JONESBORO, Ark. – Two East Texas A&M University men’s golfers finished in the top 10 at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate as the Lions took third as a team in the tournament this week at the RidgePointe Country Club.
Entering the day in third place, the Lions remained in third place with a score of 289 in the final round on Tuesday. Arkansas State shot 823 as a team this week to win its home tournament by 26 strokes over UT Martin.
Davis Seybert (Trinity Midland) recorded another top 10 finish as Lion as he tied for sixth with a score of 214 (73-70-71), while Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) finished a stroke back and tied for eighth place with a score of 215 (71-71-73).
“We were fighting hard after our set-back in round one and I am really proud of where we finished this week,” said director of golf Brian Dolehide. “Great playing by Davis and Janis this week to hold it down at the top of the leaderboard!”
The Red Wolves’ Milan Reed edged out his teammate Thomas Schmidt by a stroke, winning the individual crown with a score of 202.
Among the other Lions, Matt Walters (Ballitto, South Africa) tied for 38th place with a score of 225 (80-72-73), while Nicke Kaajavirta (Kajaani, Finland) tied for 45th place with a score 226 (77-70-79) as did Blake Taylor (Mansfield), who shot 80-74-72 in the three rounds, respectively.
Cooper Watt (Rockford, Ill.) competed as an individual this week but turned in a tied for 20th place finish as he shot a score of 220 (74-74-72).
UP NEXT
The Lions end the fall portion of their schedule on October 20-21 at the LaTour Collegiate in Mathews, Louisiana.
