Is this new Titus golf ball a scam? Now, I got my hands on the Titus Prov1 left dot golf balls, and I wanted to test them out to see what was going on that makes these golf balls so special. Now, these balls were a limited release because they’ve mainly been for tour use only, most famously winning the 2018 Masters. So, I got the sweet spot on, and we’re going to use that as the baseline for the rest of the test. Now, the compression test is where this started to get weird. I threw it in there so we could see who this golf ball was going to be made for, like what swing speed was going to be best and how soft it is. And it actually came up really soft, like 70 mph swing speed soft, but the box says that the Broy one’s supposed to be the softer ball, which in this case isn’t true. So, I thought I’d throw it back in for another test because the Prov1 is supposed to be for 95 mph swing speeds and this is coming out at 70. And on the second test, it came out at 80. So, still softer. So, I threw in my cutters that way we could see what was going on inside because this golf ball has been reselling for hundreds of dollars. Even I’ve seen a couple for like 1,800 bucks out there. So, if this golf ball isn’t actually how they say it’s supposed to be, I wanted to see what was going on inside. And structurally, it seems perfect, which is exactly how tightless golf balls usually come. It’s perfectly centered. The mantle layer is evenly distributed. But other than that, it seems great. So, I’m not sure what’s going on with the compression.

  1. Marketing tactic, release the same thing but only change a few things like the look or color or name. Notice this tactic happens when companies release things every year instead of every other year, it’s not hard to spot and once you do you’ll start saving your money.

  2. The box is referring to the feel of the ball, not the compression. Compression does not necessarily equate to feel, there are low compression balls that feel like rocks and high compression balls that feel soft. Standard Pro V1 compression is around 87. Titleist AVX and TM TP5 are about 80. If it's testing at 80, it is solidly in the medium compression category which is where Pro V1 usually sits.
