What’s up, guys? Let’s talk about box sets. Let’s talk about those beginner complete sets and who should be using those. Are they any good? Your entry point into the game. Should it be straight for custom set golf clubs or should you hit a completely matched set of golf clubs that might hit your price point and get you off the mark to go to the driving range and see if you’re actually going to stick with this game? We’ve got it all. So, stick with this video. I’ll explain what you should be looking for. Day one, you’ve made the decision. Welcome to the game. Welcome to the channel. You’ve come to the right place. You want to get this golf ball in the air. You’ve seen it on TV. You might have watched TGL or you’ve gone past some badass shops just like this one, and you like the idea of what this can be, or you even want the social side of golf. Honestly, I don’t care. I just love that you’re into it, and you are playing. At this stage, you’re on complete ground zero. you have no clue how to rock and roll with this game. Do you know what I’m going to say? Don’t go out there and immediately spend fortunes on a custom set of golf clubs. But there is a criteria to this when you absolutely need to and there’s a body type and a build and a mobility type that does need to get there. Now, what is a box set? Let’s cover that next. A box set is going to be a complete setup that will have a number of golf clubs for you. It’s going to include a putter. It’s going to probably include a couple of these woods. Guess what? They’re not actually made of wood. They’re going to be titanium or they’re going to be carbon. They’re going to be much bigger. They have a larger hitting space. The game of golf is played usually with 14 clubs. Make a note of that because you’re going to need it as you build your golf bag, which is referred to as the clubs. But at your stage, without a consistent strike, without a consistent attack angle, not even to get into what that is yet, but without hitting the ball and moving the same way every time, you’re not going to need all 14 of these because for maybe dependent on how much time you put in and your athletic ability, this game is really difficult. But trust me, you’ve started the greatest journey of your life if you can get through the difficult entry point. entry points is going to be the box set. In addition to the box set, you would be wellarmed, and I’ve recently given this advice to a family member to go and seek out a golf lesson. Don’t get me wrong if they live here on these shores. I’d have done it myself. But go and seek out a solid golf pro who’s not going to put you in badstead because the way in which you grip the golf club, we’ve got videos coming on that as well within the channel. But the way in which you grip it impacts the bit that you hit. That’s the face. So to get consistency, to get progression, the way you hold it and where the ball goes in relation to your feet and how you align your feet is critical. So that type of golfer that doesn’t know that the box set is going to be part of your journey. It’s it’s going to come with different flexes, extremely generic. It might be senior’s flex. That’s going to be guys that are getting up there, new to the game, over 60 years old. And I’m generalizing, but want to know how to move to get the ball in the air. It’s based on how quickly you can move. It’s based on your mobility. This is a brand new exercise for anyone out there coming to it. You’ve never swung a golf club efficiently in your life. Then senior flex is where you’re going to need to start for your box set. In 6 months time, you may well look at that and want to chop it in and get into what I’m talking about and sat around right here because that’s you because you’re getting consistency. But having the softer flex golf shaft potentially than what you need is going to help you advance that learning curve. It’s like anything. If you get in the elite level equipment too early, it’s going to hinder that development. But if you go there slowly and build your knowledge of what you need to get into custom fit golf clubs, you’re going to learn that you can improve a lot quicker. Other flexes on golf shafts that you’re going to see, there will be senior. I covered it. regular. There might even be a ladies flex in there. Then you get into stiff. And I doubt you’re going to see what’s listed as X flex, which is extra stiff in a box set. But you know what? I’ve seen Stranger Things out there. It could happen. All these clubs when they come to you are going to have different lengths. Start on the shortest ones. They’ll have the most loft. They’ll go the highest if you hit them the right way. The second little tip bit, which I’m sure there’s a few more in here, don’t try and help the golf ball in the air. Just literally make consistent contact just behind the golf ball with the club and see it go. Again, seek out a pro for advice on that. Now, at the top of this video, I mentioned there is a profile of player that this isn’t going to be accessible to. box set just isn’t going to be your deal and you’re going to have to go to a different area in order to get the right set that’s going to help you progress, help you move. The first type of player that falls into that category and the absolute best type of player in age and demographic to start is a junior. Yes, a junior can get a box set, but they got to go for lightweight. They got to go for junior stuff. They’ve got to have a length of club that is shorter for them. So, I hate to say it to you parents, but I a I want to bring out a ton of content about juniors, and I will at some point, but if you get golf clubs that are too long for your child, then effectively that’s going to impact the way they swing it. It’s going to impact the way their body moves, and they’re going to be stuck with those same fingerprints as to how they hit the golf ball for their whole golfing journey. But if you’re coming into this game, and this has happened to me before, basketball players, extremely tall, people that have arthritis and can’t grip, even Q from the history he’s had in sport, the hands need a thicker grip for other sports that have allowed his entry point into this. Baseball players, cricket players over in England, you met or of South Africa, you guys might grip it and want to feel something that’s a bit thicker than that skinny box set. You’ve come from another sport. You’re an elite athlete. You know how you had success there. You think you can fast track at golf. Hate to say it to you, you can, but it’s all about a month quicker than the person next to you because this game’s really difficult. But bring that knowledge, but some custom advice on what you’re doing will make your journey that will expedite it versus the next person in the box set because yeah, you do have some ability to be fair. So, if you get the right method and process in the early custom fit and it could just be grips for you characters, that’s going to help you. Then, let’s look at again I hit on basketball players, but other non-athletes that are super tall. This happened to me with a family member. You got to get a fitting. It It’s You’re six foot five, six foot six. A box set is going to be like trying to hit it with and I don’t know if this is transatlantic, but we have twiglets. Hold on a minute. You guys have twiglets. You any clue what a twiglet is? What’s a twiglet? It’s like a little pretzel type effort. Very skinny crisp chip. So pretzel. Pretzel will go with basically you’re going to be out there swinging pretzels. Noodles. I know that translate. I should have gone with that. It’s going to be horrific. But you’re going to need to understand a custom fit for you is going to give you a golf club that has the right weight. It’s going to give you something you can feel and then will put your feels and your journey into the right path. You might have to tweak those things. You might have to adjust them. That’s why you come to KBSX. That’s why you see the guys here because F2 chains can tweak and adjust what you need on your journey. So, you got to build a relationship with a workshop and a fitter. But you’re in then you’re off and running. The box set isn’t really for you. As you go on, you want weight. You want lie angles that are very flat in the golf clubs. I’ll get that another video. But you want certain things as you gain speed. But if you’re short and you don’t have that and you’re losing the ball to the right for the right-handed golfer, the clubs can be manipulated and the weights can be set that they can help you again to advance your journey down your golfing path. Golf’s a great game. It’s for a lifetime. But at the start, before you know the preferences that you like because you have no clue, the box set is a good place to start generically. But if you fall into those outlier categories, you’re going to need to put a lot of trust in the fitter, which is why you need a great one, and you’re going to need to put a lot of trust in the builder to ensure they’re done how you want them. 1. Always love your videos. I never bought a set , i configured based of clubs i tested. Everything according what i liked. Now i would love a fitting but that will be for next summer. Wanna be my one year in golf fitter ?

  2. You can’t buy skill.

A scratch golfer with a used box set from Goodwill while wearing flip flops will beat someone with a +15 hcp with the newest gear.

  3. Thanks for your great content. I am a 72 year old lady with arthritis, particularly in my left thumb and hand. I am only 4 ft 11 inches tall and have always thought my clubs are too long for me hence I choke down most of the time. I have very nice clubs Titleist T300 irons and some Xxio ladies Hybrids and Driver. Would you consider that I need to have my clubs shortened or should I go and have a complete set fitted? I am a high handicapper, who had to give up the game for approx 20+ years due to ill health, but am really now enjoying getting back on the course. I don’t want to waste money by buying a complete new set if I can make my existing clubs fit my stature. Many thanks in anticipation.

  4. Thank you for your videos, Trottie!
As a woman living in Germany I feel like I didn't have too many options to choose from for my box set, but I found one and I can't wait to get good enough to move on to a properly fitted set at some point. I started playing about a month and a half ago (my "Platzreife" exam is next week, fingers crossed) and I am absolutely in love with this game.
Any additional tips for (newbie) female players?

  5. Being 6" 5" myself, my clubs are only a fraction longer as tall people often have longer arms. BUT, lie angle is a lot different. You also get a naturally faster club speed from the long lever effect so there is a lot going on. Downside of tall is, the extra error multiplier of angular…well ….issues.
