ELK RIVER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s golf team is competing in the three-round Twin Cities Classic this weekend. The Gusties lead the 16-team field after Saturday’s opening round after shooting +13. Gustavus is seven strokes ahead of second-place Concordia Moorhead and Nebraska Wesleyan.
“Good start for the men today,” said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe. “Very tough conditions with wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour. Elk River has extremely small greens and can be challenging to navigate in those wins. We hung in there and put herself in a good position after day one.”
Jimmy Abdo led the Gusties in round one, shooting +1 to tie for second overall out of the field of 85 golfers.
Chris Gutuza stands just one stroke behind Abdo at +2, tying him for fourth overall.
Blake Forrest tied for seventh overall, shooting +3 on day one.
Kyle Peterson had the fourth score for Gustavus, shooting +7 to tie for 27th overall.
“Three guys in the top 10 out of 85 players as a solid start,” said Moe. “Will be nice to be playing on our home course tomorrow. We will need to navigate the conditions again but looking forward to it.”
Up next for Gustavus round two of the Twin Cities Classic on Sunday, October 5 with the first Gusties teeing off at 10:00 a.m.
