CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – Golfers in Chocolay Township supported parents experiencing infant loss on Sunday.
MoxieMoms held its first Moxie Masters golf scramble. 18 teams played on Gentz’s Homestead Golf Course and could enter raffle baskets.
All proceeds go toward the nonprofit’s community programs, like training to support grieving parents.
MoxieMoms Board Secretary Edith Nelson says the scramble also recognized fathers. She says dads are left out of the grief cycle in some ways.
“We have someone who comes up and says, I had a loss, but it was 30 years ago, and we never talked about it, and you still see people carrying that grief through their lifetime, but here we are standing in that space saying it’s okay to share your stories,” Nelson said. “It’s okay to acknowledge those lives that affected you so immensely.”
She hopes the golf outing gave space to partners who needed an ear.
