It was a given, and it’s now a reality. Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry will play the first two rounds of the Spanish Open together, in a group that includes the reigning champion, Ángel Hidalgo, and which brings together two of the European heroes of the most recent Ryder Cup held just a couple of weeks ago at Bethpage Black.

Pairings for Thursday and Friday’s rounds were released Tuesday, and all eyes are on what’s shaping up to be the marquee matchup of the week. Scheduled for 3:30 AM EST on Thursday (airing on Movistar Golf at 7:45 AM EST) and 8:00 AM EST on Friday, the featured group brings together two heavyweights of the European Tour who boast a combined 13 regular tournament victories and three major championships between them.

Among them is Spain’s own Jon Rahm, nicknamed “Rahmbo,” who has already claimed three of his eight European Tour wins at this very event—tying the legendary Seve Ballesteros. With another victory this weekend, Rahm could break that tie and further cement his place in Spanish golf history.

Shane Lowry

, 2019 Open Champion and the man who clinched the crucial half-point for Team Europe to retain the Ryder Cup just days ago, has fallen in love with Madrid—and he’s back for more. After a memorable experience last year, Lowry returns to the Spanish capital with high hopes and plenty of momentum.

Joining him in the marquee group is Spain’s own Ángel Hidalgo, who stunned Jon Rahm in a playoff to win last year’s tournament. Though Hidalgo has faced a rough patch since, he remains the man to beat—his charisma and flair only add to the star power of this trio.

Meanwhile, Spanish legend Sergio García finds himself in a pairing that hardly reflects his storied career. He’ll tee off alongside Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan and Belgium’s Thomas Detry—at 8:00 AM EST on Thursday and 3:30 AM EST on Friday. It’s a quieter slot for García, but one that could still deliver fireworks if he channels vintage form.
