Tommy Fleetwood on Ryder Cup triumph, Luke Donald’s future & USA fans’ behaviour at Bethpage
Well, the celebrations are just about starting to calm down for team Europe after that fantastic RDER Cup victory in New York. Several of the winning squad are back in action immediately this week at the Alfred Dunhill and one of the heroes is with Adam Vinnie. Now, Sunday was a special day for us all. I think uh it got a lot tighter than we uh would have preferred probably at the end, but I think uh ultimately, you know, very satisfying for us all to have uh gone over there and and done what we set out to do. So, that was that was amazing. And yeah, and um another week starts here at St. Andrews now. So woke up in St. Andrews this morning, so that was nice. Talk me through the celebrations then. Who who were the main characters on on the bus and on the flights back home. I think it was a team effort, a team collective effort as everything else is with team Europe and uh it was just a special night. Like it was um you know like the the the vibe between the team is always so strong, but then being able to celebrate together, you know, that means so much. So uh all of us from players, wives, caddies, backroom staff, you know, all of us just on such a high that uh we managed to do that together. So it was a nice it was a nice celebration. Your own performance as well throughout the the weekend. You must have been absolutely delighted with that. How how pleased were you with the way you played over in the States? Yeah, I I think um yeah, I I played really well. I you know, I was really pleased, you know, individually you’re just pleased that you contribute to the team. you just want to be the best teammate you can be and be um, you know, be a strong part of of team Europe really. So, I was uh, you know, I had two great partners over the first two days. Um, and then I I was I was I was disappointed. I I felt like I played well on Sunday and I I couldn’t get, you know, it’s a it’s a team like game, you know, that’s that’s what the Rder Cup is, but obviously when it comes to singles, you you feel accountable for taking care of your individual point. And I was I was ged that I couldn’t do that for the guys. But um you know, it was an amazing week and like I say, no matter how you play or whatever you’ve done, it doesn’t really matter if you’re if the team doesn’t get to 14 and a half points or 15 points, whatever you want to get to. So um just so happy that we all did it as a collective and we got to that point and um and yeah, we won the ride a cup away. So much has been made of the, you know, the crowd behavior, the fan behavior. A few things were said at some of your your teammates. How did you find it for you as an individual out on the course, that kind of interaction between the the supporters and and yourself? It was it was pretty Yeah, it was it was pretty rough. It was quite a hostile environment, but you know, we knew what we were walking into and and like we we were very ready for it. So, I don’t think um you know, again, as I say, as a team and the way that Luke prepared us, I don’t think anything came up that we weren’t ready for and and that we weren’t ready to handle. And um I think we showed that. I think we did an amazing job. Um, and like I say, you know, like winning an away cup in New York, uh, I think was thought of as one of the hardest things to do and and we all did it. You tried to speak to Luke Donald yet to try and convince him to stay on for another two years? Not yet. I mean, that decision is totally up to him. I think, uh, he’s he’s definitely earned the right to choose what he wants to do. Um, he’s given us, you know, four years of his life there in dedicating himself to to team Europe and captaining that team. And what an amazing job he’s done. I mean, I know I can speak for all of us that we’d say we’d love him to do it again, but um like I say, he’s already given us so much. So that that that rest on him, but he has been amazing. Just finally, where does this achievement rank amongst the favorite in in your career so far up there? It’s high. Yeah, it’s it’s high up there. I think uh yeah, fortunate to have achieved a lot of things so far. There’s still so much that I want to do, but um yeah, for now, God, I mean, enjoy enjoy what we’ve just accomplished. which I think every like I say everybody says it’s one of the hardest things to do in golf and um there was 12 of us players vice captains captain backing staff we all just went out there and and we did what people thought was very hard and we uh got the ride a

Voice sounding a bit raw there Tommy… Hope you haven't been celebrating too hard… *wink wink*.
Fair play to the four team members back at it in the Dunhill Links, supporting the DP World Tour shouldn't stop at the Ryder Cup.
I love Tommy but i hate how media trained all athletes are these days. They all say the same thing. Give us how you really feel tommy. Maybe a funny story or two about the celebrations. Its all good though it has been that way for years.
Golf heaven at St Andrews after all that sounds the best detox possible.
Finger pointing BLA BLA BLA…American fans were a complete disgrace….we all know who enables these idiots…he appeared to ensure they were at their most disgusting…I'm glad they lost, they deserved to lose – should have been by a 6 point margin…America the classless…
Golf is an individual sport. But the Ryder cup brings those individuals together to play together as a team with all the camaraderie and pride of your country and Continent.
Europe gets this and it showed over the weekend.
You know what else was on view over the weekend?
The orange criminal pos has given the people permission to be even bigger assholes than previously.
But the carry-on from the US on Friday and Saturday crossed a line of decency.
Personal verbal attacks on the Irish players was abhorrent and the throwing of beer on the wife of a player is plain assault.
It was vulgarity at its worst.
But I'm not really surprised at which country it was coming from.
The way the so called American Ryder Cup supporters carried on at this year's Ryder Cup is a disgrace. The American players made no effort to stop the abuse that was given from their so called fans.A investigation into all the abuse should be carried out, and those people should be brought to account for their actions, they are a disgrace to international golf and should never be allowed in to any country in the future for Ryder Cup competitions.
A class act well done Tommy and team.
Having worked at a golf club for 25 years these boys know how to celebrate! Could easily take on a rugby team, easily
