yeah right what are we doing today then son getting you flushing yeah if we get a good understanding like maybe addressing that full problem like what I know in the back swing it was kind of like that yeah do a bit of that today um but I think actually just addressing it fully and just set like I don’t know if there something that’s causing me to do that as well let’s just go through like a normal lessons if I don’t know you I’ve never seen you before and let’s just talk from the from the from the base get get a couple of videos let me look at it how I would see it as if I hadn’t already been swayed cuz I’ve obviously come in with a few preconceived ideas today um but like M even just one video like you sent me that one video I was pumping up with fuel as I watched it and I straight away I could see it I was like I was like losing height so if you pull with your right arm you’ll generally go this way to some degree if you if you’re kind of like pushing with the left arm you it’s easier to keep height yeah so that’s number one I even go like this yeah and just that’s that’s me like fully let well that’s almost like the drill I had in mind for you today was like a variation of Step drill but what we’re going to do is we’re going to do like um what I call a what would be a way of of explaining it it would be like a straight leg step is what I call it so basically what you’re actually doing is you’re fully actually lifting your leg up so you’re almost going to be doing more of this look so you’ll go here like normal but then you’ll go up on so it’s like off in here so it’s like a lot of this so that what you’ll do is you’ll line up straight but you’ll be doing it more here as opposed to kind of or that kind of stuff and all all it is mate is the thoughts have obviously made a difference already but then what we got to do is we got to put a couple of things in there that you can do daily just to warm up just to kind of compound those things and then all of a sudden you you work in the studio will start to just get mint mint mint mint mint and then this will just gradually work up with it what’s crazy as well I’ve been doing a lot of stuff I’ve seen you could post that’s already help you a lot we should be recording this he oh sound good oh good but um I think I can see that there’s more room do you know what I mean I can see I I can see that there’s like there’s still another level to what I’m doing yeah yeah but but like you said though but that’s because you see this a lot um there’s obviously been a lot of people watching the content recently and it’s like they go out and do it by themselves and you’re already seeing people messaging me going hitting the ball better than I ever have D and the reason is is cu you’re starting to get some sort of motion but the the big thing we got to do now is you’ve then got to start layering it up for you and and that’s the big thing so like him Beyond can be doing whatever he wants to do the thing is they’re not your drills and he’s coming from a different place to you he’s been working on very different things to what you had before you came in I think as well like just looking at my swing I’ve noticed the right arm was here yeah and as time’s gone on I don’t know whe just by doing left arm only or what you know structure my right arm and I’ve not even tried to do no and that’s the issue mate like when you look at a lot of coaching in my opinion they try and take away and what I mean by that is is you can be dragging your right elbow behind you they can go let’s not do that let’s keep the right elbow more here the problem is is you’re not dealing with the root cause of it just kind of artificially trying to change something whereas by me getting you to do more left arm stuff it’s actually giving you the solution and the thing that actually needs to start taking over yeah so it’s kind of like and and you see that a lot don’t you it’s like oh you’re uh you’re swaying too much so then they just stop you from swaying the problem is the body at that point wants to move so you’ve got to not take it away you got to use it the right way do you know what I mean and and that’s why that’s my kind of take on it anyway but yeah so what we’ll do to start off with mate we’ll hit a few balls have a little look at what’s going on listen to it watch it then we’ll get some drills going and then we’ll and then hopefully by the end of it we’ll be in a better place there you go obviously outside conditions this is why I love the Sim like I go in my sim and it’s perfect condition yeah yeah no win no nothing I find even if I have like good ball and it’s blowing 20 yeah stop stop fighting it yeah yeah the thing is what you got to remember is that’s why I always talk through three things it’s like strike start line those two are the most important because the thing is today if it if it moves 40 yards left to right we’re not stupid enough to know that it’s not the wind do you know what I mean so we don’t need to fight it cuz we’re not saying to you we’re not looking out here and going right Josh I want you to finish it here we’re saying right start it here yeah hit a couple if it’s moving 20 I do that a lot with puton as well M you know with the um the you know for like a start line drill I would just put a random CH line down on the green two T’s for the ball start for whether I want the ball to start and I just literally hit 10 foot putts watch where it goes to and then I put my ghost hole where they’re finishing so that I’m not manipulating it to Hole I’m just rolling it down the line and I know where it’s going to finish I do that a lot um Jamie Donaldson taught me that one yeah it was just like it just cuz a lot of the time it’ll put it’ll put a Target there and then before you know it you’re you’re trying to like pull it onto the Target or whereas if you just hit the part and just let it go where it’s supposed to go yeah what just just whack a few I’m just probably going to watch you hit like I probably need to watch you hit like three or four if I’m honest but we’ll we’ll call it six or eight yeah yeah the scores were scores were pretty solid mate to be you first time in my life boy so like long game a lot great 39 I hit it really good yeah the good thing is though you start building up that long game and then all of a sudden you can dedicate a bit more time to it and yeah start sharpening up the bits that matter to scoring then the thing is to be able to even start scoring you got to hit the ball decent and then from there then then it’s a matter of like right now we’ve got to now now we can start sharpening up the things that actually matter to score I find as well like weird you start now you’ve got a lot more it’s a lot more pressure on it isn’t it yeah when they’re for double Bogies you don’t matter good yeah yeah that’s again why um like putts per round is kind of invalid really yeah it’s just completely irrelevant interesting already I’ve seen a couple of things that I had obviously this the first time I probably watched you hit balls isn’t it right let me just uh let me get a couple of videos mate right you ready go ahead [Music] let me get one from here as well bud right you ready mate go ahead it’s like because you’re trying to rotate it just looks so slow right do you know what I mean even though you hit it a good whack I was getting like I was getting scared like you know like this like whole like front yeah on the like finess shots yeah I get scared like it depends how you want to do it like the thing is is I very often to take speed out I’ll grip down but I’ll still do that but then there’s other times where I might decide to just stay a bit more and just it depends how far it is mate like like wind the conditions I find myself like like say it’s like a 125 or 130 I like a n but I just be like thing is though you got to think about on a shot like that it’s like what are you trying to achieve by knocking it down it’s like you’re trying to flatten the ball flight out a it so to do that the easiest way to flatten a golf ball out is through your geometry so the thing is you always got to remember people often ask me like what do you do with wedges and it’s if I’m honest inside of like 70 yards I use more of like a short game wedge swing when I cuz there’s obviously not as much time to reenter so like inside of 50 yards for example I’ll almost get my move down and in early a bit like um yeah yeah I get on it early with a short game shot but that’s like more down the you know kind of like when you watch like Joe Mayo yeah so I do a lot of that with chipping so I I do a lot of like I move left in my back swing but obviously as soon as you get to a full like uh I don’t know say I start getting to 80 yards plus with a lob wedge I’ll move into my for swing stuff um yeah exactly but that’s understanding that there’s a difference between a chip a pitch and a full swing they’re all very different techniques um whereas a lot of people will go in go for a lesson they’ll get taught a pitching technique then they’ve got a 10 yard chip that all they’ve literally got to do is just bunt it down the green and they’re like going like this to try and hit it and it’s like but it’s understanding like you’ve got different shots exactly yeah and even in the long game like we talked recently about driver driver isn’t necessarily 100% of what you’re being taught today it kind of changes up a little bit um in regards to the percentage in which you move and do you know I mean and we found with Brandon that like we were talking when we were in Miami of like I’ve just got to accept I’m going to win it a bit flat for a while and just get the equipment to fit that because the problem was cuz he’s trying to launch driver more he’s getting around it and hitting up on it more then he starts losing his iron swing what I mean so it’s just yeah they’re all a little bit different exactly mate yeah but when you look at this I think the biggest image that I’ve got to that I’ve got to fix is like you see this one here you see how shut and stuck you are inside so like it’s very it’s very kind of like this on the way down it’s very like this way I think if we can get you working a little bit more like that way on the way down as well that’ll just free you up to release the club a little bit easier yeah cuz that’s why you see one thing I said about you and Brandon I find you two go or like you guys go up and out of it whereas like I don’t I feel like I go like almost like that and I’m like I never go out if you look from if you look from down yeah but that’s because you’re just trying to work on a rotational plane constantly what what I noticed from here is see how you start to sit and get around way too early so you start to sit this way too much you sit that way too much so like whereas we’re almost going like this the thing is then yeah and if you think about getting out of it you’ve got to have enough pressure in your lead toe so if you’re not pushing so there’s three ways I can move laterally I can move like that I can move like this which is what you’re essentially doing at the moment or you can move this way and the only reaction to that is going to be to rebound back and up yeah does that make sense so whereas if you’re start if you imagine you start to go this way the only way you’re going to keep going is like that does that make sense so a couple of things that we can do for you today in my opinion is we’ll we will compound a little bit of the um we’ll do a little bit of the height thing cuz we know that’s a problem um and then what we’ll do is we’ll get you a couple of things here just to help you start moving in the right direction because that to me is just almost you sit on it and what I mean by sit on it is you just go it’s like this then the problem then is because it starts getting out like this way you then pull your arms behind you that’s what gets you under and then you’re kind of chasing it out on the way out a little bit Yeah you release the wrong way and a couple of the strikes the thing that you know that as well the couple that you have missed is it was heavy so then what you did to combat that you started spinning earlier which we don’t want that to be the solution we want you to get strike through literally just going bang right bang like that so what we’ll do is we’ll do a couple of little things on the towels first let me go grab a towel because we’ve got a few over here and then we’ll go from there initially just going to grab like an 8 iron or a n iron whatever um and then what we’re going to do is like a variation on the step drill so for you because we know that like when you’re in Spain you wanted to a lot of people like you know when they’ve got clubs across their chests you’ll notice they do a lot of like pointing it down at the ball the thing the thing with the problem with that is is like when I talk about things in motion you got to think like what’s the reaction to what you’re doing so if I if I point that down the problem is that I’m less likely to want to move this way what’s going to happen is because I’m down and I’m on top of it I’m then generally going to want to start dropping under um so what we try and feel as we do this is we’re always trying to feel like we’re kind of maintaining height more and almost a bit of a shallower shoulder turn so then we can move into that Tilt at the right time most people get into it far too early so what we’re going to do we’re going to go step off but then as you step this way and the club starts kind of loading you’re then just going to lift this left leg up a little bit so you’re going to completely unweight your left side and then what that’s then going to do is is then you can replant it this way stop and then hit forward I do sometimes yeah the problem with me is is that like obviously we all have our own issues and tendencies and mine’s always been that I tend to do a pretty similar to you but I get really steep in playing so I I tend to kind of sit back and go this way but I also get I get under and I pull quite a lot so then I get quite steep so for me i’ I’ve just always spend so much time almost kind of Staggering things a bit more this way trying to get me to feel more of that so that I can then get over it a little bit more a good way doing it I fade it that’s bad that for me is probably the way I want to go well I’m going to give you two um Step drills today and they’re both going to be ones that you’ve probably not seen before but they’re both kind of ones for you so we’re going to do one that’s going to help you stay tall and unweight and then the second one’s going to be to reshape your golf swing yeah so there’s there’s a drill I’ll show you in a minute on the second one but we’ll get to that a little bit later on but all you’re going to do you’re going to start out here you’re going to step back up plant so it’s like this then hit it at the end yeah the timing of it is quite difficult you’ve actually got to completely unweight and you’ve got to get the left off the ground are you starting with your feet Clos together uh it depends mate again that’s individual to everyone some people get like some people do big steps and then they look ridiculous so it’s just down to how big you step I I’ll figure that out within one go that’s it but then like when you’re doing it like let’s actually let’s do it it’s not Fanny about notic when I slow down whack it that’s the whole point of it thing is to brace to get this you’ve got to yeah so literally but I want you to do it like this I want you to go step off up plant stop then whack it yeah cuz I’m just want you to get the feel of it so Step Up Up stop see see what what we’re seeing now is something really cool so you’ll notice just there where did you lift where where was your leverage point in your step you went like this yeah when I’m doing it look how I do it I’m lifting from my pelvis you so you think about it we’re looking for height yeah if I lift up from my pelvis like this I’m probably only going to be able to lift that foot off the ground maybe two inches two in I wonder why I thought anyway so like so literally up and then and then I replant vertical whereas if you start going like this you can still go under and you can still rotate a little bit as well so what I want it to feel like is that you’re almost kind of lifting more from like here as opposed to that point just there so good little step up and down that’s it then go then just hit it’s even that though mate whack it well I don’t even know what that was I was like this yeah let’s let’s not hit any of those let’s whack it cuz I want you to feel that leverage so up and stop go there you go almost that was almost a rep 2/3 of the way there thing is mate you got to think about it like a car like if you’re if you’re not hitting it you you know you talk about that posting up the posting up is a break it’s like an ABS breaking system so if you’re driving at 10 mph you don’t need to put it on deer if you’re driving at 80 you got to slam it on so if you want to post up you got to with it harder so again little step off me lift up good in good beautiful nice and then you talk about being centered this drill is also really good for like less lateral it’s also good for just kind of this is more of like a you know I talk a lot about rotation lateral and vertical this is also a mega one for the vertical element of it yeah which is kind of what you need because you’ve been working so this way everything’s like two around so we’re getting a bit of both with this you know the down bad if it’s in the down swing no that’s what we want we want it in the down swing so then you you either spin out of it or you come under so the problem is a reaction to this like if you think about it logically if I go like this in in the back swing the only way out of that is two ways I can go this way which is what you tend to find in higher handicaps big banana slices or what you’ll tend to find in like a pro or or a lower handicap is they start to go this way more you know people talk about early extension that’s basically what early extension is they’re coming up and out so if we can keep you up we then work into the Tilt and then that also gets a little bit more of you know when people put chairs behind their bums and stuff so like what this actually does naturally is it gets you getting more into like that angle yeah which is really important again we just want to find the ground mate it’s all it is safely finding the ground so again little up good again pause at the top just so that it gives you the chance to feel the height and the am staying taller yeah of course well if you stepping up you got to be a you let me just get a little video of this for you so you can see it right you ready go ahead so step up good and that to you probably feels like you’re literally it probably feels to you like you’re literally going doesn’t even look like you’ve moved look at this but you know we talk about height see how much better that is oh yeah then then look at the geometry in the in the move in so you see how you go up and then you move down yes up that’s completely different down yeah it’s completely different yeah yeah but that’s why that drill is like money for you line way better than what you were doing like you were so like just thinking about it like if you’re I mean the way you’re setting like that back thing yeah like you really can’t do anything else other than something bad on the down if it’s there I can’t I can’t do anything else but go that way or come up that way exactly yeah it’s the only two things you can do and the thing is mate golf’s so reactive and this is why I always say if you’re going to fix something fix it in motion because then all of a sudden you can you it’s going to be more relatable to the minute you get out in the golf course like I could quite easily say to you from here oh yeah think like this and then the problem is then you get on the golf course motion wants to kick in your natural motions to go like this it’s straight back I mean no matter how many reps you do inside of trying to make it look different on a mirror soon as you add motion and speed back into it straight back to normal whereas what you’re doing here you’re moving at full speed you know what I mean and it’s like learning how to do it within that full speed yeah so good step off for me up in go hit it harder mate like whack it people are always so obsessed with what it looks like on a ball the thing is mate like what I worked out is you get these to look perfect and you do them every day your feels improve so much that even if the swing visually doesn’t change his 10% your performance can go like yeah absolutely and that’s what you’re seeing with like what you said earlier about about people trying them even though they’re not doing them right cuz feels are changing they all of a sudden start flushing it you know what I mean and then all of a sudden then you tighten that up to actually what you should be doing yeah because essentially it’s not got to look different feeling wise and maybe wait you got to move it half a frame that back swing as well like although it looks like here there is a big difference between here and BR like course is massive and it’s probably on a camera it’s probably this yeah whereas that is huge it but it’s not huge in look it’s huge in feel like you can look that much different in the back swing it can feel like this which is why we over feel everything in the drills so like when I talk about getting off it I’m not talking like do I want people to look like this who none of my players look like that but that’s how it possibly feels to some people because that’s when you’ve been so left-sided this much movement off of it can feel like yeah exactly it’s like when people ask me questions they’re like oh my head’s moving off loads in the drills like that’s fine in the drill when you get on a ball don’t move at all benefit it’s still moving left exactly yeah but that’s the whole like feel versus real thing again isn’t it yeah it is mate yeah so little step off straight up and plant it then hit hard good Let it go you know what I mean yeah whereas like me actually make a lot of cuts but like my first round scoring yeah that’s think hit nice that’s it St huh you broke club nah no nah uh I will say this though Jake burnage last year played at frilford yeah and he sent me a video and he’s like sent the first ones with a seven iron and then for some reason he tried to practice it with his driving iron graphite sharp and I’ve said why in Earth have you used like a300 Oban graphite shaft it’s literally mate he just held it up and it’s just gone yeah so quick note don’t ever do it with graphite shafts you all you’re working on is your movement a nine with a steel shaft is fine you don’t need might need to get some sh just get an old one yeah that’ll be all right that you’ll be fine mate you a’t in it hard enough to have to worry about in go beautiful that’s it yeah no you m I’ve been doing them for years I’ve been launching clubs down the range and all sort yeah they’re fine yeah I can start to feel I felt on that one I felt myself actually want to go this way up you will do yeah and the thing is M over time what happens is the more reps you do obviously the more then your body starts going oh this feels different yeah give that a bit of a go yeah good nice mate beautiful right should we um should we get into so that’s the one we’re going to use for the height side of it should we do the one that we’re going to use for the plane side of it that we saw or the or the shape side of it so what we’re going to do we’re going to stagger I don’t know if sh even I can’t sh yeah yeah so what we’re GNA do with this one if you think about your move in if you want to sit back and around this way I’m just G to make you go into your toone and make you go this way so what you’re going to do is I don’t know if this I don’t know I don’t know if I’ll give this so yeah so all you’re gonna do mate you’re basically gonna go you’re gonna step back stop and then what you’re actually G to do instead of kind of not stepping in at all this is kind of like a play on a a double step drill so a double step drill would be like on a straight line you’d step back stop step in and then hit that way what we’re going to do is we’re going to stagger the Second Step so you’re actually going to step towards tow so what you’re going to do is you’re to stand a little bit further away from it you’re going to go back back stop step and then hit because earlier on you know I was talking about the way that the foot moves the thing is if you’re stepping that way you can’t do it wrong you’re gonna go into your to and you’re GNA rebound up yeah you have to you got noice so this is just kind of like what we’re building in here is we’re building in thoughts that completely move your way from an actual pattern so You’ got two drop that you can just do at home when you’re check up how they’re going on make sure that they done right and what we’ll then do is we’ll kind of move both of them back into a golf ball and then we’ll just hit some at the end but this one here is quite difficult to do on the ball so what you actually have to do this thing because all I’m Essen trying to create is like this angle for you because you want to go that way I’m trying to create more like of this for you so that you can get back on top of it a bit safer so yeah let’s have a little go at that one yeah a little bit further away than you normally would J so you’re going to go to the top of your back going stop and again for you uh yeah yeah you’re still going to step but you know for you as well you know because we know you like to drag with your right arm if you start with a club out in front that’ll just allow your left arm to lead a little bit more that’s it because that’ll just get you pushing more from your left side good there you go you get more you you get a bit more momentum in the club head so little step throw it back stop then you’re going to step towards the towel and hit it you go but you’re going to do that like the stepping and whack is going to be in one go yeah because the thing is mate like everybody can understand that we’re moving in different directions but the big thing is is like it’s not just the lateral side of it it’s like the direction of the lateral mean like that’s still lateral that’s lateral that’s lateral he getting the right one and some people might be that they go like this way so much they need to go more that way yeah exactly very most people because of what they’re being taught because of most things that are taught at the moment M like many goers go that yeah all just but that’s all you ever hear is turn rotate all you ever hear is rotation rotation rotation rotation whereas like I think rotation is more of a I use the club head to create rotation so I throw that club head back it pulls me into rotation I move lateral I move ver I release the club hard that pulls me into rotation I don’t really ever try and turn it’s just a by product of what I do yeah absolutely right tell me when you’re ready Bud go ahead so step off and stop step in and hit good and what you’ll notice watch your left leg watch out rebounds earlier so you actually move it that way watch it rebound it rebounds up yeah like go and even that you trying hard to go like this on it really yeah whereas I’m almost just like I’m stepping and I’m just ripping the arms into it it’s step do you feel like you come out way no no no because like that’s going down to kind of like um you know when coaches say to you oh you’re you’re out to in so let’s swing The Club at two o’clock that kind of stuff is it that’s not really because you actually exit more left and more closed you are because the more closed off you are the club exits more left the more actual you start to spin it pushes the club so you see players all the time don’t you take the right hand off the club that’s because they got the body’s going really left the club starting to go like this so excuses out the way early right so literally what I’m going to do now is I need to try and create the same angle I have been toying around if I’m honest with ways of doing it moving in and I do think you can stand further away and actually do it but we can create the same angle in the back swing yeah so we can do it that way for now I am going to I’m figuring it out yeah I’m going to incorporate it in but what we can do is is from here look is I’m going to step this way and then I’m going to hit the ball so I’m going to go step and then hit and what you should see is a little bit more right start line and it should be a bit thin if anything which is what that was so if I did that rep I would then do another rep and I would make sure that I release the club a little bit more so I’d go here and then all of a sudden I can hit that cuz that’s quite a that’s that’s a strong shot against that breeze isn’t it yeah so like that’s what I wanted probably yeah like generally it’s about a kind of 10 12 yard draw but but for you talking about the cut and that being your pattern it’s almost a bit like if we can get you if we can get you shaping it a little bit more this way so you’re going to take yeah and then you’re almost going to kind of not step this way at all it’s almost just going to go behind you that’s it and then from there then you’re going to try hit it from there you might might shank the first one just because if you hold on to it and spin out you’re not going to make your way back to the ball you’ve got to it’s forcing you to move this way to do it properly anyway so little step and then go so thin and right exactly what we said so what you can do now is you’re going to hit three or four of those thin and right then your brain’s going to go I can let it go now and it’ll start letting it go all right and a little step off Let It Go so already that one starting to come back a bit but yeah that’s the reason it’s thin though is because basically um because of the direction I’m getting you to move you I’ve made it so difficult for you with your move you’re going to have to do what I want you to do otherwise you won’t strike you’re missing the ball yeah you’re shanking it but you’re not you’re not heel shanking it you’re swipe shanking it so again on this next one so do a little practice swing for me next to the ball and what I want you to do is I want you to create the biggest thud on the map that you can as you do it so do me a little practice swing on the mat so step off at that same angle biggest thud you can create like I mean mate throw it throw it stop holding on good you hear that sound right now go back on the ball do the exact same thing you just did with the step off but I want you to create that sound on the M for me there you go so what I’ve got you to do there basically is throw the club in harder because if you spin out if you watch this so pass the club if I spin out just as a little demo if I even if I go in nicely if I spin here you’ll notice I can’t hit the ground whereas if I go here and I throw I can hit that ground every time so what I’ve got you to do there because you thinned a couple is I’ve asked you by by giving by putting your senses to a sound I’ve kind of given you like a mental cue there of how to stay over it and release it more and that’s why do it so it slows your rotation down cuz you know you got to hit the ground it it gets you into rotation later so little practice swing again little step inside and biggest thud you can create good right then hit the ball for me same thing though say Q’s are step off hit the ground there you go money there he is the boy welcome home what’s um what I get like a fear of is like but I get I’m just trying to think throwing it right yeah because I’ve had so much of that I associate throwing with like the harder I throw the harder I’m going to go there yeah well because I’m back here yeah you can throw as hard as you thr in a different you’re going to throw in a complet yeah the directional thing it’s not like I said to you it’s not about a directional thing so if you were to release it if you were so open to it the reason you’ve never released it is cuz you’re scared of hitting it 100 yards left yeah so what you’ve done is now is I’ve shaped your body into a POS position that you can release it and which is why the first couple I said to you before you hit any you’ll thin it right yeah I even did the same demo of what I’ve just done to you then I go then your brain starts to go hang on a minute I don’t want to with it right either goes hang on I haven’t seen one go left for ages I just I’ll just release it now that’s what your brain almost does don’t it’s almost just kind of going along the journey with you without even thinking about it so little step and thud beautiful really throw it in on that last piece Josh you can let it go now and go nice stronger isn’t it ball flights more light even that that sounded like maybe a millimeter heavy and it still comes out like that yeah it comes out with a you can see the ball speed can’t you this why you like this is why you don’t always need the deck cuz like the thing is you can see that’s moving hotter do you know what I mean you can just see it in the flight can’t you good and now you starting to actually release the club a little bit let’s hit a couple more of those for balls are a bit uh starting to get some ropey ones [Music] now pure in it but what you’ll notice as well because you’re moving that way now and you’re more on top of it strike just sounds it’s like down more isn’t it it’s less clicky myself like step the left fo I yeah I know again there m it’s cuz your body’s moving in the right direction now doing things don’t worry about that cheers [Music] from Donell never seen right so what we’re going to do now I’m just going to go back into hitting some normal ones now so what I want you to do is basically you’re going to there’s a couple of things we can do so number one I always want you to do that staggered step as your practice like so you’re always going to do one practice swing first that’s going to be it for you at the minute just yeah just because what I think is is like I think the height thing you’re kind of dealing with you it’s an easy thought and it stay taller stay taller push from your left arm then then from there though it’s like the more you can feel this just before you’re going to hit the better stop you sitting on it um sitting and spinning so do that as your pre-shot routine and then what we’re going to do for you at the moment is you know when you’re in your studio if you can get a club or whatever we’ll just use one of your clubs um if you set up as if you’re going to do that drill for me just hit so actually set up as if you’ve already done your drill so you’re going to hit this normally yeah just set up in your normal stance for me right what I’m going to do is I’m just going to pop that like that what I want you to do is just do a little practice swing without stepping where you feel like that taller back swing for me and stop then move your left knee and your left shoulder up the angle of that club so you’re going to feel there you go perfect yeah there you go there you go perfect there you go so it’s more like that yeah that’s the way it’s going to feel yeah cuz that’s the same angle as the step yes okay so that’s why I put the club down on the ground and then all you’re going to do when you hit it is you’re going to go through your perfect little routine then you can push up and release yeah so but the thing is you’ve got to do like your little practice swing first which is why it’s better off not having a club um and then what you’ll do is then is you’ll then just do this as a shot so let’s hit a couple just without always you’re not getting in never got that yeah you got no rebound it’s a rebound isn’t it it’s that I’ve never had that yeah like you say don’t push in you can’t push out so little push off and then and then you’re going to feel like you’re moving up that stick there you go and then it’s way less this way so hit this one now so stay taller and feel like you’re just leaning up that stick then let it go mate you can let it go now that’s why it’s so that’s why it’s so weak it’s because it’s not like you’re not letting it go you don’t have to hold on for dear life now mate it’s not going to go left because everything’s moving in that direction if anything you’re just going to it’s just going to come off slow and a bit right so let it go send it it’s like you’re like so again good move off and then feel like you’re moving up and let it go so again that’s what I want to see as your Miss yeah push right cuz that’s that’s you literally just going like this and then just not letting it go yeah but I’m happy with that I would say like if I start if I start the ball right it’s rarely going right yeah it don’t whereas when I start it left it just starts yeah just absolute cutting on you yeah yeah the thing is though mate if you’re doing this and holding on for their life no pull slices well pull Cuts all day and the thing is mate like people that tend to miss left that’s what makes me laugh when people struggle with a left miss you know when they start thinking about hitting faades for safety I’m like well you miss left it’s generally because it starts left not cuz it moves left so the problem is then you go and put yourself into a shape that requires the ball to start left and I just that doesn’t make any sense to me like if I if I was struggling with like a pull start line but the last thing I want to go to is a cut like I want to feel a push and that’s what I mean when I when I visualize the words push draw means to me push that’s how I visualize it do you know what I mean but again that’s the player within me talking not really the coach that’s the field side of it is it so again stay nice and tall in that back swing mate just lean and then you’re just going to lean in and then let it go I think i’ got to feel more of like like that absolutely rather than like I get sometimes a bit feel going this way yeah yeah we’re shifting we’re just today if you think about the first demo if you had your three lines with clubs it would look like this wouldn’t it so if you had three clubs from that club there you would almost have that’s the line you’ve been moving on that would be the bad line and now we’re moving you up that line yeah do you see what I mean so and that’s almost kind of again that’s they’re all lateral one’s just the direction that allows you to do the other bit [Music] [Music] come let it go in in and throw it’s literally this though it’s literally here in throw not not spinning and hold not spinning and hold M I think your distance as well just going to do this well M you’re not even letting it go if you think about it logically Club head speed if you swing in the club head mate I’d say you’ve got a bit more in the tank do you know what I mean just move up there and let it go there you go right so let’s let me take that club out now cuz I don’t want you to stand on it but what I really want you to do now on your practice swings you’ve got to be throwing in it hard into that M mate cuz that’s the bit that’s the only thing that’s missing now that’s right and then so you know when Brando was in Scotland yeah so I obviously did uh Island the week before it was like really good on the Range obviously had a great week but because he’ had a weak in the wind when I got to Scotland he hit the first three balls I heard him hit again slightly heavy ohy little heavy so that’s cuz he’s gone backwards a little bit so then the first thing I do in the session I get him to thin it almost on purpose where I move him off it so much that he’s got to work that hard to get back across and then he starts so what happened was literally over three more balls it went from a little heavy to thin to them Perfection within like six balls and the reason is is cuz he’s like coming and it’s gone backwards a little bit then we get it too far the other way and then we get him into a position then where he can actually start letting the club go again yeah so little practice swing for me first mate and I want you to really thud them out hard as you can so move off move in up the stick and then throw good and that throw really like mate Let It Go with the arms don’t hold on to it you don’t have to right get off it move in and throw it and what I love for you it’s pure in it like that is a very very very different sound and shape no sign of left start line no sign of like that like the ball flights earlier on to me it looked a little now that’s like that is it so practice swing again mate just so you get that feedback off the mat so move off down and in at the stick then throw good you can really throw it in harder than that mate that’s it left shoulder up and off move in and throw almost just didn’t let that go again but that’s going to be the only shot you hit yeah it’ll just be and it’s not a cut it’s like a push it’s just a push yeah but all that’s asking you to do is let it go cuz look if I if I hit a couple quick if I do your one first so just to show it I’ll l a couple of the crap in so if I’m like if I just move into it and I don’t let it go look where it goes so it’s flush it’s just right yeah so literally all I do to change that is I do the exact same move in but then I just get that bit on the end of it look at the difference then all of a sudden it starts starts 15 yards further left I mean that’s all it is it’s just yeah even though the the thing is and this becomes really really important later on in your progression because the thing is when you can feel them individually you probably heard in the in the conversation me and him were having on on the stuff we put on Instagram it’s like I mess around with two and three a lot so if I want it to come out like this I just stay in it forever if I want it to come up through my nose I just pull up earlier do you know what I mean and that’s what I taught him as well that’s what I was showing him and he was saying wasn’t he like about that low one he feels like he’s like on it yeah he does yeah which is kind of like what I’ve that’s what I’ve been doing for years mate you know what I mean it’s like for me when I taught him like the Stinger driver thing it’s like teed down staying it longer comes out that that’s the drive that cuz that was probably I worked out that like driver was my biggest tool as I hit it my like that’s my game so I wanted to get it in play everywhere so what I did was I had my normal Drive I taught myself that one and I taught myself a little cut do I mean so then I could do it anywhere do you know what I mean and it just become that’s why it BEC such a tool for me yeah in then throw it good and that throw for you is the most important bit let it go so again good move off stay tall in and throw there you go change your start line completely don’t it money and that’s all it is I think that’s going to be the biggest so the thing that we’re going to have to do is this like you’re probably not obviously from today you’re not going to get every piece but the thing today is the two step drills we’ve given you you got to go away and smash those so stay in taller if you don’t stay tall you can’t move in so we’ve got to get that bit first then we learn to move in in the right direction which we’ve done two or three things now for that and then literally then once we’ve got those tided up completely then all of a sudden we start throwing clubs we start doing all kinds of things to help you feel that release pattern yeah exactly and then we’re golden then by like like throwing it letting it go that is what you’re talking about just letting the club throw it down throw it down yeah literally I’m I’m going like this so for me a good demonstration would be this like I’m literally going I’m literally like I’m down I’m throwing it about or nothing no throw it down cuz that’s what stabilizes it too it’s the throwing it down is what stabiliz is what basically gets the club to decelerate that’s what stabilizes it so you know whenever I look like this on the way out so on camera you no it’s like Brandon particularly when we’re after the good stuff it looks like that the reason we like that look is because that means he’s throw thrown it in it’s decelerated and it comes out this way when it’s over accelerating it looks like that which people call a flip it’s not it’s an over acceleration they’re too it’s not a flip it’s not like somebody’s literally going like this is it they’re not going like that you’re not ever thinking about like whole release No never just throw it in the ground I just throw it down yeah and that’s what helps me slow down it’s what helps sequence up the exit and it allows what it’s what stabilizes the club face that’s what I was Amed he like the more I think that’s what we said he like the more I get down yeah the straigh neutral mate like you think the first session we ever had when I got there I was like Jesus that’s nine IRS I’m like and I’m like it’s great you have a shot that you knows going to happen but the problem is what you going to do like when what you going to do when when you got wind off the right or you’ve got like a pin on the front right or you can’t play D I don’t think so but that’s why did you hear like the first ever interview I did it literally first interview in Island you know what I said I said we started I wanted to come and see what it was like in person it was hair on the heavy side if it missed it was a window too high and it was overdrawing too much and literally mate what we did in like that first session if you’d seen it the draws went from like this to like tight and now when he’s on like M we we had a range session in which unfortunately didn’t record the audio but like I stood there and watched him hit 80 balls and it didn’t matter whether it was wedge one-handed driver it was just like that unbelievable one thing I noticed seen a couple play Mad or even when we last played yeah yeah and then like he’s in the S and like even in that transition there m I’ve not seen NE yeah it’s I’m real is it so impressive spin was maxid spin yeah 500 was it hardly anything yeah and the great thing about it as well though mate is it didn’t matter what was really impressive was I’ve always said to him his litness test is the Stinger driver cuz if he’s out pattern-wise it’ll hook it so what starts happening when he starts getting that like this you know his patterns on do you know what I mean um and I know that having on had and it was interesting you know I said to you before you hit your first ball you’ll hit it thin and right I said to him the first time he hits it I go you’ll probably hit this left and he hit it and it went and I went right stay in it longer did it like perfect straight away I was like that’s your answer so if you hit it left you got to do that more yeah and that’s what I think the best players in the world do mate is like I know for example if I stand on the T box I got water all down the left I’m literally just staying in it as long as possible cuz can’t it left yeah but yeah mate I think that’s about it yeah you happy with that yeah really happy just please make sure on every rep I’m scared to release yeah you got to let it go bro the problem is though you’re going to be because if you’re sew this way the problem is if you release it you’re going to hit it this far behind it so what you’ve learned to do is just hold it to get the club low point forwards like and that like throw I’ve been so scared of frow being like big like that yeah I can’t go that way if I’ve got that good back yeah I’m steing you got to piece it now up and off in on the angle Let It Go in up and off in on the angle Let It Go There You Go mate happy with that bud

  1. Liam basically changed my long game in 6 weeks. Amazing how the drills can change your pattern soo quickly, with just reps. Great vid thanks for the upload

  2. I’m definitely not the only one watching everything on YouTube with liams name on it 😂 so much of what he says seems to resonate with me

  3. TrackmanAsh on the right? I remember his chipping lessons with James Wiltshire. Cracking coach also. Shame about the audio but I heard the coach fine which was the most improtant thing 😂😊

  4. why are you pretending to be +6, when it is the most easy thing in the world to see that you are not. Do not confuse other people, that just ruins the actual respect for true scratch golfers

  5. That move in that direction at 37.00, still can’t understand it, as surely , how can the hands with handle in them, exit the swing to our left ? When your moving in that direction of club on the floor. Looks like your left side is blocking that part. Just my opinion.

  6. I am looking at picking up the Avoda combo irons after seeing your videos. One question – I love the look of the black irons, but curious if the black finish noticeably wears off? Any concern on the finish long term?

  7. Hi Josh, maybe I am wrong, but probably people at your level, with an amazing handicap, the problem is not about achieving a perfect swing technique (yours is beautiful), but focusing in other direction. Pros train around 8 hours per day since they are kids. Maybe there is a moment that in order to achieve a certain level, is just about volume & quality training, not perfect swing. Just thinking loudly. Keep this amazing content.

  8. Actually baffles me how people can watch a 50 minute FREE video of a lesson with liam that costs you over £100ph and have the audacity to complain when im almost certain theyre not members of TGN and have never watched any of the actual towel drill videos on the site. The amount of 'i know better' people in golf is astounding 😂😂

  9. Another Liam video to absorb. I’m a member of TGN but watch everything on YouTube as well to pick up more info

Hopefully sort an in person lesson this year too

  10. Can we have an update video since the lesson. Great content and I’m sure a lot of people want to know how you’ve progressed since with the step drills etc

  11. Josh like ur game and swing. May I make a few suggestions? 1) Choke down a little (more than now)…..on all clubs, especially pitch/chip shots. Think Fleetwood. 2) pick spot foot/2 feet in front of ball before firing (along intended target/swing path), stay focused on that longer.
