NORTH EAST, PA – Manhattan Women’s Golf claimed victory in the Evann Parker Memorial at Lake View Country Club, hosted by NEC’s Mercyhurst University, on Monday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Out of the starting gate, the Jaspers struggled with a pair of bogeys, but bounced back rather quickly courtesy of Nawel Ben Latief, and her second hole birdie.
As the first round went along, the Green and White added some green to their scorecards with a pair of birdies from Giana Zinke to recapture the momentum.
For Peyton “Beans” Factor, she put together a near perfect back nine, that featured eight holes landing for par out of the final nine.
In the final round on Monday morning, Maddison Long opened her round with a pair of birdies to extend the exceptional start for the Jaspers.
Continuing right where she left off, was Ben Latief, who landed par on the first seven holes to open the second round.
On the eighth hole, the senior landed birdie, before concluding the front nine by sinking par, and logging one under through the Par 36.
On the 11th hole, Ben Latief posted a triple bogey, before returning to form and sinking par the rest of the way, with a birdie on the 13th hole to capture her first title, and the program’s first victory.
QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS
Head Coach Keith Prokop: “The ladies are starting to show their growth and potential. We always say success is a lagging indicator, but it’s nice to see a big win this early in program history! The girls are eager to chase this feeling and continue improving!”
Senior Nawel Ben Latief: “We came together, united in solidarity and with a common goal, to win. We stuck to the agreed strategy and followed the process to ensure our shots were successful. I am very happy to have won with this young team. They are ambitious, but above all, very talented. For myself, I am happy to have won the tournament, as it shows that my hard work is paying off. However, I still have work to do to improve and become the best version of myself.”
