Tensions flared on the 15th hole at Beth Paige Black on Saturday afternoon as emotions boiled over during a fiery Rder Cup fourballs match involving Scotty Sheffller’s Caddy, Ted Scott, and members of Team Europe. The heated exchange capped off what has already been a contentious two days with Shane Lowry nearly confronting an unruly fan and Rory Mroy launching into an exploit of laden tirade earlier in the competition. The latest flash point unfolded when Justin Rose asked Bryson Dshambo’s caddy Gregory Bodin to move out of his line while reading a putt. After Rose drained the putt and gave an emphatic fist pump, Dambo quickly answered back with a birdie of his Own W and they asked the group walked toward the 16th T. Dambo caught up to Tommy Fleetwood to share his thoughts on the celebration while Ted Scott turned his attention to Rose. Words were exchanged before European Vice Captain Franchesco Molinari stepped in to diffuse the situation. The confrontation escalated when Scott gave Molinari a light shove and got nose-nose with him. Fleetwood and his caddy Ian Finnies rushed in to separate the pair before matters spiraled further. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. Dashambo urged everyone to move on, repeating, “Let’s play.” as they made their way to the next tea. Rose ultimately had the last word, carding a par on the 16th to seal a 3-2 victory for Europe alongside Fleetwood. Despite the midround dust up, there were no lingering hard feelings. All four players and their caddies shook hands at the conclusion of the match. Reflecting afterward, Rose admitted that the situation escalated more than it should have. “It was a shame the match got to that point because it was actually a really great match,” Rose said. “Maybe I didn’t say it as politely as I could have in the moment, but there was no disrespect intended. It was just a misunderstanding.” He added that the quality of play was what really mattered. Tommy played incredible around the turn and it was an epic match to be part of. Honestly, the standard of golf was exceptional.
