ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team wrapped up its home tournament in impressive fashion, winning the West Bay Collegiate Invitational with a team score of 828 (-36), defeating Elon by seven strokes. The Eagles were led by Sebastian Gamboa and Tom Scullion, who each carded 11-under to tie for fourth individually, while Sacha Ruiz followed closely at 10-under to tie for ninth.

How It Happened

Tom Scullion and Sebastian Gamboa led the charge, each finishing tied for fourth at 11-under-par with matching totals of 205. Scullion’s hot start included six birdies in round one and seven in round two, tying for the third-most birdies in the field. Gamboa posted steady rounds of 68, 69, and 68, fueled by five birdies in both the first and final rounds.

Sacha Ruiz followed closely behind, tying for ninth at 10-under (206) with standout second round that featured six birdies, tying Scullion for the best individual rounds of the tournament for the Eagles with round scores of 66. Brett Moore added a steady performance, tying for 23rd at 3-under (213), while Nolan Harper finished even-par (216) to tie for 34th, boosted by a team-leading eight birdies in his second round.

The Eagles also saw strong results from their individuals. Brody Stevenson tied for 15th at 6-under (210) with an impressive seven-birdie round two, while Christian Figueredo tied for 26th at 2-under (214) after opening with a 68. Sam Baker finished in a tie for 57th at 9-over (225).

As a team, the Eagles led the field with 72 total birdies over the three rounds.

What's Next

The team begins preparations for Quail Valley Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of South Florida. The tournament takes place in Vero Beach, Fla. over Oct. 19-20.
