Beckley, W. Va. – Day Two of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Women’s Golf Championships teed-off On Tuesday with all eight teams fighting to get to day three. The Wheeling University Women’s Golf Team would just make the cut, finishing 6th overall with a two round score of 830, They Head into the final round with two golfers sitting in the top 20 of the event.
Leading the way heading into day three is senior Ella Keffer, who currently sits tied for 6th with a two-day score of 164. She was able to take four strokes off her score from day one, as she tied her personal best for an MEC Championship event with an 80. She would once again get her start on the back nine and hit par on each of her first two holes, cleaning up her start from round 1. She would add her first stroke of the day on hole 12, And would end up shooting par three more times On the back nine before making the turn. Her score sat at +4 after nine holes, a one-stroke improvement over her day one output, And she looked to keep the success going on the front nine. After doubling on hole one, Keffer hit her best stretch of the day as she hit par on back to back holes. She followed that up with two birdies and another par, Knocking her score for the round down to +2 with three holes to play. She would end the front nine with an equal +4 to her performance on the back nine, and moved up four places in the individual standings after 36 holes.
The score dropping continued for the Cardinals with their other top 20 finisher in Sophomore Brielle Milhoan. She would drop six strokes off her round one score, coming from 92 to an 86. She would also start her day on the back nine and after some trouble early was able to hit three pars over the final five holes. She hit the turn sitting at +10, but was able to steady things out with seven holes to play. She would hit par on three straight holes from hole three to hole five, and added two more pars before the round was over. It was enough to keep her in the top 20 of the event as she heads into day three looking for her highest career finish at a championship event. Equaling Milhoan’s drop from day one to day two was Graci Fairman, who took six strokes off her score to shoot 116. Her success would come on the back nine, where she dropped seven strokes off her score, going from a +27 to a +20. Fairman jumped three spots in the standings, sitting in a tie for 33rd heading into the final round.
Rounding out the third round for the Cardinals was Mallory Bozovich, who shot 134 over the final 18 holes. She would shoot two bogeys on the day, with her best performance coming on the front nine, where she hit +28 to round out the event.
The Wheeling University Women’s Golf team returns to action for day three of the MEC Women’s Golf Championships on Wednesday, October 8th, with tee times beginning at 8 AM.
