Hey everyone, I’m Melissa, an Indianapolis Colts cheerleader for the 2024 season, and this is Believe in Colts. Welcome back to another edition of Believe in Colts. I’m your host, Lawrence Owen, and today we’re looking at uh a home game for the Indianapolis Colts, welcoming in the Las Vegas Raiders. And we’re going to get into that game hardcore because this has got to be a get-right game, right? This has to be a get right game for the Colts after coming off a very heartbreaking loss to the Rams. A game where I feel and many feel the Colts legitimately should have won if it wasn’t just for really bad mental mistakes, right? 11 penalties, damn near to 100 yards, a fumble at the goal line, you know, things of that nature that just that uh just killed two touchdowns and killed a chance at another touchdown cuz let’s not forget the Tyler Warren situation, right, with the whole pass interference that killed a touchdown drive as well. So, the Colts legitimately had a real shot at beating the Rams and they shot themselves in the foot. So, walking in to the Raiders who fought their butts off this past week, uh, Ashton Gentle, sorry about that. Um, yeah, Ashton Genty, the rookie running back, actually had his breakout performance of the year for the Raiders. And we’re going to get into the actual Raiders team. As you know, Gino Smith is now the quarterback, you know, coming back from Seattle over to the Raiders to make get the starting job because Seattle wanted Sam Darnold. And, you know, who blames them? Nobody. Uh right now Gino not having the best season of his life. I’ll I’ll tell you that much right now with the Raiders. But let’s be fair, he’s got one really really good target and then after that, who knows, right? Uh obviously they have the best tight end in football from last year in Brock Bowers, whereas the Colts have obviously the best tight end this year in Tyler Warren. Uh, outside of that, who’s Gino throwing to? Dante Thornton, Trey Tucker, Jacobe Meyers. I mean, come on. Right. Uh, look, I think his his best target is probably Jacobe Meyers over there. Uh, he’s kind of an all-around guy. I New England. New England didn’t want to pay him. Uh, he’s he’s a good route runner. He’s got some pretty decent hands. Uh, I like him as a receiver. However, this is not a good offense. This is not a good defense for the Raiders. All right. Yes, they have Max Crosby over there on defense. And what a dude is Max Crosby. Everybody knows who he is, but he’s he’s a standalone figure over on that team in my opinion. They got a couple guys over there that are all right, okay, that could help the team, but Max Crosby is their only star. man, he he’s a monster star at that, though. I I’ll go I’ll give you that. He’s he’s a top five uh defensive end in the league. Um he just he he just had a batted pass for an interception last week. So, that that says anything about Max Crosby. That’s that’s impressive. But look, this is a game where I feel like the Colts and and they got a bad taste in their lost by a field goal. All right, they had a chance to win the game. I think they got their field goal blocked, I think. something like that if I remember correctly. Uh chance to win last week and they they ended up not winning. Uh I feel like this is a chance where the Colts could legit I mean surely the focus this week in practice for the Colts was don’t make the stupid mental errors, right? Then of course we got to talk about a little bit about the fact that you know Xavier Howard retired, right? So now you got Mai Blackman as a starter and that’s very worrisome for me. Out of 11 targets so far this year, he’s given up nine. And I’m not even counting the 88 yarder where he fell on right to Tutu Atwell last week because uh by the stat line they put that on Cam Binham because he was the closest guy when the ball was thrown which is stupid because that was obviously Mai Blackman’s guy but Mai Blackman is not doing as well as what a lot of people want to say that he is. Now granted, I will say last week against the Rams, that’s just an elite passing attack, right? Matt Stafford was dotting the field, putting it pinpoint precision, making it very tough for any cornerback to defend. Okay. Uh including Cam Ward. You know, when Cam was on uh uh Puka, he even got burnt a couple times, right? So, it’s not going to be the same with this Raiders offense. Okay. Uh, the Raiders right now have the same The Raiders offense is not good. Just let’s just discuss that right now. This is not the best This is not the best offense that the Colts have faced at all this year. And uh I feel like we could definitely do better than what this than what we did last week against this defense. Uh who are we going to beat and why? Well, offensively, I feel like we’ve got a lot of weapons, especially if Alec Pierce can get back. We got a solid amount of weapons that we could throw the football to. Uh, the Colts right now are the fourth ranked offense in the NFL scoring wise. They have the fourth best passing attack in the NFL. That’s right, with Daniel Jones at quarterback. And we have the number one running back in the NFL, right? And Jonathan Taylor. And this defense is about equal passing defense for the Raiders is about equal to the Colts. I mean, almost dead heat. They they’re giving up close to the same completion percentage. They’re giving up basically the same yardage. The only difference is they’ve given up a few less touchdowns, but they haven’t gotten as many interceptions as the Colts have. So, the fact of the matter remains that they are almost a dead heat when it comes to passer rating allowed. So, in my aspect, with our offense being that much better passing wise, and I feel like the Colts should absolutely just blow this one up and get a lot of points on this board. Uh, defensively, we better stop the run because, as I said, Gentry is is is a is a legit running back. He finally got his breakout game. We got to not miss tackles. And we’ve done a lot better about that this year. The Indianapolis Colts have. But you can’t let it happen because it’s not just Gentry. Okay. We cannot forget the fact that they got Raheem Mozer as well who could take it to the house at any given moment. So, we got to make our tackles. That is the first thing we got to do. Now, if we could stop the run and force them under four yards a carry, that’s going to put a lot of pressure on Gino Smith, who’s not had a good season at all. At all. He just come off of, I think, I believe, three interceptions last week, if the Colts can duplicate that defensively, this is a blowout win. All right. I honestly feel like the Raiders, this is a this is a game that the Indianapolis Colts should win hands down. But we can’t overlook the Raiders, right? Obviously, uh, historically, the Colts and Raiders, they they each every time they faced each other, they’re on a dead heat. Both teams have won 11 games out of 22 matchups. Okay? Now, I generally don’t go into the past when it comes to, you know, predicting the future, but it just goes to show that the fact of the matter is they’re not in the same division and they play each other about every four years because of that, you know, the rollover taking turns on on what division you play uh from year after year after year. So, you don’t see them very often. So, you can’t overlook a team even when they’re not doing well. I don’t think the Colts will end up doing that. I think the Colts I think the one thing that I feel like the Colts have to do offensively is get Jonathan Taylor going. Okay. Uh now, the Raiders okay run defense. They’re okay run defense, but after Jonathan Taylor had a a 56 yard called back due to that holding call, you got to feel like that this team has really got to try to focus down and get him back over the 100 yard mark. And I’m not saying 30 carries for 100 yards either. I don’t want to see 3.3 yards a carry. I want to see some because look, the Colts offensive line, even though they’ve been protecting Daniel Jones really well, especially against the Blitz since he’s the most blitzed quarterback in the league, they haven’t been opening running lanes nearly well enough against for Jonathan Taylor. All right. Jonathan Taylor is only getting like a yard or so about a yard before contact on average where he’s getting over three almost four yards of yards after contact. That tells me he’s not getting the holes he needs to get. Now, to be fair, we faced some pretty good run defenses so far this year between the Rams, the Broncos, and the Titans. All right, so I I I’ll give them that. But if the Colts could just open up a few lanes for Jonathan Taylor against the Raiders, Jonathan Taylor could have a monster monster game. And the Colts as a whole could have a monster game rushing the football. I mean, we might even see Tyler Warren in there a few times. I know some people are like, “Oh, I want to see Anthony Richardson.” You’re you’re not going to see Anthony Richardson unless it’s another situation where we’re up 20 po 20 plus points in the fourth quarter. You’re just you’re you’re not um what would be the point? Because Daniel Jones can run the football too, right? They’re they’re playing these RPOS’s with Daniel and every once in a while J Daniel will take off with the football. I’ve seen it a couple times so far. Most of the time he he wants to pass the ball rather than or or hand it off rather than him run it and I 100% 100% agree with that decision makingaking on his part because I don’t want him getting hit. All right. That’s the problem with Anthony Richardson is he kept the ball too much on RPOS’s and took off with it. And that’s how you get your quarterbacks hurt. Daniel Jones is like, “No, man. I’ll let Taylor run it or I’ll throw the ball unless it’s very obvious that this, you know, naked bootleg that I’ll take if if I keep it is going to be there, right? So leave his scrambling for specifically that under pressure. Let him use use his running ability to escape pressure. Run up the gut for 17 yards and a first down on third third and long. Right. That’s that’s what we need to lead Daniel Jones up to. Um, so if we get the running game going, obviously that’s going to bring down safeties and then next thing you know, Alec Pierce hopefully, who is hopefully back. He’s he’s on a good course right now to be back from that concussion, can have a monster game, a welcome back game. That’s what I’d like to see from Alec Pierce. And why haven’t we resigned Alec Pierce yet? I mean, obviously, obviously Pierce is not going to want to sign right now. He’s going to wait till the end of the year. I feel like they should have signed him in the off season because you’re not going to sign him during the season when he’s having a really good year. Okay? Because he’s he’s going to bet on himself so that he can make more money. And that’s scary because I’m now I’m afraid that the Colts won’t be able to afford to keep him and pay Daniel Jones if Daniel Jones continues playing at the rate he’s been playing cuz he’s definitely had the worst worst game of his career with the Colts. Three, four games and it was still over an 80 passer rating. It just worries me. Okay. So, let’s see what where this goes and let’s flip to the defense because I want to talk about Lu who right now is a top five pass rusher in the league when it comes to uh just overall pass rush win rate pressures. Uh he hasn’t gotten all the quarterback hits or sacks yet, but they’ll come. They’ll come, especially this week since the Raiders lost their uh uh outside tackle. Expect Lu to have a big game against backup. And that’s that’s something that I I I’m fully expecting. Nick Cross having game of his or season of his career right now. Zero missed tackles. Remember last year when the Colts were having, you know, problems missing tackles all the time? Nick Cross was right up there with with the the worst of them this year. Blanket. No missed tackles at all. Good for you, my guy. Love to see it. Plus, he’s playing the pass much much better. Now, he’s he’s he’s made his mistakes obviously. you know, there has been opportunities there where he’s made a mistake where he could have made a play on the ball or or should have, but um I think buying him is a big help in that area, you know, keeping his mind set that he could watch him and see how uh to pass, you know, defend a pass uh much better than, you know, Blackman that that he was he was looking at uh in previous years. Uh Cam Binham is just a much much better safety than Blackman was. A lot of people want to give uh straight up a lot of Colts fans still wanting a on Zier Franklin. He had a bad game against the Rams. Four missed tackles. Now he hadn’t missed a tackle up to that point. He just had a bad game. Okay. Hopefully he cleans that up. again, mental mistakes. Hopefully, he’s able to clean that up uh this upcoming week and get back on track to what he was before last week. Um but so far overall on the season, I like where Zire Franklin is sitting. All right. Um obviously the the defensive front in my opinion are is just going to have they got to have a day, not just stopping a run, but getting pressure um you know on Gino. Um, now Gino again is a mobile quarterback and we’ve had problems against mobile quarterbacks. We got to Stafford three times last week, got sacks three times and a ton of pressures because he’s not what I would consider a mobile quarterback. He escaped the pocket one time and took him three and a half months to get 12 yards. Okay. uh when no one was even around him and there was nobody and I just sat there and I was like really dang he’s slower than Pton Manning was and we couldn’t get to him because there was nobody around him. That’s not going to happen with Gino Smith. Gino’s got some quickness to him. He he he can run the football. So, we got to set the edges and get in there and get to him. um get some sacks, get some pressures because when he throws the ball, he’s one of the worst right now in the league throwing the football under pressure. Um so maybe we can walk out of this with some sacks or some turnovers and or turnovers, right? Uh Cole’s doing pretty good in the turnover market right now. Uh still doing very well in turnover margin on the season. I I think the the the defense could step up. I’m just a little bit worried about um the injuries that we have in the secondary uh and the depth that we have currently. Um obviously the Colts secondary, we got to get pressure because they need help bad right now. uh with the injuries and and and and depth problems that we have. Uh the good thing is is they don’t have a Devonte Adams or a Puka Nua, right? Like I said, I’ I’ve already talked about who their receivers are. Um and as long as as somebody can stay step by step with Jacobe Meyers, uh and Dante Thornton and Trey Tucker, I think we’ll be all right. The guy we have to worry about mostly is obviously Brock Bowers because we don’t have a tight end that can cover him. We got to put a safety. That’s just flat fact. One of our safeties needs to be on Brock Bowers. Probably Nick Cross is who I would put on him because quite frankly, I’d rather have Cam Binham as that safety net. All right? because he has been playing that role absolutely wonderfully all year long. So, I think that’s that’s that’s my thought process. That’s my breakdown. Um, and the keys to the uh the Colts possibly getting a victory this week. I am going to make my predictions. Guys, uh before I drop my predictions real quick, I want to ask you please, if you’re watching this on YouTube, please smash that like button. 1. I get it with tyler Warren on the penalty but ABSOLUTELY NOT Mitchell does not need to see the field Raiders are gonna run the ball alot

  2. Kinda glad I was camping on a mountain with no service last Sunday. I'd have had a heart attack.
Gotta right the ship vs Vegas, slow down Jeanty, pressure Geno and a steady diet of JT, Warren and if AP is back… take some shots!

  3. Been a little disappointed with Rainhamm this yr but he’s still a lm above avg LT so can’t complain too much. I’d love to see Tyler Warren get a few legit carries this week, dudes a beast.
