People are catching up to this. This is what I’ve been saying all season long. And I’m going up against it because people keep saying, “Oh, well, Patrick Mahomes didn’t have a good old line.” And then I compare that not only is Justin Herbert getting hit at clearly a historical level, which is what I’ve said in multiple videos, multiple videos. And of course, you know, surprise surprise, uh, you got random Chiefs fans and random Mahomes fans trying to push back on this, but that he’s also on track to have his receivers drop the ball 40 times, over 40 times. So, he is on pace to being hit at an insanely historical rate. And the drop passes are also an all time, not number one, but up there all at the same time. And we think that Justin Herbert is supposed to just magically overcome this, that he deserves no benefit of the doubt, or that it’s proof that Justin Herbert’s not that good. This is the takes that drive me insane. These are the takes that driving me insane. This is why I’m like San Diego Los Angeles Chargers. I’m like, please be be part of this community. I need more of you. I need more of you. I need you all to rise to the occasion. I need you to step up. I need the more real people in the comments section. I need people who were in San Diego like I was when the Chargers moved to LA. I need people who are living in LA rent or wherever because this is like this is so validating to see a c you know to see a you know a social media post like this. I literally just made a video yesterday talking all about this cuz when Nick was like well look he was like look his numbers aren’t very good in the last three weeks. He’s regressing. And it’s regressing because he’s literally getting beat up like it’s a UFC fight out there. And it just drives me crazy that people are like, “Well, Baker Mayfield’s O line and Dak Prescott’s O line.” It’s not the same. And when people say, “Oh, well, other, you know, injuries.” Oh gosh. Not all injuries are created equally. Some backups are better than other backups. You guys understand that, right? We understand that. So just because another team is dealing with injuries doesn’t mean it’s the same thing. We know it’s not one equals one here, right? We know that there’s there’s differences. We know not every team that has a let’s just use a a third string running back. We do understand that the third string running backs all over the NFL are not just identical to one another, right? We understand that. Just like how not all wide receiver ones are identical to each other and wide receiver twos are not all identical. Just like how not all quarterbacks are identical. You know, it’s the same thing with offensive line play, right? We we understand that. And you know, it’s really difficult to win games or look good when not only can you not protect your quarterback, but then you also can’t catch the ball. At least that’s what Joe Burrow had going for him because Joe Burrow got beat up last year as well. Had one of the worst O line I’ ever seen. uh 50% pass block win rate, but at least he had receivers that could catch the ball. He had receivers that could catch the ball. That’s the difference. And then that’s what it’s that’s what triggers me and drives me crazy when people are like, “Well, Patrick Mahomes won a Super Bowl when he led the league in dropped passes in 23.” And it’s just like he had an elite defense. He was also protected. Also, in the playoffs, those receivers no longer dropped the ball. Josh Allen receivers had more drop passes than Patrick Mahomes did. And Josh Allen played less playoff games. His defense held the Miami Dolphins to seven points and the Baltimore Ravens to 10 points. Justin Herbert’s going to be winning a lot more games if he can hold his defense to if his defense can hold the opposing team to seven points. But now also even with the pressure again Patrick Mahomes didn’t have a good old line last year and he made it to the Super Bowl and it’s like oh my goodness Justin Herbert is on pace to have over a hundred more pressures. These are massive numbers. These are massive swings. Massive swings. This is real information here. Like I was just having a conversation about this with um a Dallas Cowboys fan who I like, Grover. Shout out Grover. And he talked about and I get it because he brought up he goes, “Well, hey, you know, Dak Prescott has been pressured 71 times and Jayen Herz has been pressured 72.” And it’s like, yeah, on the surface you’re like, yeah, they’ve been pressured about the same amount. That’s pretty interesting. Until you look at the number of dropbacks and then you see, oh, Jaylen Herz is actually being pressured at a rate 10% higher. And again, and again, in football terms, that ends up being huge. Just like this right here, where he’s been hit more times, but he’s been hit 525 times. And no other quarterback has been hit more than 490 times in that span is insane. Especially when we factor in last season, Justin Herbert had a lot less pass attempts. And Justin Herbert also missed some games in this window. Think about Josh Allen didn’t miss any games. Patrick Mahomes didn’t miss any games. Jaylen Herz has missed a couple games. Pretty sure Justin Herbert has missed more in that timeline, in that time frame. These things matter. These things matter. And someone is now trying to say in the comment section, when are we going to start blaming Justin Herbert for holding on to the ball? Right? That’s that’s what Justin Herbert’s notorious for doing. He just holds on to the ball too long. He just is like, I don’t know where to go with the ball. I’m not very good at football. H what do I do? I don’t know who’s open. I I’m not good at throwing. No, it’s he’s trying to make plays because he has to. Otherwise, his team has no chance to win. That’s that’s how that works. Okay, that’s how that works, guys. I I I really am having this like this moment here and I’m this is when I’m going to start to ask people in in in the beginning of my videos like I need I need higher quality comments in the comment section to drown out because the the the loudest people are often the negative biased haters, right? I I make a Justin Herbert video pretty much saying what I’m saying here although differently and it’s just the comment section will be flooded with again like Mahomes fans etc etc and it’s just like we need we need to be we need to be big enough where it’s like no no no I make that video and the comment section is flooded with like Chargers fans Justin Herbert fans people that are a lot more grounded and not just a well Patrick Mahomes did this in 2019 and it’s like oh dude Kitty, that’s so cool. That’s so cool. It’s like, okay, we we we need to we need to restore balance in the football world here. It’s like just a bunch of Cartman’s right now. We need we need some more Stan and Kyle’s. Okay, that’s that’s that’s what we need. Um, but I’m so I mean I’m bummed that this is real, that this post is here. But this is, like I said, I just made a whole video talking about this yesterday and the day before and the day before that. And I mean, just look at all my Chargers videos recently. I’m like, what do you guys what do you guys expect? And every time Nick writes like, “Oh, see Chargers chargering Chargers chargering the regression of Justin Herbert. See, he’s not that good.” And the guy is being beaten up like you wouldn’t believe. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. But those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about Justin Herbert just getting crushed out there? Literally getting crushed more than any other quarterback. Let me know in the comments below. I read every single comment. So, whether you agree with me or disagree with me, either way, let’s get in some discussions. Let’s get in some fights. But ultimately, let’s just have some fun. And please do consider subscribing. We are building an amazing community here and absolutely love to see you part of it. I want to build something that we all genuinely feel connected to. Something that we’re really excited to be part of. I think we’re well on our way to doing it. Please don’t forget to give this video a thumbs up as it really does help with the visibility and the algorithm. Thank you so much. See you next time.

  1. The offensive line flaws are to much to overcome! Justin can only do so much. But people forget Joe Alt will return and so will Kalil!

  2. Poor Unce Colin is stuck in the past ! He only praises big white QB's like Andrew Luck , John Elway and his present Holy Trinity of ,Stafford , Herbert ,and Allen just like when he was a kid . He will make all the excuses for them always rankining them over Mahomes ,Jackson , Daniels and super bowl MVP Jalen Hurts fits right in at Fox

  3. Justin Herbert has been carrying his team since he he was thrown in as a starter. Never has he had a complete team with a competent running game.

  4. It was bad enough at the start of the season only 3 of the 5 O-line would be good enough to start on any other team. Now it’s 0 out of 5 who would even make the practice squad.
And not all pass drops are equal. Seems most of Herbert’s drops come on 3rd down or in the end zone.
Herbert isn’t holding the ball too long. Roman sends receivers on routes that require at least a 3 second drop and Herbert is getting pressured in under 2.2 seconds

  5. Do you know why we didn’t see anything from Gadsden until Trey Lance came in the game? It seems like Conklin is just a liability in the pass game.

  6. Hello my name is myron Justin herbert is in his second year in a good situation good coach GM, and competent defense problem it took year 5-6 to get it pat mahomes had year 1 lamar had it year 1 josh allen and joe borrow at least had good coach
They three named also had consist run game give herbert protection and a run game u will see this team DOMINATE period…………………….

  7. This whole issue is on ORTIZ!!! All preseason we banged on the table O-LINE!!!! he didn't listen also part of harbaugh for not making him bring in better linemen thats his whole thing

  8. Everytime i get the dumb 9ers, bucs, cowboys etc etc have injuries i ask them if they think 9ers losing purdy is equivalent to bengals losing bengals and it shuts them right up 😂

  9. We’re middle of the pack in drops but people are never gonna understand Herbert until he plays in games people watch. No one watches chargers games and that’s the issue

  10. Anybody that says that Justin Herbert is holding onto the ball missed the stat the Tom Brady put up that showed that he has 2.1 seconds before he gets hit

  11. Herbert is a decent QB, but far overrated. This is his 6th NFL season and has never won a playoff game. He has only been to the playoffs 2 times in his career, and lost both games. His playoff game last year was the worst of his career. His career record is 44-40. That is not an elite QB. Sports personalities like Colin Cowherd always blame everyone else for their losses and let Herbert off the hook. You are what your record says you are. He is a slightly above average QB. Because Colin has his head so far up Jim Harbaugh’s ass, he refuses to be objective about the Chargers. Colin actually said Harbaugh is the best coach ever. Despite Harbaugh losing the 1 SB he coached, and has only 1 NCAA championship

  12. Reno Nv Fan I Just Sub. I hear you about the Team 100% agree with you about the Chargers. Been a fan since the San Diego days. FTRaiders!! FTChiefs!! FTBroncos!! I believe in our team just sucks with all the injuries.

  13. We are extremely injury prone. Our oline is pathetic right now. The seasons not over by any means, but damn! Can we get some help lord 🙏🏼

  14. doesn't this remind you of the Staley years?

    – undisciplined

    – penalties at the most inopportune times

    – Herbert running for his life

    – no depth (I know they have a bunch of injuries, but still #2 at every position is not good)

    – About injuries, I thought Ben Herbert coming in was going to fix this……..not.

    – The conference yesterday with Harbaugh was a joke, he looked like a deer in the headlights.

The only thing that is different is there's no weird "go for it on 4th down" decisions. Other than that, same ol Chargers. Herbert needs to bail, ruining his career and legacy

  15. Not that media matters, but i hate when i see my QB getting shat on like it's his fault. Love your channel bro because you tell the facts

  16. Colin is wrong. This is poor roster construction. They have their starting left guard and center, and where is most of the pressure??? Right up the middle, this isn't an effort thing, it's literally starting O linemen like Bozeman, not knowing what the fck he's doing. Blaming this on injuries is short-sighted at best.

  17. These people dont understand how bad the Chargers Oline depth is. Just watch the Commanders game, no QB is winning that game.

  18. How many more times does Herbert need to get smoked before they upgrade at center? Trade a second round if we have too! Hortiz needs to do better. Bench or cut Bozeman. Literally anyone at this point with a pulse is better than him!

  19. I played football for 18 years and grew up in San Diego and I’ve been saying this about Herbert since he started his career! It’s maddening! It can’t be more obvious

  20. Not all injuries are created equally. Some backups are better than other backups. That’s facts. What makes it worse is our BACKUPS are also hurt LMAO

  21. We need to catch a break please and defense needs to step up. A little progress we better ourselves at the edge rush with Odefa Owen from the Ravens. Our Defense will be elite when Mack comes back.

  22. Hit man Harrison is the first Hitman for a reason folks he hit them in the mouth, and we lost that Super Bowl

  23. Let Trey Lance start vs Miami. Give JH rest and just see how a younger faster QB does w this O line. Could be he improvises and gives the team some ideas. Why does the blue print for a back up have to be so limiting.

  24. I'm glad to be part of your community! I've been a Chargers fan for a long time! I'm a season ticket holder so I'm a huge supporter of the team! Herbert needs the protection. These past 2 games that they lost it wasn't on him! When defense can't get to the qb and can't stop the run and can't get off the field on 3rd and 4th down what does that tell you! My dude out here getting killed, no time to do anything!

  25. Epic failures like never before all around Herbert but definitely’Not’ Herbert himself, it’s so frustrating because Herberts physical traits could be used to win games not to absorb punishment and watch 40 dropped passes. Just awful, glad he has a hot girlfriend at least he has that but no team.

  26. As a Wsh fan this is why I’m glad Jayden is finally listening when Tom Brady talks to him personally about sliding, and Wsh invested great draft capital to get a top tier LT in Tunsil, then drafting another OT in the 1st round, to protect the franchise QB.

  27. I've watched the Chargers enough to turn off the game on Sunday before the 4th quarter. Herbert snaps the ball and has all of 1 second to get rid of it. It's really making the offense impossible to function. With a AVERAGE O-Line, the dude could actually have the opportunity to air it out. It's really fcking unfortunate.

  28. Nick "Lefty" Wright @FoxSports is the biggest unknowledgable sports host ever. Hes love drunk on MacheesyHolmes. Hater of HERBERT.
