Welcome to Her Tea Time, the podcast where golf meets girl talk. Whether you’re crushing drives, crying in the bunker, or just here for the vibes and the car drinks, we’ve got you. No scorecards, no judgment, just a safe space for hot messes and high handicaps. Welcome to her tea time. Hello. Hello. Hello. Welcome back. Episode one, two, number three. We are here and we’re happy and we’re ready to start your day off great. Hopefully someone is listening besides our moms. Woo! Hi, Mom. Hi, Mom. Hi, Mom. Hi. So, what’s up, Nicole? What’s going on? What’s going on? How are you feeling? I haven’t seen you in so long. What? 72 hours? I don’t even know. What has it been? Something like that. Something like that. Yeah. I’ve been pretty tired these days. I’ve been out on these roads. out on these streets just swinging and banging. That’s a Houston reference. I’m not swinging and banging in other ways. I’m in my car. I’m No, please I’m going riding in traffic and I’m just trying to get to where I’m getting to. And sometimes you got to swing over really quick, swing back over. I don’t know where the bang part comes from cuz I’m not banging any cars, but I have to. No, actually I don’t bang curbs. Thank you very much. Andy’s been in more wrecks than I have and bumped more curbs. But who’s counting? Anyway, so what’s going on? Anything exciting going on in your life? Um, we just got invited to another I almost said soccer. Another golf tournament. That’ll be fun. We’ll talk about that later. We’re still waiting on details, but we just got asked to go. That’s going to be fun. Nice time. Yeah. What about you? What’s new? Oh, man. Absolutely nothing. I’m trying to pull something out of my butt here, but I my life is just pretty lowkey right now. That’s good with my kids. And yeah, I don’t know. It’s just been one of those days, you know. I feel like lowkey sometimes is necessary, though. Oh, it’s not lowkey. It’s just Groundhog Day. You’ll You’ll see one day what I’m talking about. But it’s fun though. It’s a It’s great days. It’s great. Don’t I don’t want to scare you out of You’re not convincing. I know. Sorry. But no, nothing really has been going on. Um, yeah, we played in that tournament and I was proud of how we did. Everyone, we all had great balls. We all had bad balls. We’ll talk We’ll talk about that in a second. But yeah, we’ll talk about that in a second. What if we start with Oh, yeah. I’m talking about the tournament we played last that we talked about the last episode that we were getting ready to go play. Yeah, we’ll touch on that later. But, um, but that’s what’s that’s about the only fun thing that’s happened in my life since I’ve talked to you all last. That was pretty fun. But it was a lot of fun. Um, why don’t we start with the 19th hole? 19th Oh my gosh. 19th hole. Do you want to explain it what it’s going to like what the 19th hole is going to consist of? Yeah. So, the 19th hole, um, we’ll either close with it or throw it in some part of the episode, but it’s basically just whatever you want to do, whatever we want to talk about. It could be a funny story about our families. It could be something cool in the golf world or something that’s happened to us or just anything we really want to talk about. We make the rules. Now, do you want to start with yours or um you can go ahead first today? You’re like, you start. The eyes that I just got from her. You start. I’m going to start 19th hole with an upand cominging player that I just reviewed and and checked a couple of facts about. Her name’s Lahie Wod. And I’m really hoping I’m saying that right. I might be saying I might be butchering it, but she’s totally going to hear this episode. She’s going to be like, “They said my name wrong.” Um, she just earned her LPGA tour card and tied for third. I wonder what it looks like. Is it an actual card? I don’t know. And it I’d be flashing that thing everywhere. It’ just be stuck to my forehead like tattoo it on my arm or something. But she just got her LPJ tour card and she tied for third in the Evian Championship. She is a former Florida State University seminal golf player, which is amazing. And um what else were we going to say about that? Try to get the train back on the track here. Okay. Um she met the criteria under the LPGA’s LEAP to earn full LPGA tour status without needing Q school, which we’re going to to Oh my gosh. We’re going to touch on getting your LPJ tour card leap Q school in a different episode, but I just thought that was yeah, awesome and great news in the women golf world. So, she’s up and coming. Good to watch. We’re going to watch a couple of her next tournaments and we’ll talk more about her in a later time. Yeah. But that’s my 19th hole. Oh, that’s awesome. Yeah, we still need to do maybe we’ll do this at the end of each episode like give out a schedule of when they can watch what they can wear. We’ll talk about that later. But yeah, I think we’re going to post those to social media. Okay. Socials. Cool. So, I guess um my 19th hole um my brother came over to my house yesterday and my niece Riley came up here. She just wanted to see the pod room and she recently went to us um I think we mentioned this last time to the um tournament the Ramico Houston championship and I just asked her she’s like can you just ask me some questions just about me and everything and I’m like of course so I kind of like interviewed her and it ended up being the cutest interview like oh my gosh it was so funny and I’m hoping I’m waiting to hear back from my brother no pressure if you’re listening to this but I’m hoping to be able to share some of it with you guys cuz it was just I don’t know it was just so cool hearing from her. She’s about to be 10, but she’s so self-confident and honestly I’m like, “Wow, I need to be more like that.” Like as she was talking and she just explains what it was like to get to watch the players and um I don’t know, it was just so neat listening back to it and just made me teareyed almost. So hopefully I’ll get to share that with y’all. But it was a special little moment. She’s so precious. I loved seeing her at the golf tournament cuz I thought it was it was almost like watching golf through her eyes. like you could see like she had her phone out video. You could see that she was kind of just so excited to see prog golfers play and just had that little gleam in her eyes. Oh yeah. Excited about she loved it. It was so fun. Golf. So yeah, it was fun. But yeah, and that’s actually quick story, another get to know me really quick 19th hole. Um my brother was actually given up for adoption. My mom had him really young and um long story short, I found out about him when I was 18. I’m 35 now and I moved here almost 12 years ago to basically make up for lost time with him. So, if we never would have never gotten reconnected or met, then we probably wouldn’t be here right now. So, and then my niece Riley um is his daughter and she was born after I’d already moved here and so she’s never known life without me. So, that’s kind of cool. You know, I’m Aunt Bee. Well, if he ever allows her, I’d love to have her like on the pile. Sure. She would die. She would be so fun. That would make her life. You wouldn’t be able to tell her nothing. She would love it. Yeah, we’ll get her on. That would be fun for sure. Well, sweet. So, I guess that’s our 19th hole. We got that out of the way. Bam, bam, boom, baby. Okay, y’all. So, I want to go into a quick little hot shot segment because I have one for today. And a hot shot segment, basically, we’re just going to talk about someone in the golf world. It doesn’t have to be a player. It can be one of our friends. It can be bartender at the course, cart girl, the marshall, but he they’ll probably never be a hot shot. Let’s be honest, cuz we just get in trouble with them. But so my hot shot of the day today is a girl named Kayla Alexander. She is in Florida and she actually was diagnosed with Have I already talked about this? I don’t think so. Okay, so my hot shot is Kayla Alexander. She is from Florida. She plays golf. Duh. Obviously. and she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 years old and um she beat that cancer’s ash. Okay, so she is doing great and we found out about her because she started a foundation called the Kayla Strong Foundation and they have I don’t know how many golf tournaments a year, but they’re I think they’re having like their first one maybe coming up. I’ll find I’ll fact check all this, but they have a tournament coming up and they’re trying to raise money. And what her foundation does is they she now supports other women in their 20s that are battling breast cancer and um whether that be financially, emotionally, um just in any way. Like I can’t imagine battling that in my 20s. Like you’re just now trying to figure out your life, what you want to do, like have fun. That’s when you’re supposed to have all the fun. And so she really like walks alongside them in this um point of life and in this battle that they face. And so I just want to highlight her and also to say I still don’t know where to look. I’m just like like a squirrel. But we actually designed some hats that are online for sale. And 100% of these proceeds are going to go straight to Kayla and the foundation. And um yeah, they’re really cute hats. So, go ahead and get one of our hats and it’ll be for a good cause and you’ll be able to find the link to those hats um in our comment section or in our description of these episodes. But yeah, so that’s my hot shot of the day. Kayla Alexander, Kayla Strong Foundation. I like that. Let’s get it, girl. Might be the best hot shot. We’re proud of you. We have. And we’re just If we were super uber rich, we would just be sending you all the money, but girl, we ain’t there yet. We’re trying. So, buy some hats, okay? They’re really cute. You’ll really like them. They are. They are really cute. I need to buy one myself. So you you haven’t got one. I’m just kidding. Nope, I haven’t. Nope. I’m behind on the ball, you know. Peruge. Peruge. Okay. So, we played in a little tournament. Yes. And it was it was our very It was your first tournament, too, right? That you’ve ever played in or have you played in one before? No, I played in one before with my work. Oh, lame. I know it. Yeah. But it was interesting. all the golf carts lined up together, all these guys just lighting up cigars just Yeah. And and there was there was a a women presence which was nice. So LEAD reached out to us. Who is LEAD? LEAD is an organization in Houston that helps inner city youth. So they kind of like foster them. Not foster. No, they just kind of walk alongside them and um Yes. Thank you. Yeah. and like educate them and help them in a lot of different ways. Yeah. You you they do field trips. There’s like a group at U of um University of Houston that does field trips with them on some days and yeah, they just it sounds like they just really enrich their lives and become friends to them really. So I’ve worked with a program or um nonprofit similar to that before in Galum Galveston Urban Ministries. Shout out. I love that. No, they’re seriously the best. But so Lead hosted, this is their second annual Houston Open at the Golf Club of Houston, which I’ve been wanting to play at. So it was really nice. This was really nice, y’all. I was like, “Oh my goodness.” I can’t remember what um which course we played on, but it was beautiful. Um their clubhouse, everything was beautiful. But they did such a good job organizing the tournament, like everything was just And it’s only their second one. Like they’re going to have one again next year. So, if you want to, we will link Lead below. Come play with us. You guys need to come out and play next year and it’s great. I think all the proceeds went to lead. Oh, yeah, they did. So, I thought that was amazing. Um, and we bags were awesome. Everything was just so awesome. The food I may have gotten like a couple. No, I didn’t. I ate what I was supposed to eat actually and it was great. I ate a small portion. And the and the girls golf club like donated during the tournament. Next year if we’re invited out again, I’m going to raise money beforehand. Oh, nice. Yeah, that’ll be a good idea to donate as well. I thought it was a great opportunity. Love giving back. I hope that one day we can give back to like the the younger girl golf community. I think that’d be a lot of fun. I’m trying to figure out a way to do that. But this tournament was a scramble. So, we’re going to chat a little bit about scramles. I know we scrambling, y’all. Scrambling. Scrambling. touch on it a little bit last time, but very I think we just said what it is really quick and just like a basic scramble, but there are several different kinds of scrambles. I didn’t know there’s variations, but a basic scramble is you play best ball. So, what that means is if you’ve got a group of four or if or let’s say it’s just Brooke and I playing, we’re both going to tee off. we’re both going to hit and then whoever’s ball went the furthest or is sometimes it’s not about being the furthest cuz I could hit super far to the right and Brooke can hit maybe less far but it’s in the fairway so whoever’s ball is best not always the furthest best ball you play that one and you basically keep doing that until you’re done and you keep building off of each best ball and then your score is off the best balls Oh, so basically everything else that is hit before the best ball is just like for pra or just you know doesn’t count. It doesn’t matter cuz like if you don’t get the best ball then it’s like well just go pick it up or you know what I mean? You pick up like if Brooke hits best ball and I hit all the way to the right I’m going to go grab that ball and bring it to where the best ball is and we’ll both hit from there. So and that’s what we did honey. And and most cuz the tournament that I played in before that was also a scramble. So, it seems like most tournaments are scrambles. Obviously, not LPJ tournaments or professional, obviously, but there are multiple variations of scrambles. So, I’m going to go over a couple. Let me just let me just read some notes here. Let me just read cuz I’m sure there’s a lot of girls listening, a lot of girls. Like, we’re little girls. A lot of women listening that might have a scramble come up with their work or something, you know? So remember us and come back and listen to this. So there’s a Texas scramble. Teams must use a minimum number of each player’s drive. That’s what a test That’s what a Texas scramble is. So for instance, if Brooke and I are playing with two others, the minimum might be you guys each need to use four of your drives. So maybe Brooke’s the best player that day and all of her drives are good. We can’t use all of her drives. We can only use four of her drives. So that’s a Texas scramble. And then there’s also a Florida scramble. And a Florida scramble is the person whose shot is chosen can’t hit the next shot. So if we’re playing together, you hit the first shot and it’s the best ball. We play that ball, you can’t hit the next shot. Oh, okay. Interesting. I really genuinely didn’t know there were different types of scrambles. I thought it was always the same. Yeah. I’m going to be honest. I always like shake my head like, “Oh, yeah.” Mhm. Like I know stuff. I don’t I didn’t know that either. We’re learning with you, which is nice. Yeah. Like we don’t know, but we are we know enough to be able to be doing this. But Yeah. But honestly, it’s kind of nice cuz I feel like that makes it even a little bit less intimidating. It’s like you don’t need to know everything. You’re going to learn as you go. Yeah. Absolutely. Like anything in life. Absolutely. I’m still learning how to keep score and like how to Yeah. We’ll get on that. That’s going to be another episode, another combo for another day. Yeah, cut that out cuz we don’t want haters. Yeah. Okay. Not that I don’t I like him. I love him. He’s great. She’s like, don’t hurt me. We have a Harry Potter closet here in my house that we refer to as Harry Potter, but I’ve never seen Lord of the Rings either. Okay, so another I I’ve never seen. Okay, anyways, let’s move on. What are we doing? Um, there’s another variation of scramble. It’s called a shambble, and it’s kind of a mix of a scramble and regular play. Girl, I be in the shambles all the time. I’m I am the shambble. It’s me. I am the shambble. It’s me. Um, but a shamble is you guys you guys all hit the ball, like drive the ball, and then you play that first best ball, but then the rest of the way you play your own ball. So, it’s only the first is the best ball and that’s a shambble. That’s a shambble. So, it’s a mix. Okay. It’s a cute little name, Shambble. I just think of shackles and being in the shambles and just story of my life. Shambble sounds like a sad place to be. I don’t want to play a shamble. Yeah, I’m probably good. I’m good on the shambble. No shambles here. No shambles for me. That’s a couple different variations. It’s what a a regular scramble is. If you do scramble, Florida scramble, Texas, Florida, and shamble. Nice. Yeah. So, those are good. Like I said, I knew what a scramble was. Didn’t know that there were multiple variations. I have not played in a tournament yet that uses different variations, but I’m going to ask I’m going to ask my co-workers. Have you ever played in a different type of scramble? Florida, Texas, shamble? and let us know if you know of any other types of scrambles. We’re going to do some more research on seeing if there’s any more variations, but that’s what I found so far. For cool scrambles, maybe we can get videos of us playing around of each way one time. Yeah, that would be fun. Yeah, I actually like that. You make that sound. You sound like shamble. She said that’ll be so fun. That’ll be the best. Wake up. I know. No. So, what else we have to talk about? I’m sorry, Brooke. Do I need to light the stress relief? I’m not stressed. I’m just kind of like out of it today. I don’t know. We’re allowed to be out. I’m okay. I’m fine. I’m fine. Okay. I’m just fine. Somebody help me. Somebody come get her. Anyways, Brooke Brooke seems out of it. This is the way that I looked during the tournament. Although I had fun, I was definitely like I felt off. Mhm. And that definitely plays into your game. Happens. Oh, it definitely plays in your games. I feel like golf is such a mental game that when you feel off and you’re going to play, your game is going to also be off. Yeah. And that’s how I felt on Friday and it definitely showed in my game. Tracy played really well. I think Tracy kept the the the team together. Yeah, my sister Tracy, she kept that team together. She’s real serious about it. Me and Kelsey are just dancing on the car. She had she had a blast, but she just I feel like her golf game has progressed so much that it was it was awesome to see her play so well. She’s tired of playing with us peasants that are It’s me. It’s Oh, she’s tired of me. Well, yeah, she rocked. But we’re sisters, so that’s us up for sure. That’s for sure. It was a good time, though. I I am glad that we got to finally go play a tournament together. And I know and I love playing that core. So, it was so nice. Golf Club of Houston, we’ll come back in time and we will behave ourselves just like we did at the tournament. Well, we we did. We behaved ourselves. Yeah. Yeah, we did. I think we did. We just danced a little bit. No big deal. Check Brook’s Tik Tok out. Yeah, it was fun. Little crime mob. No hurt done. Well, oh, I need to quit singing. Sorry, y’all. Okay, the last thing I’m going to mention about um the last thing I’m going to mention about the tournament that we played in one of the rules that was on the Sorry, I just totally stopped that song. Hard stop. I was like, I got to quit. Nobody wants to hear my little diddy. Somebody come get me. Somebody come get me. Okay, go ahead. I’m serious now. I’m ready. Pork your face. I’m serious now. I’m ready. Okay, one last thing about the tournament that we just played in. On the paper that was on the golf cart, one of the rules was you can only play to par. So, I know a lot of you might not know what par is, some golf terminology, how scoring goes for golf. We’re going to chat about that. Most people I mean, I do know a good bit, but you know, I mean, I know I can explain pars like back of my hand, but I’m still like scoring. I’m still doing math and my hair like what carrying the four, dropping the six. I don’t Yeah. Well, we’ll get there. You know, you know that meme where she’s like and there’s like all these like numbers. That’s me every day of my life. That’s her at least at the golf course a couple times a day. But we’re going to rewind. We are going to chat about par. Bang down, flip it, and reverse it. We’re going to talk about par. We’re going to talk about par scoring in the next episode. So stay tuned for that. That’s going to be a good episode and good knowledge. I’ll have all the math figured out by then, guys. I’m going to have that meme just sitting behind her. Yeah, that’ll be our new logo. Her tea time. Us just figuring all this stuff out. We don’t know what we’re doing. We’re just out here doing it. We’re living life. Yeah, we’re doing I will say it was kind of fun at that tournament because we there was a couple guy groups all around us and one guy came up to us cuz we were teeing off and we could still see them like at the at where the flag the hole was and he came like rode by to catch up with his group and he said, “Oh, can y’all just let us finish?” And and I looked down I was like, “Oh.” We all kind of looked at each other. I go, “Honey, we can’t hit it that far. Y’all are fine.” But the fact that he thought we were going to hit it like how many it was like a par four. It was pretty far. But it did feel good that he like he thought that we were we we looked professional cuz we all had matching tanks polos. We had the confidence of professionals too. Like every time we had a bad shot we were like d like we we expect ourselves to be pros every single time we shoot. We practice that hard or even like attempted to work that hard. But that’s what we expect from ourselves. It’s so silly. good expectation to have. But then our ball rolls off. Yeah. It And I’m like, our shots just our shots don’t match our outfits. But that’s okay because I don’t care what I did. If I looked good doing it and if I got some good content and a picture and a video, honey, I’m telling you that that’s all I need. That day was just off. Yeah. A lot of our days are off. I just keep saying that. All the episodes, our life has just been off. It’s great, but it’s a little off. All our episodes are just saying, “Well, we were just off that day.” People are going to be like, “Do you ever have on days on some?” You know what? Since 2020, I don’t know if I my on days. My on time. I am on time. I’m not always on time, but I’m always when you call. So, well, this has been a lot of fun. Do you have anything else for our viewers? Sorry. Sorry. Do you have anything else for our listeners and our viewers and our friends and our We’re going to do Oh, community here. Well, we’re we’re going to do golf girl confessions. Oh, yeah. We are. Let’s confess. Kind of uh my favorite part of these episodes. I don’t have my megaphone right now, but golf confessions. Try not to wake up my kids downstairs. Shout out to my baby daddy husband Andy for taking care of the boys. This episode is brought to you by Mr. Flanigan. My husband, my little redheaded ginger man. I just I didn’t hear anything you just said. I’m just I’ve got us. We’re good. We’re We’re You just come back when you’re ready, Nicole. We’re all waiting on you. Come on. You got it. Okay. I found my golf girl confession. It’s from Tina. Is that her name or is that the name I gave her? The world may never know. It doesn’t matter. Okay. What does Tina say? So Tina says, “As president of my club, I golfed with our new pro. I was wearing a front closed bra that I hadn’t golfed in before and on a number of swings throughout our round. My bra came undone. I had to I had to walk behind him and quickly do it up.” And then the comment underneath the comment underneath it makes it even better. Somebody commented, “A new definition of free swinging.” That’s hilarious. A little a little Oh, man. little golf outfit malfunction. Oh, yeah. That’s the best. Brooke has this skirt that the shorts underneath are see-through. And I didn’t know that for a very long time until Nicole decided to tell me after I had worn it 25 times. Okay. And the only way that I the only way that I found out was a windy day on the driving range and she’s setting up to hit the ball and her the back of her skirt just flew up and I was like, “Brooke, I can see your whole butt.” And I was like, “Oh.” Cuz I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on the range and I felt it blow up in the midst, but I’m like, “Oh, my shorts are on. It’s fine.” And there’s literally probably 20 dudes line up right behind me on the range. That I know I now know saw my cheeks. And none of them are going to tell you that they’re seeing your cheeks. No, they’re not. Hopefully. You know what? Just It’s fine. It’s fine. Take a load of these. There ain’t much there cuz after I had kids after I had kids, my hips spread. I used to have a decent butt, but it just got sucked right up there. So, there ain’t much to look at now. It used to be not bad. But take a load of these cheeks. Was that the skirt that you wore to the scramble? Cheeks. Was that the black skirt? Yes, it was. Yeah, but I’ve lost a little bit of weight, so I don’t feel like it flies up as I don’t know. It flew up at the golf tournament, I’m pretty sure. Or you or No, you know what? You you know, nothing. I’m not going to say anything. Next golf girl confession, maybe. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we’ll we’ll talk about that later. Okay, so I have a golf girl confession and this is coming from Tammy. Tammy said, “At the time I was young and new to golfing and dating a golfer, 2011-ish, we both lived and worked in Dubai. During one of the friendly tournaments within the British community, since my ex then was British, we regularly placed bets during our games. At almost three holes to finishing the competition, his stomach was on fire. And since he didn’t want to lose, he continued, and the worst happened. He was on the verge of victory, but nature had other plans. Midame his stomach started playing its own match and diarrhea refused to lose and soon flies oh I gotta reread the sentence I can’t even I’m like wait am I about to read this his stomach started fly his stomach started playing its own match and diarrhea refused to lose and soon flies were treating his shorts like a buffet but he didn’t let go of the game sometimes you got to let go Against all odds and odors, he powered through and won. A true hero, a legend. My warrior, my ex then who started who stared down diarrhea and still claimed victory. Some memories will stay forever. If that happens to me, I’m leaving the course. I just want you to know. Just y’all will never see me again. You’ll have to I’ll be missing persons. Mm- I might have to ship me off on a boat and just send me away from now on. And I might bring an extra an extra skirt. But yeah, if that happened to me, I would just leave. There’s no way I’m playing. Imagine like he’s had to sit like was he sitting on a towel? Like I don’t even want to think about it. I don’t want Now the thought of going on a golf cart. But the fact that like men are so serious about that in that way to where he literally had flies flying around his shorts and he still was like, “No, I’ve got to win this game. I’ve got to win this game, this tournament. Like what are we doing? Like not not I not I that’s who we’re that’s who we’re surrounded at the course dudes. Like who cares what they they’re their pants and just don’t even care finishing. It’s not I can’t Isn’t that wild, man? I couldn’t do it. That was a good I almost regret reading them. It’s It’s going to be ingrained in here. honestly kind of just read the the first part and I was like I’m just going to go with it and I’m kind of regretting just going with it but it’s all right.
