Pitch Shot Distance Control | GolfPass

[Music] Hi, Golf Pass. I’m Carolyn Pineer and today we’re going to talk about a super simple way how to deal with these awkward in between distance shots like 30 to 50 yards from the pin. And it’s super hard to really feel like what should I be thinking about? How far should I be taking the club back? How far should I be swinging the club through? And I want to move away from the technical piece here. I do love a good clock, you know, indication to say, “Oh, you should go to 10:00, 9:00, 8:00.” But really, we can simplify this even further. And to do this, I want you to really just step up to a practice swing. And we’ve all done this before. We’re taking our stance and we’re just kind of feeling our pitching motion right here. We’re not thinking about how far we’re taking it back. We’re just swinging the club halfway back, halfway through approximately. But really, there is no system to this madness just yet. And that’s exactly the point. I want you to be able to establish your core speed. Everybody has a core speed. And when you step up, you just start swinging. And now this core speed, once we’ve established it, is what we’re working with for this tip going forward. All we’re going to do is we’re going to reduce our core speed by about 10% and increase our core speed by about 10%. So that gives us three different shots, three different distances, and we have changed nothing technically. And that’s really what golf is about when you’re playing it. And I was a player my whole life. And really being able to give you guys tips that you can apply on the golf course that aren’t filling your mind with more swing thoughts is what I’m here for. So without really looking at the target at this point, we’re going to hit one shot, one pitch with our core speed. And I’m going to take another little practice swing to just establish my core speed here. It’s about this. This feels really natural to me. I’m not feeling like I adding or or deducting anything. Going to step up and just going to hit that shot with my core speed, replicating that simple motion. So, that felt really natural to me. It happened to pretty much land right where the pin is. But that’s really not the focus of this. I want you to just pay attention how different our distances are now going to become. So now I’m going to make the exact same motion. I’m not thinking about the length of my swing. I’m not trying to shorten it. I’m not trying to make it any longer. But this time, let’s increase our speed through the ball by about 10 to 15%. And again, this doesn’t have to be perfect. This is really just a feel thing. And on the golf course, that’s what we have to do. We have to feel. So again, little practice swing. Core speed first. And then we’re going to start adding a little bit more ump. See how I’m just added about 15% to that core speed that we just established. So, let’s hit a ball with this and see where that lands. It landed in the hole, but it actually carried a lot further than the first one. And that’s exactly what this will do. And I have changed absolutely nothing technically. It is so simple to do this. And now as last one, we’re going to do a reduction of that speed by 10 or 15%. Again, do your core speed. Make sure you find that core speed. And now, as we’re going through, I just want you to feel like you’re actually reducing that speed just a bit from your standard. Again, not a perfect science. This is all about feel. So, let’s hit a shot with that reduced stock feel. As you can see, that ball actually landed the shortest of all of them, which is exactly what we’re trying to do here. Really gives us a non-technical pitching system for those awkward in between distances without having to think about a clock face, without having to think about technical stuff, and just thinking about your core speed, increasing your speed a little bit, decreasing it a little bit, using your throttle, and just being your best pitcher you can possibly be.
