Former Open Champion Stuart Sink has revealed his frustration after being overlooked for the US Ryder Cup captaincy, admitting he never even received a call back after interviewing for the role. Sink, a five-time Ryder Cup player in 2009 Open winner, was among the names linked with the position after Tiger Woods declined the opportunity. He spoke with US team manager John Wood during the selection process and left the conversation feeling optimistic about his chances. I thought it went well, but I haven’t received one word since then. Sink said ahead of the PGA Tour Champions Furick and Friends event. Never got a call back that said, “We’re going in another direction. All I know is at the end of the conversation, it sounded like things look pretty good for you.” Never heard another word. The 52-year-old only learned that Keegan Bradley had been chosen while he was playing in the 2024 Scottish Open and not from officials, but from his wife, who had seen news. I was gutted. I thought I had a pretty good shot at it, Sink admitted. It’s not a selfish thing, though. I want the team to be the best team it can be. I thought the PGA got themselves into a mess this year because Keegan was one of our top 12 players. Because he was captain, they basically prevented him from playing. I don’t have any designs to be on the next team, but I’m not that far removed from competing and winning tournaments. Bradley’s captaincy sparked debate, particularly after some of his early pairings were heavily criticized. While team USA staged a spirited Sunday fight back at Beth Page, Europe held firm for a 15-13 victory, retaining the RDER Cup and extending their dominance. Despite the disappointment, Sink made it clear he’s still eager to lead his country in the future, especially when the Ryder Cup travels to Otterm Manor, Ireland in 2027. Heck yeah, I’m interested in being the Ryder Cup captain. I’d love to represent the United States and the players. take some of the experience I’ve got and apply it and hopefully get this thing turned around. It feels like the RDER Cup has been a European party for about 15 years or more. I’d like to change that. Sink also suggested that team Europe’s meticulous preparation is something the US must learn from. Europe is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to partnerships, course setup, game plans, assistant captains. I think we need to do a little more of what they’re doing. I don’t know what that is yet, but we have to do some things differently. I’d love a shot at it and rework some of the stuff to figure out what’s working for them.
