Johnstown, PA. – It was a tight race on day two of the Sunnehanna Collegiate as the top five teams in the field were separated by just 10 strokes, with the 2nd through sixth place teams being separated by five strokes. The Wheeling University Men’s Golf team found themselves right in the thick of the race, finishing in a tie for third with a season-best three day score of 862. They finished as the top Mountain East Conference (MEC) team at the event and saw all of their scoring golfers shooting a 76 or better on the day.

Leading the effort for the Cardinals was Graduate Student Sean Dobson, who finished with a three-day score of 208. After shooting a sub-70 score in the first two rounds, Dobson was looking to keep the success going in round three. He began his day with a par on hole seven, and as he hit the turn he sat at +1. He added another stroke as he started the back nine, but evened it out with a birdie on hole 11. The rest of the back nine saw him par on the final seven holes and he sat even as he finished out the day. He would keep the par streak going, hitting par on the first four holes of the front nine, and he finished adding one stroke on hile five before hitting par on hole six to round out the day. It would bring Dobson’s round score to 72 (+2) as he rounded out a strong tournament. Dobson led the Cardinals for the second time in five tournaments this season and looks to continue that momentum at the Conference Championships.

The biggest jump of the day came from Troy Loughry, who shot a tournament best 70 (E) to jump 27 spots in the individual standings. He followed Dobson up on hole seven and would hit par on his first three holes of the day. As he hit the turn, he hit his first birdie of the day, but got that stroke back two holes later. With six holes left on the back nine, Loughry would hit par on each hole, and he sat at even as he hit the turn to play his final six holes. He would hit par on the first three, but added a stroke on hole four, and would enter his final hole sitting at +1. He would finish out the day with a birdie on hole six to finish at even par for the day. Loughry and Dobson have been the two leaders for this young team this season, and look to continue that leadership into the conference championships.

The final Cardinal to crack the top 50 of the event was Zak Collins, who finished 47th after posting a 75 on the final day. He would finish with two birdies on the day, but it was his work on the back nine that led the way. After adding two strokes early, Collins was able to hit par on four of the final five holes, with the only break being a birdie on hole 16 that put him at +1 over the final nine holes. Lodin Femoen would round out the scoring golfers on the day, shooting a 76, with his best performance coming on the front nine. After adding three strokes over the first three holes, Femoen would hit five straight pars, before ending the day with a birdie on hole nine. Rounding out the field were the Cardinals two individual golfers in Elias Ekenes-Fosback (82) and Eirik Lindholm (79) to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Men’s Golf team returns to action on Monday, October 6th, when they begin day one of the 2025 MEC Men’s Golf Championships.
