Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald J. Trump, is continuing to face scrutiny for her White House announcement.
The 18-year-old granddaughter of President Trump, who is set to play college golf at the University of Miami next year, has been blowing up on social media. She has millions of followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Kai Trump is now looking to monetize her following. She announced the release of her new sweatshirts last month.
“Live now at Kaitrump.shop (link in bio)! This collection is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and I’m so grateful it’s finally here. Launching this line has been such an exciting project. From the quality of the fabric to the details in the designs, I wanted to create a piece that isn’t just merch but a staple you can wear anywhere. There are Clean pieces you can mix, match, and make your own. I can’t wait to see how you style them!” she announced on September 25.

But Kai Trump made her clothing merchandise announcement on the South Lawn of the White House, sparking backlash, that has continued into October.
Even the Wall Street Journal is talking about it.
“Kai Trump, the president’s granddaughter, launched a line of monogrammed $130 sweatshirts last week. Her promotional images in front of the White House have drawn scrutiny,” they wrote.
The $130 cotton sweatshirts monogrammed with her initials are available for-sale on her website.
“Not many people get to do this, so I’m pretty lucky,” she said during her release video.
But many are criticizing Trump for her sweatshirt announcement, both for taking place at the White House and for how expensive they are.
“130 Bucks for a piece of clothing that has the initials of a 18 year old kid that’s wild,” one fan wrote.
“Would rather burn 130 dollars then buy that sweatshirt,” another fan wrote.
“Should this really be happening on the White House lawn?” another asked.
A White House spokesman, meanwhile, is defending the move, saying that “there is no prohibition against taking pictures on White House grounds nor is there a government endorsement of her product, so there is no issue here,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
Kai Trump is also taking heat for her logo, which bares a similar look to that of Travis Kelce’s logo with American Eagle.
Does Kai Trump deserve to face scrutiny for her announcement?
