Johnny Miller explains the key to gaining power in the golf swing through the proper release of the club head. Johnny explains that this is how Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan get all their power.
In this Johnny explains the proper release to square the club face, compress the golf ball and even draw and hook the ball. Perfect for those golfers trying to fix a slice in the golf swing.

and another way of thinking it is is this left thumb I want you to think of this your thumb starts at the ball doesn’t matter what kind of grip you have that thumb is going to point at the ball and when you go back everybody’s way over here and you’re coming down here and boy this thumb now has got a lot of work to do to get back to that ball when you get down in here so you got to know that it doesn’t keep stand here if your thumb hangs back here pointing there you’re going to be a slicer a push slicer you got to know that a lot of the power in golf comes from the thumbs here and then just this much this much time it goes Bo and the club moves 5T that’s where the pros get all that power you don’t see is because the average amateur gets up here and he comes down here and he goes like this there’s no crossover power where a lot of Pros like a Tiger Woods will get down here real deep or Hogan Ben Hogan real here then in just one little flash they go and they get all that crossover power that’s where a lot of the power comes by taking that thumb getting it back to square at impact or if you draw it making the thumb actually get ahead of the ball at impact and that’s a draw and then you hit that way okay another way of thinking about it is when you come in here is try to Palm up with a left hand instead of instead of palming this way which makes the ball go over that way is if you come in here and palm up here early real early Palm this way the ball’s going to draw you’re going to hook the ball another way to look at it is what most people do is I pretend there’s an arrow going right through my wrist there’s a hole in your wrist here points pretty much at the ball okay okay point right at the ball what most people do is the arrow now of course is pointing right here somewhere when you get in here you got to get that Arrow Head now to go back to the ball or even lead and so what you want to do is lead with this part of your wrist and have this part behind watch this I’m going to try to hit a few of these I’m going to make that arrow point right at the ball thumb Point At The Ball come down here I’m wait and then I’m going to I’m going to hit the left side of the range by almost leading that way and overdo it at first Palm it down too much at first and watch watch you do I’ll just what I’ll do is I’ll get right in here watch this right here here turn it over you see and now you see that ball hooking right at the pin right there

HOLY CRAP NEVER HEARD OF THE THUMB AT IMPACT!!!!!!!! I WILL BE AT THE GOLF COURSE AT 7AM TO TRY THIS. HOLY CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPP……. SUBSCRIBED…
JM would have a 10hcp scratch in a year, a 20hcp to a 8. Etc. One of the greatest golf minds going IMO! Sure miss his commentary, Kisner and Kauffman couldn't be in the same booth with this guy.
Mr Millar thank you so much for everything
Thx mr miller
Best advice ever
Can’t wait for spring 😎
Because of this my drive went from 180m to about 250m average. If you don't believe me go and try it. 👍
Johnny is so sincere with what he's trying to convey.. but he's a terrible teacher… He just gave you 15 swing thoughts 😂 Basically you just have to cast that reel at the ball.. it's a new sensation.. the control of that comes by keeping your hands on the path they start.
Excellent ❤
The golfers of the past were far better ball strikers … back in the day it was about making a good swing and striking the ball with tempo. They were more focused on the text book swing and hitting the sweet spot. Was more about accuracy than power. Nowadays it's just power power power. Everyone whacks the ball 350 Hitting 200 yard 7 irons , 160 yard pw I saw one dude a few days back hit a 250 yard 5 iron I know modern lofts are strong and shafts are longer … better balls , perimeter weighted etc etc. for me the golf game has lost its finesse. I used to love watching Ernie els and Freddie couples. Beautiful swings …finesse , rhythm, tempo Payne Stewart , VJ , Curtis strange , Faldo , Norman It was all about swinging the club and striking the ball. Now it's just power power power Imo the golfers from the past were far better ball strikers used to watch golf and would enjoy watching pga pros swing. Now it's all about who hits it the longest and what's the newest equipment that will give me more distance
He’s still the greatest middle-iron striker I’ve ever seen.
I like how the subtitles cover the mans hand and the video is about the thumb
Miller was good. Won 2 majors. He admitted the worst thing he did, was, lift weights. This ruined his smooth, flexible swing. Tiger Woods made the same mistake. Flexibility is key to winning in golf.
Is it "phweeeew" or "thwittt" through impact? My thumb works ok but I need the noise for more speed. My driver is only carrying 278.
Can't really see the thumb lol
This is how Rory gets all his power. All thumb baby!
Excellent job. Today's non playing grus teach just the opposite. They can't break 80
