players. Let me tell you the truth about Tacoma ions. We had Luke one telling us the truth about Tacoma ions and he said that there’s just blocks of metal. There’s just blocks of metal. But you know what? It’s kind of true, but it’s a bit of a misnomer because every forged iron starts as a chunk of metal. Luke has never been in the production of golf clubs, so he doesn’t really know that, which he admits himself. I don’t know what I’m talking about. Now, I have made my own golf clubs and I make my own putters. And what I’ve come to understand is that a forged iron starts off as a piece of metal roughly in the shape of an iron head. It can either come to the factory as a block of metal in that shape already or a block of metal that’s heated and then stamped by a huge machine just stamping the front and back of the club. That cooled down piece of metal is then put into a groove machine and a CNC machine to mill the aesthetics. Every single forge club that you find that’s process has been done. Not a single forge club has been hand manufactured by a blacksmith. Otherwise, you’d be paying $5 to $10,000 a set. Tacomao are also blocks of metal and then they are milled into this shape. Okay, that’s a 2011 and then that’s a MB. So that’s a blade iron. You put the head into the milling machine and it will go and work its action. creating the final product. It will be a smooth face and they put it into a groove machine. Makes the grooves. They polish it up. They maybe electroplate it, you know, get it looking nice and flush. That’s it. That’s the manufacturer of a head. Where Tacomao comes in that is completely different is let me show you what I’ve made. Okay, I’ve made my own ions. Look at this bad boy. This is a beautiful looking iron, right? Look at this. Now, the main part of these irons is that it’s a block of metal. Sure, but it’s the composition of the freaking metal that makes the difference. Okay, this one looks beautiful. I mean, I could play that. I wanted to make my own irons until Tacoma approached me to play theirs. And the reason I gave up making my own is this very reason. The composition of the steel in the block of steel is what’s going to make the biggest difference to the feel and performance of the club. If you have a crappy composition, cheapass metals, you’re going to get what I have here, a very hard feeling iron. Then I decided to make softer feeling irons and I sourced better materials. So look at this 7 iron, right? Look at that. Look at that. That silver color one. Beautiful. And then the black color blade. Now these feel fantastic. They feel amazing. But the amount of money I had to spend on these materials inside this metal in the block of metal was exorbitant. And then on top of it, okay, I also made a wedge, but whatever. On top of it, okay, they came a block of metal, CNC, bam, polished, beautiful, but but the cost is crazy expensive to get the softness that I have got. Then the shaft, look at this black shaft I put in here. Not good enough. I had to put the KBS in, right? So, I made a beautiful head. I put my KBS shafts in and it performs great. But if I were to sell this, oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. The only way I could actually make a niche for myself is to make it extremely customized. Grips and engravings and decorations and paint effects to make it a little bit different. The fact, and this is the key, the fact that Tacoma can make an MB muscle back and a CB cavity back that feels as soft as it does. I mean, even the 101 might be I’m not sure if it’s forged, but might be cast, but whatever. Let’s talk the 101 out of it. C CB and MB, right? They are forged. So, they’ve made the soft head. No, I cannot make it any softer than what Tacoma have. Then they paired with a KBS freaking shaft and standard issue linen grips for 700 bucks, four iron to pitching wedge. I can’t do that. I can’t do that. No matter how I try to source stuff, there’s no way I could do that. That’s why I started playing Tacomao because I thought, hell, I can’t compete with that. I can’t do that. And that’s why I play Tacomao. That’s why I stopped uh pursuing making golf clubs. And I started focusing more on putters because putters are also milled in the exact same way that the the irons are, except they’re much easier and much nicer. So this is one that I milled out of 303 steel. And I’ve got a titanium Damascus inlay. And these are done exactly the same way. It’s a block of steel and you source the steel, the 303 steel. You source it from a great factory. You get it brought in. Then you have it milled. You have it electroplated. And then you do the painting with a little little I did it myself. And to get the grip and the nice shaft and the beautiful face, everything this I can do. I can make something nice. But Tacoma, man, I I don’t know how to do. I don’t know how they do what they do. And that’s the fact of the matter with Tacoma is it’s soft. It’s got KBS shafts. It’s got lumpin grips. All for under 700 bucks. If I had to make my irons that I had sourced with the materials I sourced that feel the same as a Tacomao, I can’t charge less than a thousand bucks a set. That’s just crazy. So that’s the really the truth of Tacoma. It’s not just a block of steel. It’s also the fact that that steel feels good. That steel is high quality. And then the shafts they put in there are KBS and you get Lamin grips. Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy. I’ve got myself water player grips, a KBS shaft and a head. I can’t compete. So that’s why I play Tacoma. Hey, I got to interject here because I just got myself a Ignis D1 driver. I didn’t play the Tacoma Ignis first driver that they made. They were putting hazardous smoke shafts in them. I can’t hit clubs with hazardous smoke shafts in. Then I was on a trip with them in Italy shooting some content with Tacoma and Cam, one of the guys on the crew, had one of these drivers sent to him. And while we’re on the range, I’m hitting my new Titus that I’ve been fitted for by Eric and it’s going like And I pick up the Ignis D1 and I think, you know what, I got fitted for the tight list because it has a very square looking face and so does the Ignis. See, it doesn’t like open up much on the toe and the face is just plain. There’s no white inside these grooves. So immediately I look down at it and I go, “Oh, damn. What y’all done? What y’all done had been done here?” This one has a S5 red Ventus in. Now, that’s another thing I liked about it. If you pair a shaft with a head of often the head and the shaft just work well together, and this does work well. But because Cam plays a 5S, I just said, “Hey, Cam, can I take your driver?” So, he gave me the driver. I’ll put the Ventus Black 6X inside here that I have in my Callaway Rogue, and then I want to see the results. But it’s like a little fairway finder. I don’t feel like I want to swing it hard. And I feel like when I tear it up and look down at it, it’s going to be good. Please be be serious here. I don’t like driver much, right? Took me ages. Eric fit me for the Ping G400. He fit me for the Titus. Even still, those things can go off the boil very quickly. This Ignis D1, I’m very fussy with driver. I won’t play a club I don’t like. Right. When you see what’s in my bag, that’s what I like. If it’s not in my bag, I’m not liking it. So, to put this in my bag was a humongous step. And it was just like a instant hell yeah. I mean, look at it. Look at it. I can’t believe it. And it’s just like it feels like very similar to the tailor made Qi 35 or Qi 10 that I hit when being fitted. It feels like it does work for you. I’m not just biging it up, right? I’m really critical when it comes to a driver. I have to be super critical because I can’t BS a BSER like you Chingala Kbrrons at home. Now, let’s go. Let’s try hit it a bit harder. Oh, you see what happens. Now, let’s try hit it a bit firmer. And it goes exactly the same, man. Give me one more. I’m loving it. Give me one more. Yep. How many you got? Two. For reals. You know me and my driver. We’re not the best of friends, so never have been. But this is absolutely money that those two went exactly the same location. Let’s go easy again. Oh, damn. Now, if I put the correct shaft in here, I think that uh I think that ball flight’s going to neaten up real good. We also have a wind off the left pretty strong. Very good shot. Wow. Hey, very good job. I must say, not bad. Not bad. They’ve done a good job. And I think part of that is putting Ventus in their drivers. And oh man, that’s actually very tasteful. Very nice. Clean. Very very good shot. That was a big a big toe strike. The first one. The first one was here. Second one big toe strike. Now, I play with Tim Urban in Italy, and I was trying to guide him around the course, but he told me he hit the driver about 295 to 300, and he’s using this Ignis D1 with the correct shot for him in it. I couldn’t guide him around the course. The score was terrible because he kept carrying it. I’m not kidding. Carrying it 320 to 325. Carrying the Ignis D1. So when I saw him hitting that and then they brought one to the range, I was very impressed enough to stick it in the bag. This was the first one. Decent strike. The two toe strikes, which is very encouraging cuz I’m a tow striker sometimes, have gone the exact same distance, almost a meter apart there. I’ll show you. I’m going to shoot this back to the tree. That’s 301. That tree is exactly in line with the green with the T. So, we’ve hit these drives exactly 300 yards. Now, could I gain more from my custom fitted uh tight list? You know what? I probably could. I’m going to see if I can get the Ventus black shaft put in. And look at these two. Those are the two tow strikers. Just exactly the same distance as the the creamer. And what I need is a flat shot, a flat face driver, no color on the face, and a driver that protects my toe hits. I I can’t believe it. They I mean, really, I’m very skeptical with drivers. That’s a money one.

  1. I have the 201’s and the Skyforger Wedges Really thinking about the Ignis D-1 driver for next season.

Hope you goto your guy Eric and get the correct shaft.

    Thank You

  2. I have Takomo 101T’s, the price made them accessible and they play amazing, full disclosure, I am comparing them to like twenty year old Taylormade Bubble shafts, but the 101t’s are sick

  3. But can’t get fitted for them.

Mizuno forged 925s…cannot imagine the Takomos get near them, but as you can’t hit one – hard to know.

  4. Sure, Bryson is playing and Kevin Hart is his caddie… but…. the way of the playa requires our attention

  5. Baus Matt is a grove machine. Maybe the NZ crew could make an appearance on this channel. Because Taco and Sam would be a dang hoot. Kwon, just here for the shots.

  6. I beat my lowest (77) round yesterday after watching one of your Break whichever videos. Been struggling in the 90's. One of my most enjoyable rounds in a while. I gave up trying to max out every drive. Played to my strengths rather than weaknesses. I noticed you play the tips and rarely hit driver. Anyways, I appreciate you and your style!! Hope to see you in Thailand Bra. Stay cool Playa lol

  7. Appreciate the comprehensible explanation of basic club manufacturing for someone like me who knows basically nothing about the equipment side of golf. Also what a powerful way to explain exactly what the value proposition is with Takomos . . . plain language, no hype, no spin, just facts. Love it. Probably sold me if/when I can afford clubs, no kidding.

  8. This dude is the truth. I defy anyone to watch his content and find a lie.

    Matty Ice baby!!!

  9. I have their skyforger wedges absolutely love them!! Wish i got the iron set before i already bought my set of taylormades which cost a fortune and basically the same exact club!

  10. $800 for factory irons is better than making them yourself but still $400 more than they need to be.

  11. there is a big difference in the sole of the iron. My biggest turn off is the not having a triple cut sole or something like srixon irons. Your paying 700 but you dont get to choose your shaft and get a worse design of an iron. I am looking at the apex forged rn.

  12. A youtube channel THE PROCESS has a video "Japanese factory making forged golf irons". The skill level and labour intensiveness impressed me.

  13. I’m surprised at the revelation that equipment helps at all. I’ve been watching you for years, and I seem to recall in much earlier videos that equipment was inferior over mindset and course management?

Look, I’m not opposed at all. It’s been my thought for years. I think it’s worth an explanation to your loyal followers who may wonder what changed your approach.

  14. Good on Matty BB, explaining why clubs cost so much. I'm waiting to get some money and I'm buying your dead bug putter!

  15. You're an awesome brand ambassador with the explanation of the importance of metal quality. Also if you are picky about the shafts just order the heads and get what you like installed at local shop 😊

  16. Love my Takomos playa. Got them for free from a contest and they immediately beat out my Callaway irons to go in the bag. I love the 201s so much that I bought 2 of their wedges, the sf002 and I'm absolutely loving them too. I know lots of people just think it's a YouTube gimmick brand but for me I've seen what they can do, have no monetary obligation to play them, have other options, and will vouch for this brand all day.
