Dallas, Texas — The Rice Men’s Golf team made a charge on Moving Day, firing a school record 15-under par to sit in second-place the Trinity Forest Invitational.
The round surpassed the previous best of -14 set at the 2010 Border Olympics and tied at last year’s Bayou City Collegiate Classic. Its 36-hole score of 555 is also the second-lowest in school history. The Owls are in second-place at -21 heading into tomorrow’s final round, two strokes behind leader South Alabama.
Senior Lukas Boandl fired his second straight 66 to tie for the individual lead at -12 with Louisiana’s Malan Potgeiter after carding a bogey-free round.
He started the day with two straight birdies before recording pars on the final seven holes of the front nine. He started the back nine with a birdie. After two straight pars, he recorded back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14. He then birdied the 17th before closing the round with a par.
The 66 is his fifth round of par or better this year, and the 19th of his career, passing Raghav Chugh for the most in school history. It’s also his team leading 10th round of par or better this year, and the 48th of his career.
Redshirt junior Henry Daly is tied for 16th-place at -4 after carding a 69. It is his ninth round of par or better this year and the 16th of his career. It is also his third round in the 60’s this year and the eighth in his career.
Sophomore Daniel Zou tied his season-low round with a 68 to sit at -3 in a tie for 22nd-place. It is his seventh round of par or better this year and the 28th of his career. It is also his third round in the 60’s and the 12th of his career.
Junior Reggie Zhu bettered his round from yesterday, carding a 70 to sit in a tie for 25th-place at -2. It’s his sixth round of par or better this year and the 25th of his career.
Sophomore William Johnson, playing as an individual, and freshman Raines Watson are tied for 84th-place at +10. Watson posted a 76, while Johnson shot a 77.
