Team Europe celebrated in style following Sunday’s Ryder Cup triumph, with Luke Donald’s men taunting US President Donald Trump and American rival Bryson DeChambeau before a flurry of champagne showers and sing-a-longs.

Europe held off a late rally from the US team in the singles to clinch a 15-13 victory in the cauldron of the Bethpage Black course in New York state, the closest Ryder Cup contest since 2012. Their victory came after days of verbal abuse from New York spectators, with Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy the main target.

After Shane Lowry birdied the last hole to retain the Ryder Cup, pandemonium erupted on the green, with the Europeans embracing each other before celebrating with their adoring fans.

After retreating to the locker room, the Europeans couldn’t resist taunting President Trump, posting a video to social media with the group chanting: “Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?”

Trump responded in a post: “Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!”

Later, the European golfers found themselves on a bridge that links the 18th green to the player facilities, with thousands of fans watching from underneath.

The bridge had the names of America’s players printed on the side, so cheeky McIlroy, who has an infamous rivalry with DeChambeau, intentionally covered the Americans name with a European flag, a deliberate act of mischief.

The McIlroy-DeChambeau rivalry has been one of golf’s most intriguing and intense in recent years, with American notably irritated with McIlroy didn’t speak to him during the final round of this year’s Masters, won by the Northern Irishman,

Elsewhere, Lowry used a blue pen to change a 15 that had been printed on the walls of the sheds, indicating the number of European Ryder Cup wins, to a 16.

“There we go, f*** them,” he exclaimed after updating the tally.

As the sun set, the players returned to the putting green for the obligatory champagne showers, with Lowry spraying a full blast of alcohol at McIlroy’s face.

The Europeans howled in laughter as they drenched each other in champagne.

The Europeans erupted in a chorus of sing-a-longs on the team bus, mimicking the chants their fans had recited all weekend.

“Europe’s on fire, USA is terrified,” they belted.

Next, a fan favourite – to the tune of the Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’: “He’s in your heeee-ad, in your heeee-ad, Rory! Rory! Rory!”

McIlroy lifted the trophy above his head as his teammates serenaded the reigning Masters champion.

Lastly, the victors sang Queen’s classic ‘We Are The Champions’.

The following morning, Lowry woke up and tweeted: “I might have a hangover.”
