I am not good enough for it yet, but I love seeing experienced golfers chip with a really low lofted club and just roll the ball up close to the hole.
I am mostly a SW whore when it comes to chipping.

Op is trying to be helpful but it’s terribly off. Try to fly an 8 iron pitch 40% of the total distance and you’ll be further from the pin than when you started.

My most reliable shot is a bump and run with my 8 iron but I wasn’t sure about distances and just went with ‘feel’, unfortunately I usually ‘feel’ like a tit when I’ve left it 20 yards short

The biggest issue is poor setup and technique shift this by 2-3 clubs. So taking a 52° to do the 40% shot.

I was taught a system from a golf pro as a junior that has worked pretty well throughout my golfing life. This is for a bump and run style chip. 1. Pick out your landing area on the green which is typically about 1 yard onto the green. 2. Pace off the distance between your ball and that landing area. 3. Pace off the distance between your landing area and the pin. 4. Divide #3 by #2 and then count up from your sand wedge. So if it’s ten paces from ball to landing spot on the green and 30 paces from the landing spot to the pin, that would be a pitching wedge (sand wedge, gap wedge, pitching wedge).

Bold of you to assume I get under the ball when I chip

Yeah ok. SW= 150%

Is it only me? Chipping is more difficult for me, pitching gives me more consistency

It’s called the rule of 12.
