Rich Eisen Puts Rowdy Ryder Cup Fans on Blast for Heckling Rory McIlroy & European Team

It finished pretty close. Um it was a total blowout for the first two days. Uh and then Europe Europe held on. It was very disappointing. Very disappointing. Um one of my favorite sound bites afterwards was somebody asking uh Keegan Bradley if um uh if he got out coached or out whatever. And Xander Schoffley who was there. There were about five of the players surrounding um Keegan on a podium. There’s like two levels of podium. And Xander Schoffley goes, “Yeah, he should have had us make more putts.” And I thought that like good for you, Xander. Like, you know, you know what I mean? Like, and Keegan was like beating himself up about it’s my job to set up the course. I have those advantages of being the home captain and I I I wish I had some of those decisions back. And Xander Schoffley’s like, “Yeah, you should have make us made us make more putts.” And you know, uh it wasn’t just that, too. The Europeans were just lights out for the first two days of lights. a Tommy Fleetwood man. Tommy Fleetwood. At one point, Tommy Fleetwood, I think, had more points personally than the US had points collectively. At one point on Saturday over the weekend, and I just want to say this as well. If you were one of the people in the crowd, gallery, whatever you want to call it, certainly not patrons in Long Island. That was screaming stuff that I was reading that you were screaming at, say Rory M. Shane Lowry. It’s like, what are we doing? Let me just say this. You are a loser. You’re a loser. And you are not in any way, shape, or form additive or representative of what our country should be known as around the world. This is forget about the real world right now about how many people are viewing this through the prism of the real world and politics and things of that nature. Fine. That’s just the way things are in this world. It’s all about and I understand that there is a nationalistic jingoistic way to look at being a fan at the RDER Cup, but to scream at stuff when Rory’s like over a putt like there is it’s the end of the day the end of the day there is a necessary amount of decorum required to be somebody in the stands at a golf tournament. Period. End of story. No matter how you feel about America or golf or whatever or the Americans you’re rooting for, the stuff that I read that was directed at some of the Europeans and their families, including projectiles, if you’re one of those people, you need to look in the mirror and say to yourself, “Why am I a loser?” Period. End of story. Full stop. Hard agree. Yeah. Tzo in Iowa, you’re here on the Rich Eisen Show. What’s up, Tzo? Yo, what up, Rich? Hey, I can’t agree with you more. Um, I I was taken back by how our fans reacted and from the sounds of it, they weren’t even really chanting for for the US. And I’m all for, you know, us rooting for the US, you know, and having fun with it. Sure. But you do have to have respect. And I thought that there was so much that they could have done better. and they just didn’t do it. And it’s just it’s saddening. And I don’t want to paint with a broad brush. I’m sure there were some people at Beth Page Black who were handling their business as a as a a member of the gallery uh properly. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. Calling people names is bad, and worked against our team. It fired up those Champions to play even better. It’s just plain stupid-

  2. Ryder Cup and the Phoenix WM Open should have limits on the amount of alcohol you can buy.
You get 4 drink coupons when you buy a ticket which can be redeemed.
    No more all day drinking.

  3. 'It's not who we are'. If its not, why do I hear someone say this almost every day?

  4. At this point I'd rather see these events run like The Masters… it's a lottery of true fans, an honor to attend, and it would change the face of the event entirely. The greed for more alcohol and ticket sales always results in what unfolded. Most European players on these teams have been living in the US, raising their families, for more than a decade. Belligerent drunks at the Ryder Cup absolutely ruined it for real golf fans.

  5. There’s one single person who sets the standard, encourages the behavior and has reached the pinnacle through the exact same stuff.

    Period, end of story.

  6. As a Canadian fan of golf and the Ryder Cup – I appreciate your comments, Rich. I love a sport that encourages civility, respect and decorum. As Rory said – cheer for your team – support them – and leave it at that!

    Great golf for 3 days!

  7. I wouldn't mind seeing a one day tournament played for laughs where fans yell out like they're at a NBA, NFL, NHL, or MLB game. Not the Ryder Cup or any PGA event.

  8. Well said Rich I am from Ireland living in the US but have US citizenship and I am ashamed at how US fans at the event let down the reputation of most Americans who are good people

  9. The fans should appreciate watching amazing golfers on both teams and just cheer for your team. Denigrating athletes playing their hearts out is not the play.

  10. Just awful, shameful behavior. And this is true in ANY sport where it exists, I think it just stands out and gets called out more in golf.

  11. I think we are forgetting one thing. It was in the U.S.A. but more specifically, it was in New York. New York fans. Need I say more?
