Garrick Higgo reflects on a strong round built on solid driving and improved wedge play — especially from the range he’s been laser-focused on in practice. In this interview, he opens up about overcoming a torn labrum, regaining momentum from earlier in the year, and shifting his mindset to prepare for long-term success. Higgo shares how avoiding surgery was a relief and what he’s doing to stay healthy for the upcoming season. He also describes what it was like watching Matt Kuchar’s ace firsthand, calling him “one of the all-time greats.” Insightful and grounded, Higgo’s outlook is all about steady growth and staying sharp.
Garrick, what was working so well for you today? Yeah, I think obviously I drove it good. Um, and then I just took advantage of that with my wedges and irons. Um, what was maybe the best shot here today? I like the wedge shot in on one a lot. Um, you know, that’s that’s the range I’ve been working on. Um, I haven’t been taking advantage of that when I’ve had like a gap wedge or pitching wedge. Um, you know, and I hit that to like six feet. So, but there was there was a few more good shots. I just can’t remember them right now. What in particular have you been working on with like that kind of range of um of shots? Um just distance control. You know, obviously you’re not going to hit it that far left and right. So, that’s a big opportunity to hit it close. Um so, just distance control. Um haven’t changed anything with my technique, just working on the same stuff. Have you felt more confidence in your game as the year has kind of gone along this year? This year. Yeah. Um, a little bit. I had I had a bit of a momentum break after I tore my labroom. Um, so I’m pretty happy that I feel like I’ve got my momentum back. I had a lot of momentum obviously from Puntaana. Um, so yeah, I I feel pretty confident, but I’m trying to play the long game as well, like trying to get ready for next year and have a good next year and play some elevated stuff. So, how much confidence does it give you now that that labor issue is kind of taken care of? We talked to you at Napper a little bit about that. It feels good. I’m I’m trying to stay injuryfree. It seems like I get a few niggles. Um I I won’t have to do surgery. I was scheduled to have surgery windom week, so I’ve pushed I’ve I think I’ll be fine. Um my wrist is good. So, yeah, I just I I’m doing everything I can to be to be healthy. You’re in the same group as Matt Coocher today. He made an ace. Tell tell us about that a little bit with your group. I always love playing with Cooch. Um just one of the all-time greats. Uh it was fun. He hit it perfect. He hit it like pitched middle green to the right and just I mean I thought it was in. It looked like it disappeared. It was perfect pace. Um yeah, I was happy for him. Cool. See?
