We tested the updated Takomo Ignis D1 Driver, the latest release from Takomo Golf, now backed by Grant Horvat and The Bryan Bros.
First, we put the Ignis D1 hit a few shots with it to see how it performs in terms of distance, feel, and forgiveness. Then, we compared it side-by-side with the Callaway Epic Max LS to see how it stacks up against a well-known premium driver. Finally, we wrapped it up with a long drive challenge using only the Ignis D1.
Can this budget-friendly driver really deliver? If you’re looking for an affordable golf driver that performs across all skill levels, this one might surprise you. Watch now to see how the Takomo driver stacks up!

Welcome back to Bogey Book. Today we’re going to be reviewing the brand new Tacoma Ignis D1 driver. They have completely redesigned this driver. They have a new face design. They have a lower center of gravity with these cool weights on the bottom. They also have new shaft options. And the new design is super sleek off the rip. I really like it. But today, we’re going to see if it actually performs, Carl. And I’m excited to do that today. Let’s go. We’re going to start off by hitting some shots on the Trackman here at City Golf. Give our honest thoughts and feels. and we’re going to compare it to the Callaway Epic Max driver and of course we’re going to do some challenges. Let’s get to it. I’m going to do a quick unboxing, guys, for you because it’s completely fresh. Oh my, that’s like the worst unboxing. Please. Wait, wait, wait, wait. I’m going to tear this thing off and look, look, look. Oh no. Unsatisfying. Wait. Okay, please. Okay, you redeeming yourself. Look. Oh my god. Remember the grip as well. I completely actually forgot the Lampin grips with the Ventus shaft. Let’s go. The Vent is blue shaft. Actually, the blue Oh, let’s go. You clutched it up. And 3 2 1. There you go. Oh my god. I didn’t even get the top. The difference is we’ve got I’ve got a 10.5 loft. Why are you kicking my head covered? I’ve got a 10.5 loft and Carl has got a nine loft because he tends to hit it high. I tend to hit it lower. Three shots each and I need this ball to get up. Don’t mind what’s going on the screen right now. I’m predicting like uh 250 for the first one. The sound. Oh, I middled it though. 235. A little high on the face maybe. And we’re up to yards now. That’s fantastic. If I could get like 260, I don’t know. 270 maybe. That’s way left. I mis hit that so hard. That’s like top of the face bad. I need to lock in a little bit and show this driver in a better light. 242 tending to go left. Oh, it’s short. So far, it’s shorter than my regular driver. And the feel is a bit hard, but we need to hit a couple more shots. Let’s get it moving. You hit a few shots with yours cuz you’re not going to hit a 10.5 loft. That’s not yours. That’s 10.5 is nasty. What don’t you like about the 10.5, bro? On my regular one. We’re going to be comparing with this eight loft. Okay, that’s crazy. What are your predictions? Like, looking at your shot, you get Max 260. Yeah, like 260 something. But I’m really mhitting them. So, I think you’re going to at least middle it. This is going to go inconsistent. I swear can’t get worse than mine, can it? That’s a shot. 270. Okay, it’s not bad. I get what you’re saying about the hard feel. Okay, I’m going to try to hit it. It’s going to be go much shorter, but it’s going to go straight. High, but straight. I don’t know how I feel about the distance, man. That’s like eating a lot. It’s cooked. That’s cooked. I mean, you got to get like 270. Oh, no. 250. I just suck. The contact’s good. All the shots were in the middle of the face. The one thing that stood out for me, it’s very light. We haven’t hit a normal drive in like ages, bro. That’s true. Just pulled out the driver. It feels lighter than my irons. That’s a crazy claim. I mean, the comparison is going to tell it all for me, and I feel like it’s going to be the same for you. I mean, sure. Let’s get to it, then. I kind of like the club face itself, but the shaft is shorter than a regular driver shaft. I think you have the standard on the Callaway. I do as well. And uh like a little bit. Is it? Oh, no. It’s actually the same as your Callaway. What? Then apparently I have a longer shaft on my driver. I think we’re just used to this shaft, the hammer. That’s That’s a bold claim. That’s an extremely long shaft. I’m try to get a hold of at least a shot. That was better. It’s not great. It’s really high though. It’s straight. That one I actually kind of got in the middle of the face and it started feeling pretty good. Let’s get it lower though. I definitely did not get it lower. That’s a little 173. I try the Callaway. I think I’ve got more potential with this one. We’re rocking a Callaway Epic Max LS driver with 8° of loft. And what is the shaft? Mitsubishi shaft and a Callaway regular drift. Oh, thanks for running it down, man. Yeah. So, this is a stiff. What What do you have on the Tacoma, by the way? I think we have X stiff. Okay, so we got X stiffs on those. Well, let’s see how this one does. One goes lower a bit left. 270. I feel a little bit more confident with this one, too, to be honest with you. I’m going to get it in the middle. Yeah, I mean 280. That one’s in the square. Maybe even almost in the square. So far, this feels easier to play. forgiveness-wise feels a little bit more forgiving, but I think it might be just because we’re not used to it. Those were literally our first three shots with the drivers. Yeah, I feel like the main factor is that we’re not used to it. We haven’t broken it in. You know, I know we’re going to get those comments. You have to hit at least 69,000 shots before the face is broken in. Okay, come on. New Ignis driver. Yeah, but personally, I think six or seven are enough. Boom. High straight though. This is 10.5, bro. Why are you taking mine? I saw a drastic change in distance for you. It was a really drast and uh confidence was a big factor, too. That’s good. Oh, no, it’s not. 270. Little Right. It’s not bad. It’s not that right. It’s all right. Let’s see what I can do with this. I think you can definitely do better than than you did with that. You think? I’m predicting like 285 at least. I’m saying 295. Okay, fair enough. Let’s see. Oh yeah, I’m used to this. A little 280. Still a bit further. I feel like this doesn’t change like the distance for me. It does to you. It It does. Don’t know why. Yeah. 280. Like both of the shots identical. So nothing changes basically for you. Nothing changes, but the feel is definitely it’s different. This feels much more softer. The new Tacoma Ignis drivers, they feel very solid. They’re kind of soft, aggressive. I mean, I get what you mean. doesn’t feel like a rock, but it’s kind of like a bit shallow on the shallow end. It’s in the middle. I mean, a g good comparison would be something from the Callaway Stealth series. Imagine the feel of a Callaway Stealth hybrid, but that put into a driver, basically. Want to play some games? I I definitely want to play some games. Let’s do longest drive. Three shots each. Of course. Of course. Classical. This is going to be a shortest drive comp. Man, it’s not that bad for me. I For me, the distance is kind of the same. I just can’t hit the middle with it for some reason. Oh, it’s too short for you. Maybe do the pre-click. Oh my god. I don’t want to do the stupid pre-clicks. I’m making you do the stupid pre-click. So bad, bro. You’re going first. Am I though? Yes, you’re going first. Oh god, of course I’m not. Whip out your shaft. Only the Tacoma drive. You got an extra stiff shaft today. Yeah, bro. Good luck to you. It feels light, but it’s not. It’s the same weight as your big floppy shaft, bro. I just realized what? The look is very nice, bro. No, it’s really good. I love the look. It’s cool. It’s cool. It looks really nice. It’s high with a nine. That’s dead center. It’s so short, bro. The little 250 bomb. And the thing is, I don’t even know if I could beat the little 250 bomb. That sounded good. Ah, I scratched my head. How? How, bro? With the grip. You know, you go here and then you like a little fade, bro. Third one’s going to be probably the same. Oh, that’s cooked. No. And that’s high. And that’s right. Oh, no. That’s bad. That’s not even out the park. No way. That’s 50. That’s a little 240. Little 240 for the boy. I’m not feeling confident on this at all. Okay, I’m going to lock in. I’m just giving excuses. Come on. Well, that’s high. And that’s right. 210 probably. Oh my god. Wait, wait. It’s going to pull a 230. It pulled a 230. Okay, we’re starting off strong. Oh my god. I’m going to do a little one of these moves. That’s going to help. Hopefully. Oh no. No way. You caught it. I even got the ball in my hand. Oh my god. Okay, that move is not going to help. I’m still going to have to hit a fade. That’s good. Okay, that’s a drive. Sounded really good. There you go. Yeah. Yeah, that’s 260. There you go. 270. Come on, little 270. Come on. This shot takes it all back, bro. After this shot, you know what I realized? I was just swinging it super bad. I know what I was doing wrong. And uh this shot actually changes my opinion on the driver by about 50%. Let’s talk more about that at the final thoughts. Welcome to I’m going to start off with the positives here. First of all, looks. I really love the redesign, the stealth look, the carbon on top, the new face, everything. I think, oh my god, is really nice. I like the new shaft. These are the shafts they had previously. And I kind of like the Ventice Blue a little bit better than those shafts. When I hit that last shot, I actually really like the feel. Literally, your last shot changed the whole perspective. Yeah, it did because I was here thinking that it’s not forgiving, that it’s so hard, but I hit that last shot and I understood, yeah, that that’s kind of a a me thing. And the last thing for the positives, it’s actually really affordable. It cost $359 and it’s literally half the price that all the other big brand drivers are on the market. So I guess you could call it affordable performance. But Carl, let me know what you don’t like about the driver. First of all, the grip option. This is standard grip, I think. Yeah, standard. I think they have grip. Are you serious? No, they do not. Also, speaking about the feel, it wasn’t really forgiving. It wasn’t. It wasn’t at all. So, the thing is, it’s kind of like a blade in driver form. If you hit it good, it’s going to feel so amazing and you’re going to be able to play it real good. But if you’re having an off day, man, it’s going to be tough to hit a ball in the middle. The distance, at least like I showed, is going to be way shorter. I don’t know if that’s the case for everybody, but I was having a real tough time hitting the driver out here today. The main question, would you buy it? I think at some point I definitely would. It’s good performance. It’s really tough to beat the price, but since I’ve been playing for years, probably not my primary choice for a driver here. I think we got to break it in. Let us know guys if you want to see a video after like 100 rounds with this driver. We might do it because we got to break this driver in as it’s new or we’ll literally just unbox this shot with this. Hopefully you guys enjoyed this video. Been looking at this driver to replace my Cleveland XL2. Everything I have seen of the Takomo is how very low spin it is. Not sure why, but they need to look into that.
Curious how you have your impact video setup? Would like to put something like that together for my simulator.
