Bob Ryan and Gary Tanguay discuss the Celtics’ clutch Game 2 win over the Dallas Mavericks while explaining why Jayson Tatum is being severely disrespected by many members of the media. Their conversation shifts to Dan Hurley’s rejection of the Lakers’ coaching offer, the passing of Chet Walker, and Caitlin Clark being left off the USA Olympic squad.

going to take it got it Boston WIS two legends in basketball analysis with over 70 years combined experience this is the Bob Ryan and Jeff Goodman podcast NBA some college a little bit of everything you know what can I say but it wasn’t going to happen here with him I was okay with it it’s time for the Bob Ryan and Gary tang with pod here on clns media brought to you by prize piic the exclusive daily fantasy partner of clns media pick more pick less it’s that easy with prize picks okay Bob uh little bit later on our friend Jeff Goodman will be joining us but right now you’re the star of the show coming up on the show we’re going to talk obviously about the NBA finals and the Celtics comfortable position or is it chat Walker passed away another great from when I first fell in love with basketball uh Danny Hurley stays at Yukon and Caitlyn Clark Caitlyn Clark gets snubbed so let’s start with the Celtics right now the time of our recording they’re up to zip and I want to start with Jason Tatum because I thought I I think it was Alan Miller our old friend from channel for who put this out on Twitter and he gave Tatum’s offensive numbers throughout his career and through this season and basically what he said was the truth for two games Jason Tatam has struggled offensively two games and he was still uh an assist shy of a triple double so lay off him yeah and he had 12 rebounds and and and uh it’s interesting I thought there was a very interesting uh X came out a couple days ago that uh asked what were we in of a certain age saying about bird when he had some subpar offensive games in the 81 finals where we going after bird the way that people are now going after Tatum and I said No in fact what we did say was uh Larry can beat you in different ways right and I said I cited of course that but for example I had always remember this game gar as a rookie he had a game in Oakland on a Friday night when n and I called it eight bricks in a block and and he had 14 rebounds and they won the game and helped them in that way so uh that was Sun Friday and Sunday we’re in Portland so I’m anxious to see how Larry’s going to respond to the eight bricks on a block well his response was making his first six shots and scoring 33 points in a victory over the jail boers anyway so no we did not attack Larry that way we took we appreciated the scope of Larry’s contributions which is what people should be doing in 2024 with Jason Tatum yes you don’t discount I I said it and it’s getting more and more evident his rebounding is getting to be high level not just rebounds that he ought to get but rebounds that don’t necessarily belong to him he’s rebounding in traffic as well as well as he’s ever done and that’s important and so uh and and you know you don’t poo po 11 assists come on and and I mean it’s silly it’s not you know you just we just have to just laugh at these people that’s all I mean the guy is a wonderful player who can and who’s now proving that he can help you oh as I mentioned defense that he can help you win games in different ways the shot will come he’ll come of course and and and Bob of he’s pressing a little bit it’s obvious fine fine it’s not for whatever Reon like I thought game two he was press like when he goes he missed a couple of layups yeah didn’t finish didn’t finish and by the way though he’s he spoiled us and these people by the extraordinary ability to finish that he displays on most occasions and when everyone’s and now on that game yeah there were two times I remember he got in after making one of his great moves and and and it a little a little heavy and it they came off the rim it didn’t go in but he’s made so many of them and people apparently just took those for granted it ain’t that easy folks the guy can make the game look easier than it really is okay so you know that’s that’s let’s just realize that please yeah I just really I just appreciate Jason Tatum greatly and I wanted to lead with that and I don’t want to take away from any of the other players CU they’re all it’s just so refreshing because it’s a team it’s just so refreshing to see because it is is a team and I’m glad you brought up what on I need to keep saying X instead of Twitter I saw the same uh X or whatever it is now where the the stats were they had Larry stats compared to T and you’re absolutely right you’re absolutely right Steph Curry in the past remember when Andre Iguodala got the MVP yes yes you know and Steph didn’t Steph offensively was struggling or whatever Jason Tatum is pressing a little bit at The Rim he’ll be fine he has become such a complete player and a leader and he has set the tone for this team and he runs you see him running the offense Bob in no remote sense is he a liability let’s just oh God no come God no but it’s just part you know it it the D you it’s part of the world we’re living in the media World we’re living in you know it it you need it’s amateur if you if you think Jason Tatum is struggling as a player like you could say okay the shots offensively he hasn’t the shots struggle fine but if you think he’s struggling overall as a player you don’t know basketball right exactly you don’t I mean so let’s that’s we’ll move on but Jason Tatum you go kid um where do we go now okay now uh of course the MVP conversation starts you know and again it’s on social media and I chimed in because I’m like who’s the MVP I win holiday I mean could be J could be Jaylen Brown it you know it could be Drew holiday you know I don’t know you know who can’t right now I don’t know I don’t care but I but to get us into the holiday conversation I’ll go Drew holiday no Drew holiday would be a very good candidate for the first two games and and absolutely and uh the second game two he played is is you can’t ask for a guard whose reputation was built on offense on defense to come up with a better game than 11 for 14 and and and all those rebounds uh he he’s putting up that’s really funny I mean today in it was pointed out by I think Adam himblack one of them one of our the Boston Globe guys whether it was Gary or Adam or that um uh his numbers are oh it was Chad Finn that’s who it was I think that uh he’s putting up numbers that you associate with centers you know I mean because of the rebounds and and um yeah the he’s been great and his back cour partner has been great but his his shining game was definitely game two uh with one I can’t exaggerate how I’m impressed I am with this back court and how lucky the Celtics are to have a back court like this and uh uh and how lucky we are to have them to watch and and it’s it’s you know what am i g to say you can’t say any more than that we can’t say what do you think of what I did because I didn’t see holiday we didn’t see him play every day right I mean I would see him play I didn’t have a sense of him at all you know I’ll tell you what I appreciate about him and then I’ll I’ll ask ask you what you what the one thing cuz there’s a lot of things in his game what I appreciate about him is his timing to score and he reminds me of DJ a little bit even though I think he’s a better shooter than DJ was you know as well as anybody in the playoffs DJ was clutch and I just see holiday now thinking okay we need a bucket and he has this move underneath the hoop y right that I’m just and I I I he’s doing it every night now you three of those left hand up and unders it’s not don’t not don’t not easy folks and and he makes it look and it’s part it’s just a basic part of his repertoire now he’s a complete player complete offensive player as well as a excellent defensive player um no you’re right that move on the B I was going to cite that move on the Baseline and and U you know guys just this just we just have to keep heaping Praise on this guy well I knew he was good but I didn’t have a vision of his game at all I didn’t really have a sense a feel for him you know that in Milwaukee or elsewhere I did not have that feel but now you know understand what ex me what we were missing and why he was such an important part of a championship team I when I’m listening to sports radio because I’ve been on the other side it’s just so hard right now because there’s very little criticism the Celtic team it’s hard you know I listen to my boys on The Sports Hub my my friends that I can just tell they’re like what you know what am I what am I going to say and it comes down to um uh oh feli and MZ were feli was I laughed I was laughing so hard when they were critical of Joe moula saying uh praising uh oh my God no I just went BL uh praising little guy off the bench um oh God Richard Pritchard geez PR for that that that halfcourt shot yeah you know that the fact that he took it and he didn’t save it for his percentage for the he feel yeah percentage Yeah but but like that’s that’s all anybody has to complain about now what the coach calls the key play of the game you know I was like come on guys it was a very welcome basket at the time think I the timing was good because it was a little bit of but let’s get one thing straight those shots are pure luck okay literally anybody can do it I can tell you that because I made once made one at the end of a first period of a game I made one but and uh it it and that how many feet Bob how many feet was it it was it was they they said 55 when they put it in the in the school year in the school yearbook um um but it it was just on the other you know want about mid Court you know it was basically and uh I don’t think it was 55 I think it was more like 45 or 50 but anyway it was very clutch because it made the score 19 to8 instead of 17 to8 would have been 20 to8 today I it would have been a three you know but anybody that’s those shots but what a timely basket that was I agre I find it interesting that um uh it’s the only three-pointer he’s made that’s one thing that hasn’t happened yet neither he nor Hower has gotten untracked right and there it’s coming folks don’t worry those two one one or both of them are going to find start hitting they prize pick is America’s number one prize picks and so do the star players you get boosted playoffs on selected basketball STS that you won’t find anywhere else now this week on priz picks I’m looking at Jas Tatum more than 26 and a half points Jaylen Brown more than 3 threes which may be aggressive but I’m running with that download that app today and use a code clns for a deposit match up to $100 prize picks pick more pick less it’s that easy so now I get to what I think is a legitimate concern and that’s porzingis yeah yeah he is I think he’s a little gimpy do it matter he’s a r oh it yeah it matters to a degree it it it does matter because of the one one reason is those two big guys in the lobs and and and that’s part of their offense the once you get Beyond donic and Irving the next most important part of their offense basically is is the lobs that they get to to their field goal percentages are ridiculous both of them both Lively and and Gafford because they don’t take shots they don’t take shots they just dunk and they I mean I’m not being only mildly factious when I say that and and that but that’s their game and and donic sets them up you know artfully obviously and uh but with Pingus around it’s a lot harder and and and and the whole scope of their defense changes yeah um they can they can win without him but I it’s gonna be a lot harder to win without him now um I think he’s a rational guy from what we see and I don’t think that and and if he tells us it it isn’t so bad and I’m okay and I’ll be able to play and he’s saying he’s playing a game three I want to trust him that he’s not going to do something stupid you know that that to risk himself knowing that he’s not if he doesn’t play game three and it happen to lose game three is if if if Dallas is gonna win a game it’s gonna be game three right right now although I must say that the Hawks one Once Upon a Time against the Celtics averted The Sweep by winning game four that was that doesn’t happen too often and that but it can happen but usually by the way I’m going right now I’m calling the over under for donic on game three 45 I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets 5050 win or lose I wouldn’t be surprised if he get I agree I agree that’s without porzingis but lot likely you know with with without him anyway it’s not crucial that he play no especially when you have the cushion lead that you’ve got now you don’t want to do anything stupid and I trust that he would not consent to doing something stupid he seems like a very rational person I think if he could just maintain a presence yeah um play conservatively a little bit he he’s he will better so so you know so but anyway just in general terms G the whole thing’s going according to plan you know let’s face it and and uh uh they won uh you know two different games they won a route game and they won a game where they they had this they had to work for it and uh they made the big place when they had to make them and it never got into perilous you know um but that that white block you know was saved you know it saved all that that ended the suspense of whatever was going to be suspense that block ended suspense um so it’s gone very much according to plan I’ll point out to people that however I’ve been there I’ve just been there too many times and I’ve seen G Series in which not only game one but game two was a route go to the hostile territory in game three and we’re coming home tied 22 it’s not inconceivable I remind people that the last time the Celtics won a finals in fewer than six games was 10 championships ago in 1965 the the last nine have been six or seven and and and Dallas you know so it’s not that’s not in don’t be shocked folks if they come home 22 I’m I’m sorry I don’t expect to but I wouldn’t be shocked if it happen espically if Don goes off for you know a couple ridiculous games and then of course if Kyrie UNT trcks himself but um and and he’ll play better I guess but the fact is that he’s playing against the best defensive back court that he’s played against in the playoffs period period yeah so so on the outside looking in I know you went into game one correct I believe with Mr sh yes I um so when you guys went in like did they give you the senior citizen press card did they when you when you walked in I was just thinking like you I Dan and Dan and Bob walking in together that’s like it’s is that that’s like 90 years of Journalism experience well no he was there first I when I walked in uh but he uh I’m serious though like you and sha like let’s okay let’s just pump the brakes I’m gonna go I wanna I I’m gonna I want to pump the brakes and praise my friend oh it’s over um well you know in my case if you count me is still working which I’m not you know I mean oh yeah you are but 55 it’s 55 yeah I mean I Want To Praise My Friends Ryan and shaas so you got two legends I mean he was there before but two legends walking in the building that’s over a hundred years of Boston Sports journalism yes yes it is amazing that’s amazing well I think I’m the only person in the in the local court that get dates to the 60s I don’t did he come in 1960 well I was intern 68 but my first became official beatman in 1969 70 and Sh he came from Baltimore Dan Dan came from Baltimore to when Washington he started out in Baltimore then he went to the Washington star and and when it folded he came to the globe that was and and Dan but Dan I began in Baltimore and then Washington he covered the Orioles with you know he was and I always say he was he he he was so he never he’s never forgiven the Red Sox player teams for not being the Orioles in terms of the personal interaction oh yeah that team the Earl was fun to be with you know he’s he’s a good he’s friendly with Palmer they’re good I don’t say if they’re good but he’s quite friendly with Jim Palmer personally right yeah yeah and uh uh I know that and uh and he looks back with those days covering Orioles with great fondness I can tell you he really it was a great experience for him yeah we should have him on this summer actually we got to get him on and just have you you know what I’m gonna yeah I want to have uh Dan on and I’m gonna he took the torch you know he took the torch from me uh you know when I when I left and and uh uh and then I got it back from him when when he when Peter Gamin left to go back to Sports Illustrated and Dan took over baseball and of course Dan’s written a wonderful book called it I wish it lasted forever about the 85 86 season but I love to kid him that yeah you wrote the book but I finished the job I I picked up the team in February but it’s a wonderful book I recommend it to all you good Celtic fans you really want to get uh it it it I wish it lasted forever which is a direct quote from I believe it was Walton but it was one of the so well we’re going to do a a bob we’re going to get Dan on uh after the finals when things are slow before training camp and I’m just going to talk to you guys so we’re going to do that uh okay so another final thing on the Celtics that I want to talk about as an outside of looking in and my the point I was making is in game one you were there and you’ve been around and you can kind of get a feel for things even though you’re not there every day yeah what impact how do you think this happened internally Bob I mean because you know people could talk about Joe Missoula like just rolling out the basketballs but I’m gonna poo poo that a little bit no Joe Missoula has coached the team first Brad Stevens which is the executive of the decade put this team together but Joe moula has got his star NBA player which in 2024 is really hard to do to become a rebounding specialist an assist guy and a facilitator how do you think this team thing happened he didn’t have to win over Jason Tatum something with they had he had estab impressed Jason Tatum you know in his role prior role as assistant because if you recall the very first per person that offered public endorsement of Joe Missoula on that faithful day of and in 2022 was Jason Tatum he came out immediately about how he thought that this was a that Joe moua you know in the praise of Joe moua so I mean I just technically I mean it’s quite clear that that Joe moua has a good basketball brain I mean he just obviously does and and we’re learning as as we’ve talked about on this show he’s he’s a shy person by nature and and and uh he’s always slowly the layers are being peeled off we’re getting more and more insight into who this guy is you know and and U you know we learned about the martial arts this year we we learned that he’s a soccer fan who got friendly with pep gordola the legendary coach of Man City who came to pay us a visit last week who was president at game one of all the celebrities that they listed and they were the wall of course the wallberg were both there and and on and on and on and on and on and all the alumni and all that the one that jumped out of me holy bleep pep guardal is here I mean to like to some I’m sure some of our listeners viewers appreciate that but most of them don’t but I’m telling you right now this is like I’ll give you an example uh Nick Sabin level in his world he’s he’s he’s at the top of the food chain and in in international soccer okay they’re friends something going on here folks with this guy so um I’m impressed so answer your question I just think he’s got a lot on the ball and he know knows the game and and and and they trust his judgment uh about how to play this game and what to do but I also think it speaks to Tatum’s good heart and willingness to do you know ultimately to to to do the right thing and I think he wants to do the right thing and and I think we’re seeing clear evidence of that so well uh I have been prone to exaggeration uh but you know we we’ll see how the rest of the career goes but this type of coaching or mentoring is what we have praised red arback and Phil Jackson for yeah dealing with personalities not just as the ex and know right and clearly uh you know now Brad has provide Brad and Danny and Brad together you know we got Danny and you know Brad and excuse me Jason and Jason and jayen are Danny’s Legacy okay Al’s Danny’s Legacy as well was brought back by Brad uh okay and now the uh the back court is is Brad’s Legacy you know and uh and but uh so it’s a combination of the two but they they they have given him easy people to work with they have I mean person that that I I mean it was difficult because of the nature everything about him was and there was pros and cons and yin and yang and that was Market smart I mean I was a pro I led Market smart but I acknowledged his spbl and I said you gotta live with the whole package you know but there’s no year but who there’s not a year but guy look at porzingis he comes in he’s he’s a model teammate and loves what he’s doing loves these guys loves the game me there’s no the first eight guys said man I don’t know you know and I’m assuming that goes that there not that cornet’s is a team guy I’m assuming that Tillman’s a team guy uh that was set you know there’s no yeah but people that we know of on this you know deviant of all no no no sources of Discord guys so you know they they’ve scouted their people now I’m sure they would tell you we’d like to vet people and you know but you don’t always guess right but uh they’ve guessed right and and they’ve got good people who happen to be very good basketball players on this team that’s the ideal circumstance game time makes getting little bit of uh the Bob ran tangu podcast I remember the passing of chat Walker we we’re discussing now my memory of the Chicago Bulls when Bob was on the beat is when I started watching basketball the first real season I remember as I was 10 years old back in good old uh Rumford Mexico Maine you know was at 74 Celtic team so I remember the Bulls in Chad love um I mean chat Walker Bob love uh Norman van leer Jerry Sloan Jerry Sloan dick Ma I remember ma as the coach am I right yes M was the coach was was Bob uh was um uh there was another there was was there another love on the bull who happen to be the brother of Mike Love Of The Beach Boys no that’s Stan he played for the for the bullets he played for the bullets he he’s he’s a member of the family yeah he he was and and he’s U he’s Kevin’s father and Kevin’s father right thank you okay so he wasn’t on that team as well if any comprehensive history of the NBA is written by anybody it must include if not a chapter a very substantial uh look at those Bulls team of the early 70s which I believe may very well be the best group that never won a championship right had there been no 24 second clock I’m not being factious they would have won one or more championships they were the best possession team uh with a meticulous offense that was a forward oriented offense because of the great forward scoring of Bob love and and Walker with what the toughest minded and physical back back tough back court I’ve ever seen in the NBA Jerry Sloan and J nor van leer and an underrated Center and Tom bowinkle who was not only once had a 30 some odd rebound game but was an excellent passer in fact on the next level after the Walton jokic we draw a line on right there on the greatest passing centers and now the next tier which includes Johnny Kerr and and a few other boy Winkle is on that is in that that okay those teams they did what they did they ran Precision offense they ex they they exhausted the 24 second clock they want and they’re the pace of the game and when you played them and I love I love the whole atmosphere I’ll get to the Chicago stadium in a minute but when the Celtics would play them it was a battle of which team’s will will be imposed on the other will the Bulls be able to stop the Celtics who wanted to run from running or will the Celtics be able to to speed speed up the Bulls and make them get into a running game they don’t want to get into and it was a battle of wills and it was it was fascinating and Dick ma was one of the most intriguing guys I’ve ever known in the NBA a fascinating guy who background started coaching Junior High by the way and then he had all the whole progression Junior High Junior College college at Weber State and then he was surprise surprise Higher by the Bulls uh uh to to be the the coach when at a point when time when the colle coaches were just starting to get a shot at the NBA right and and was a fascinating guy uh and and I I I firmly believe uh belongs in the Hall of Fame uh he went I’m surprised he isn’t he went from there you know he’s got a losing record because of the Dallas teams that he coached at in the beginning but he coached them up into something respectable he he and then he went to Sacramento that was a mistake he he last he stayed around too long okay but in his Prim he he coached bullets to the championship in 78 and went to the finals in 79 with them okay so he’s got a ring and and he he he launched the the Mavericks he was their first coach and and and he gave them some respectability uh absolutely he did uh he belongs in the Hall of Fame fascinating guy but those Bulls teams were intriguing all right Chad Walker uh when you talk to anybody from that era you know any of us who covered him what you and say give me what you remember it’s a Chet Walker it comes it always starts with this thing up fake the greatest up Faker ever the Gest most the patient up Faker ever I used to scream each he should get caught for three seconds and the you know because by the time he gets done with the up bakes but he was an excellent offensive player excellent forward by the way Gary plays a role in Celtic history yes look at that look folks the look on his face he was the intended target that John H intercepted the passport no kidding it was John it was chat Walker was the intend was the target of the pass that John stole deflected and uh that was that’s so he’s plays a important minor role in Celtic history only Bob Ryan would know that because everybody talks about how Greer how Greer Hower it gets it out you can hear I can still hear Johnny Johnny it gets it out the and H Texs it well the guy that he he steals it from was Chad Walker wow he was everybody wondered how they were going to play that you know and what are they going to do they’re goingon to lob The Wil they’re gonna well the idea was Walker would get the ball and hopefully if he missed they had uh Chamberlain uh and kerr were both on the floor at the same time which they seldom did and and Luke Jackson they were all they were going to crash the boards and and hopefully get a put back but anyway Chad Walker is part of Celtic history a just a wonderfully efficient offensive player and I did not know did you know about his film producing career I did not wow you know and he produced that film about Isaiah Thomas’s mom uh the mother of 10 and and out of the ghetto you know youngest of nine or 10 you know Isaiah Thomas the original Isaiah Thomas oh yeah yeah yeah but there’s a documentary that CH produced about about his mom and and he also but he had Hollywood Connections afterward and U so anyway um but those Bulls teams were and and the Chicago Stadium it’s it’s my all-time favorite visiting Arena was the Chicago Stadium everything about it was grandiose including a theater organ uh that uh you know which was just it was just wonderful and and the crowds are great I just loved going there it was but those team those teams were so much such an intriguing team you know and Sloan and Van leer I mean I’ll tell you about Jerry Sloan quickly as sure the thing that would infuriate people is that Jerry Sloan was a Rarity he was he took charges he would stand in front of a Mac Truck to take a charge he also was as Johnny mus would say stanislowski is here tonight he was an expert Flopper as well as a gutsy guy standing in front of a a Mac Truck so he would get you both ways which he was a Flopper before it became fashionable absolutely I remember a game he he John hav was called for an offensive foul a crucial moment late in the game and what happened was Sloan had a technique that he grabbed Jon and pulled him down over him and and the referee fell for it and get and called the offensive F John but Sloan was a character I interesting guy very very inter oh man I mean he was coaching in Utah lived in a hotel room yeah and and that was Frank Laden oh that was Laden that wasn’t SLO no Sloan was he was a hard-nosed guy you know very but very good coach but you know he he he he slowed the game down as a coach completely as he it was taught by dick M you know but I think it was natural for him I mean Chicago Bob Chicago has to be right up there well Milwaukee there was one bar but Chicago has to be the best visiting City for for h bars that’s a good one of course you you got to go to the billy goat if you don’t go to yeah yeah yeah of course you gotta go I mean the billy goats are for those that don’t know the billy goat explain the billy goat is the the source of the John Belushi’s famous cheap Burger cheap Burger okay it’s about the billy goat and it’s a it’s a Subterranean bar still exists right there today as you are down Michigan a you you have to go down a few blocks south of the Marriott you you uh you you descend a staircase and and there’s the billy goat because Chicago has this extensive underground of people haven’t been there there’s a whole underground world right and and um that’s it’s part of it um you know they do have the cheap Burgers they got the you know but it’s it’s it was and it’s Heyday was a bar for journalists and all these clippings of of of columnist and pictures of of famous columnist and of course Mike Roo and and Company uh it’s it’s it’s Chicago to Max and you know you go there you you’re gonna get your white soxer cubs game on the TV you’re gonna you gotta go there folks I’m telling you go to if you don’t know you you anybody in Chicago they’ll direct it to the billy goat so you got to go there I love Chicago so do I future homework assignment for Bob Bryant top five bars on the beat top five maybe maybe we get Shan Aion will do that with you top five bars in the beat all right that was a good one yeah all right those one one I loved in Denver was Duffy and and Duffy passed the test they had the baseball encyclopedia up up on the shelf and oh wow well that’s that’s that’s all you need question there was the origin runion in New York the the late lamented runion was was you know two chores was two chores on that list uh without I’m too late for to chores to I’m too late that was the old you know that in the 40s 50s 60s yeah the original and had go that was everything from Sinatra to Jackie gon to Leo de Roser to Joe de magio to you know that I I I would wouldn’t you love to go back to oh my God I I never I never got to go to toot Shores wow okay homework assignment for the Shany show okay so now Danny Hurley has turned down a s reportedly $70 million offer or whatever from the Lakers uh we did look it up he makes $38 million no $32 million he signed a $32 million deal in 2023 for six years with Yukon so he’s staying at Yukon what do you think about this well we don’t know the reason frankly you know we don’t know whether it’s because he just could not pass up an opportunity to get the win three in a row and put himself up there with you know the only person that’s ever done that is John Wooden and in college anal uh or that something in the end told him this maybe is not the proper time move the Lakers at the moment on the team I want I don’t do I want to deal with a with a potentially deteriorating LeBron and know what that might mean or or we don’t know what he I don’t know just I’m just on to out there does his wife not want to move that can happen I don’t know I don’t know but it’s that’s a conceivable reason I don’t know um just’s G to you know have enough to put groceries on the table as it is she won’t need nobody’s starving right I don’t know uh he he he and the other thing is this he’s it’s not as if this is his only opportunity the boat is pulled up to the dock he he didn’t get on it another boat will pull up he’s 51 years old he’s got lots of shelf life left and and so and we’re told that he’s always had admitted to people that I got NBA on my you know brain I I wouldn’t mind challenging myself at the highest level and all that and I think he might want to but but uh maybe just he couldn’t resist the team he’s got come coming in and what I think is I’m trying to gather the pieces yeah I think it’s all of the above I think what has a lot to do it is the East Coast because I’ve heard he’s really you know I I heard that um he was interested in the Nets job at one point and you’re thinking what my God you you take the Nets over the Lakers and well yeah because it’s in Brooklyn you know it’s it’s home you know and I think the family is a big part yeah I mean it’s it’s down the road um I also think that and Danny has been very open about this where he went through some depression in college yeah happiness matters you know and we all forget it I mean that’s yeah I remember that now that’s an excellent point uh you it it’s but I do think ultimately the fact that it’s not his one and only shot at it oh God no yeah at all at 51 and and and he will so he’s he loves circumstance he yeah but we we don’t know for sure and then he hasn’t articulated it I’m I don’t know whether he’s you know to publicly yet and whether he will or not we don’t know but what the only thing we do know and Jeff will certainly verify and Jeff will tell us chapter and verse who these guys are you know I ask him about you know you know he’s got a team coming back that is consensus top five right now in people and U and certainly when if you’re that good then you know get into the tournament and see what happens well you got the transport portal now so guys going to want to play for him I mean it’s like free agency yeah oh I know it’s like everybody wants to play for the Yankees you know I mean it is yeah I know I I know I know said whoever would have thought 30 years ago you stores Connecticut would be this destination but this we thank coun coun you know in terms of the males and of course Andino but the two of them think about it you know soures Connecticut I mean all these meca and yeah you know and and there is no stores really it’s a mailing address it’s basically Madison you know right so this Hardy really isn’t a real stor you know it’s just a I know if I always love that part I was just thinking uh is Larry Brown the only coach that made the transition successfully still well he certainly did make it u i mean Brad did okay Brad did okay Brad you know oh yeah no Brad did okay it’s it’s it’s hard I’m trying to think off the top of my head uh uh well going going way back but he had he had an intervening um role as general manager Dr Jack Ramsey went from head coach at St Joe’s after decade of great success to become the general manager of the 76ers he was the general manager of that team in they won in ‘ 67 and and then later became a a successful coach with more than one team in the Portland tril and won the championship in Portland but he was a good coach in Buffalo got them off the ground and so Dr Jack uh but he did have that transition of being the GM to get a sense of the NBA if that counts but I would nominate him as as the most successful yeah that’s I’m glad berov didn’t get a championship but he had you know he got to the finals he he was the losing coach of course in 69 to the Celtics you know the famous game where he wouldn’t put Wilt back in you know right and I but he was and he coached several teams and and with some he get a good job in Detroit he he he launched the Jazz um anyway Butch van BR off uh John McLoud didn’t win a championship but he Wason Fitz Simmons there’s that whole crop that came in and that’s of time in which uh part of which M was part of that in the late uh in the late in the late 60s early 70s it became kind of a thing to hire to try these college guys and and so so some of them had some good success but the only one that ever won a championship uh and in that group was was uh Ramsay uh although you point out Larry Brown later Larry Brown’s extraordinary figure in in in basketball he’s still coaching some I mean he still the last time I knew he was an assistant some yeah I know he said he always said he would coach high school and and no no one doubted him and oh no question you know I mean it’s interesting people are coaching High School including Michael Cooper right now but uh uh so but uh yeah it’s it’s it’s the league because the league has Chang in the nature of the people has changed over the years it’s making harder John beine John beine was complete flop he was it was he was just too old it was too late for him right thought he was a great college coach but it didn’t work at all and uh uh it it it’s it’s it’s the best move sheski never made was taking that Lakers job oh yeah yeah no thank you very much you know that was the best and as we wrap things up Caitlyn Clark snub with the Olympic team no not really first of all there’s so many I think one of the things that that the people have are learning now because of the attention that’s been focused on the league is how many excellent players there have been and are that deserve no no accommodation well I saw it on tele I think I was watching ESPN and they ran down team and I went wow that they’re load who you going to knock off yeah I know you’re not she or you know she’s a phenomenon she’s a she’s a rock star she’s a you know public knows who she is she’s popular and you b c out to that at the expense of of fairness to legitimate stop players who should be who you know paid their dues and should be on this team particularly when she’s 22 years old and she’ll be on the 2018 you know boring injury and and uh you know it’s not her Birthright to be in the Olympics it’s it’s I I’m sorry she did the right thing she car she’s taking a public high road which she really feels I don’t know but she’s as usual she’s very good and public taking a public high road I say no this is I applaud them for resisting any impulse could with her presence of somehow enable them to sell more jackets and jerseys and you know and sneakers and probably but U they resisted that good for them agreed they did the right thing and she took the high road okay Bob get on my list uh coming up after the NBA Finals we’re going to get the Ryan shaas SE Memory Lane I can’t wait for that uh we have exclusive daily fantasy partner of clns media pick more pick less it’s that easy with prize picks Bob I’ll talk to you next time with Goodman okay 1. With KP probably out till at least game 5 this is Tatums chance to get going Offensively. He’s been doing everything else well and is due to go off. Let’s hope he brings the focus and produces Efficient shooting games in Dallas, if he does that we should win comfortably.

  2. Jason diva has played 8 nba finals games and he has the lowest f.g. pct. For amount of shots taken. Not big deal for a defensive player. But for 30 million dollars per yr. Its horrible!!! 30 million dollars for a bricklayer is not acceptable !!!

  3. Then when Tatum has great shooting nights, nobody will say a word or give him his credit. It's just that people don't like Tatum for some reason. That's all it is. We all know this is how it goes. He starts out shooting poorly almost every round and gets it going in game 3's and then takes off. But when that happens, watch and see what happens. They WILL NOT give him any credit.

  4. Well Tatum likes game 3's so I believe he's going to have a good scoring game as well as everything else. We'll see but I trust him.

  5. The Celtics are going to be fine if Luka has a 30+ points triple double, since they have beaten the Mavericks every time that he has done that this year, and the first game of the series he had 30+ points but not a triple double.
KP is a phenomenal player, and we are grateful to Brad Stevens for bringing him to the Celtics, however, Cs are 30-5 without him (9-1 in playoffs) and although he basically won the first game the Cs only used him for 33% of the game time over 2 games.
It is going to be tough, but if it was easy everyone could do it.
