Have you ever wondered when watching golf on TV why no two golf swings are exactly the same? That’s because our bodies are all put together just a little different from one another. That’s going to have a direct effect on the shape of your golf swing. It’s also going to be a direct link to your setup. And that’s we’re going to focus on this video. I’m going to teach you how to get set up by learning my simple GPS, grip, posture, stance. I’m going to teach you how to find the setup that is best suited for you and your body style. Now, let’s get into it. The first piece to navigating your setup of the GPS is G, and it stands for grip. In golf, you’ve got your lead hand and your trail hand. Your lead hand is responsible for hinge and the control of impact. And your trail hand is responsible for the shape and all the characteristics of your swing. Lucky for you, I’m Ashley Null, aka the grip queen. I’ve developed an extremely unique and simple test to determine the exact placement of your trail hand. You do have options for your trail hand. Your trail hand can be placed on the top of the grip like Scotty Sheffller, on the side of the grip like Tiger Woods, or on the bottom like John Rom or Zack Johnson. If you’d like to access my free grip test, you can do that by clicking the link in the description below or visiting my website. Now, let’s talk lead hand. Lead hand placement is also important. We’re going to locate the bone that’s over here in the corner of the hand, which is the corner of your heel pad. We’re going to draw an imaginary line right down the center of our grip. We’re going to line that bone up right on that center line. Wrap the fingers around. A very simple test to know you’ve done this correctly is to release your thumb and your pointer finger. If you can bounce the club up and down, feeling that bone pressing down or that heel pad pushing right down the grip, you know you’ve got it on there correctly. Grip is so important. So, don’t skip on this test. Click the link description below or on my website. Find that trail hand and know the shape and the characters of your swing. If you’d like to know more about it, watch last week’s video and we’ll go into a deep dive of how the grip does affect the shape and the character of the swing. Now, let’s get on to posture. This second part, P, stands for posture. I have a very simple way to find the posture that is unique to you and your body style. It’s largely based on how long your arms are. You may not know this, but some people have a longer wingspan their height, and some people have a shorter wingspan than their height. So, if you watch golf on TV, you’re going to find some players who are bent look like they’re bent over a lot more than usual. That means they’ve got pretty short arms. If they have really long arms, you’re going to notice that they’re going to stand a little bit more vertical. Now, we can get the measuring tape out and do the whole nine yards, but we don’t have to do that. I’ve got a simple process that will find the correct setup for you and your arms that will work together and have you hitting the crisp shots of your life. So, let’s get right into it here. Step one is to stand up nice and straight. Step two, put a very slight bend the knee. So go from straight to unstraight. Then we’re going to bend at our hips until our fingertips touch the top of your kneecap. A lot of people go to the middle or the bottom. That’s too far. Right when you feel the top of that kneecap, that’s where you stop. Then you let your arms hang. Wherever gravity takes them, let them hang. Bring them together like you’re holding a club. And then go ahead and fit the club into the equation. That is the simplest way to get it done. A lot of players will ask me, “Well, how far should I be from the ball?” My answer is always this. Do these steps. Straight, unstraight, bend, top the knee, hang, put the club in the equation, and that’s it. Answers the question every single time. One more important piece to this setup is balance. We want to make sure we’re balanced on our feet correctly. Now, the simple way to find your balance is to go from one side to the other. Go from toes to heels. Rock back and forth. We don’t want to be in our toes, and we don’t want to be on our heels. We want the weight to be on the ball of the foot. So, rock back and forth and stop when you’re on the ball of the foot. And that’s going to give you the balance to allow you to push and create power in your swing. If you’re enjoying my videos, but would like a more structured step-by-step approach, as well as interactive mental game training designed to help you shoot your lowest scores and hit your best golf shots, you can subscribe to my app by visiting my website here in the corner of the screen. And I’d love to see you on the inside. S stands for stance. We’re basically talking about where are we going to place our feet. If you start to pay attention when you’re watching golf on TV, you’re going to notice that there’s a variety of different foot configurations that the pros use. They’re using the one that is most natural to their body. For me, I have a tight left hip. So, you’re going to watch when I do the exercise to find the stance. Watch what happens here. Okay. So, the very simple exercise, which also doubles as a very nice pre-shot routine that Scotty Shuffler does on literally every swing, is making continuous swings. So, I’m going to do is I’m going to start with my feet straight ahead and I’m going to make three continuous swings. It’ll let my feet kind of dance around and let them go where they want to go. So, what do you notice for me? My left foot cranked out. That’s the only way I can freely swing straight to my target is my foot is placed just like this. So, I don’t know what’s going to happen when you do it, but I want you to try it and let your feet stay in their happy place every single shot. Now, this little three swing exercise, like I said, is a great pre-shot routine. Scotty Sheffer does it on every single shot. It’s quite simple. Just make a few swings back and forth without stopping. Three is good. Then, take a few seconds to walk up to it and one second to hit it. Boom. Super free, flowy swing with the correct foot stance makes it easier on my body and so much more natural and powerful for me to swing directly at my target. Thank you so much for watching this video. Please consider liking, subscribe, and comment with your grip test number after you’ve taken the test. And look forward to seeing you next Sunday.
