PALM HARBOR, Fla. – The College of Coastal Georgia Men’s Golf team turned in a solid performance at the prestigious Invite at Innisbrook, hosted by Dalton State College, finishing seventh overall in a competitive 20-team field that featured 14 nationally-ranked programs.
The Mariners notably outperformed host Dalton State and perennial powerhouse Oklahoma City University.
Leading the way for Coastal Georgia was Antonio Juarbe, who finished tied for 5th individually. Juarbe posted rounds of 69, 73, and 73, finishing two-over par for the tournament. Jake Ackerman also contributed solidly with a 29th-place finish at 11-over par.
Head Coach Mike Cook, a recent inductee into the NAIA Hall of Fame, praised his team’s effort and resilience throughout the three-round event. “There were 14 nationally-ranked teams… it was a very strong field,” said Cook. “Under those circumstances, it’s not a bad finish. We were only 11 shots out of 2nd place.”
The Mariners will return to action on October 12, when they host SCAD Savannah in an 18-hole match at Sanctuary Cove in Waverly, Ga.
