More Than a Ride: How Veteran-Owned ‘The Golf Cart Girls’ Are Changing Cleveland Transportation

So, we are in downtown Cleveland with one of the coolest new options for transportation. And I shouldn’t say new because you’ve probably seen them around, but the golf cart girl, CL, I am with her right now, Britney Taylor. Good morning. Good morning. Okay, so you’re the founder of this, you and your husband. Yes. Okay, you’ve got to tell me about it. It’s so hard to describe to people. Um, the best way I can describe it, it’s like Uber but golf carts. Okay. So, it’s a ride share. Yes, it’s ride sharing, taxi service. Um, if you wanted to do a date night and you just wanted a private ride, you could do that as well. I love that. How did you come up with this idea? My husband did. A he should if I was talking to him, hopefully he would have given you credit and been like, “Oh, my beautiful wife.” So, he came up with the idea. Did he feel like, “Okay, there’s a need for this.” Yes. But also he has this real passion for golf carts. A so when we met anytime we go camping, we would go to plays uh park all the time. Had to rent a golf cart. We couldn’t go anywhere if we couldn’t rent a golf cart. So we got me into it. It just kind of took off from there. We went and visited my family in Myrtle Beach. Golf carts are everywhere down there. There was golf cart dealerships. We went looked and we’re like, you know, I think we’re doing this. Oh, how fun. And now here we are actually doing this. So, what makes you guys unique? Um, you know, we are a veteranowned company. My husband and I are both veterans. He’s prior Marine. I’m prior Army. I’m actually a disabled veteran. So, walking is difficult for me. Yeah. Which is one of the other reasons for these. Also, we have two lithium ion batteries in the back. So everything is battery powered, eco-friendly, no fumes or nothing to add to pollution. We try to be as eco-friendly as possible. Thank you for your service too, by the way. Oh, you’re very welcome. So talk to me about options, right? Because when I think of Golf Cart, yes. I think of like seeing them whether it’s Putin Bay or some of these different areas. But we can get this and you can drive us around right here in Cleveland to different events. Yes. Yes. So, we want to focus mostly downtown Cleveland because it’s kind of like what we call the last mile. Uber doesn’t really come down here. Every a lot of things are disconnected from walking. So, let’s say we’re going over to a Browns game and we are able to get right in there with the golf cart. You can drop us off. Yeah. So, closer than we would be able to get with a car. Um Yes. Because they block off the streets at I think it’s like 11:00. They block off um at Lakeside. Yes. So, we would have curb access because you have ADA, disabled, you know, some people have a broken bone. Yeah. Which is one thing I wanted to talk to you about because you and I were chatting a little bit earlier and you said, you know, if you’ve got someone who’s pregnant or Yeah. you’ve got a broken bone and or someone who just doesn’t want to have to walk outside and get sweaty, right? It’s like we put on our makeup. We did our hair. Yes. You know, girls unhealed. Yeah. So many a terrible walk. and you’re like, I still want to look cute. I did it in my 20s. Go to the club. You’re like, I know about this. So, that’s another option, too, just to go and have fun with your friends, whether it’s a bachelor party or just like you said, date night lowkey. So, you can take us to events. And then, do you guys do any tours? We do. Oh, we have a couple that we’re working on. We are It’s like an Instagram tour. All the nice sites in Cleveland. Little history. We had the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. Yes. Um the Superman statue, all of our Cleveland signs, the little script signs. So this is something. Would we be able to stop then and take pictures? Yes. Oh, cool. Yes. Okay. So that’s a nice option. We’re very laidback. If you wanted to stop and take a moment. Absolutely. Is you guys drive us, so it’s not something that we have to worry about that we will be driving. Correct. Yes. Okay. So it is you have a driver. Yes. Taking you where you need to go, especially if you’re from out of town. So, do you have a lot of people that are coming in from out of town? Yes, we do. Oh. A lot of people have told us they want to come in specifically to use the service to go somewhere. Doesn’t that make you feel really cool? It really does. Well, yeah. And that’s really special, right? Cuz you’re adding into the community. So, like you said, Cleveland area. Now, what if we want to go to Ohio City, Tmont? Also an option. Yes. Okay, great. Yeah. Essentially from like West 25th area to like East 25th area and then Tmont’s not far. So, no, not at all. skipping a jump that way. I know. Very easy to get there. So, if someone wants to, whether it’s plan something, a date night or just, you know, we’ve got friends coming into town and we want to get around. What’s the best place to book a ride with you? So, we have all of our social medias. We have a Facebook, an Instagram, a Tik Tok. Um, I think technically we have Snapchat, too, but all the socials.
