Most golfers are obsessed with their club path, but they forget the real secret lies in the hand path. If your hands move down at the start of your down swing, you’ll be a terrible striker. Stop working on that garbage. If you get the grip moving forwards and then down, you’ll shallow the club naturally, square it at impact, and start compressing the ball like the pros. In this video, I’m going to show you exactly how to train that hand path so you can unlock some premium ball striking. Today, we’re talking out andout ball striking. If there is one ingredient that we could all be better at, and that is striking the golf ball out the center of the face, it will improve the scatter of your golf shots, and it will improve the distance you project your golf ball at, and that will ultimately mean lower scores, lower handicap. So, let’s talk about finding the center of the face. When you’re out on the golf course, when you are hitting shots, you should always be aware that if you’re hitting it out the toe, the adjustment needed to then change that strike point and move it more out of the heel. When you can then start to shift the strike around from toe to heel, you are in control. Because at that point when you then get the ball coming out the middle of the face because you dictated it, you are going to be in control of those golf shots. So ball striking, let’s talk about track of the handle. Now if you watch enough of my content, this video and this video in particular, you will know that club path is always dictated by the handle path. And when you control the handle path and you take ultimate control of the head path, when we think about finding the sweet spot, because this grip does directly opposite to what we want the club head to do, that’s where we get unstuck as golfers. If I move that grip out to the right, that club head is moving to the left. If I move that grip up, that club head is moving down. And that’s why whenever we have a knee-jerk reaction to a golf shot, our decision usually is the wrong one. Now, you will have seen some sort of alignment stick nonsense on the floor on your travels. No doubt about it. But unfortunately, this is about as useful as a chocolate teacup. The reason being is because the club can swing over the top of these canes in an effort to make you understand that this golf swings a circle. Kick the alignment sticks out the way. Get ourselves some wedges. If you’re a regular to my channel, you will have seen these wedges. I use them for footwork. I use them for lots of different things in the golf swing, but they are going to really help us out when it comes to ball striking. So, we’re going to get a couple of the wedges laid on the floor here, and we’re going to stand them up on end. And for those of you out there, I think you’re going to be able to work out where we’re going with this. I’m going to point this club, uh, this cane rather, at our target. And if you think about that’s the outside of the circle. So, the outside of the circle is the straight line from the golf ball to the target. The club should never ever ever ever stray to the right of that orange cane. I’m now going to take this wedge, pop it on the orange cane. And you’ll now recognize that we’ve now got instead of the 2D, the flat on the floor cane, we’ve now got something lifted in the sky that now gives us the opportunity to feel the outside of the circle. That golf club in its entirety wants to arc from the inside and the inside. And if you’ve seen enough of my content with my over the head view, you will have seen the club head moving into in most notably on this video here. So, what we’re looking to do is now with the club on the top of the ball is make some swings. So, we’re going to make some swings and therefore as you move the golf club back, you’re going to move the club head inside. Now, you can see the angle I’ve got these wedges at is a bit aggressive. That’s okay for now because what I want us to do is just simply take yourself to the top of your back swing and then move the grip back above the ball. When you move the grip back above the ball and I did this on one of my live sessions that I do daily mont Monday to Friday, do hit your notification bell because I stand in the bay. I answer your questions, demonstrate live. So, I am your go-to coach. I will answer all of your questions. Do stay tuned for those lives. Going to go to the top of the back swing and we’re going to move the grip down. And as we move the grip down, I want you to recognize the fact that this grip moving down is making the club head arc inside to inside. As opposed to those of you out there that are absolute nut cases that have swung the club from the inside, tuck the elbow, bowed the wrist, and tried to get the path out to the right. This wedge over here is not going to end very well. Now, as I said at the start, this these two wedges have made the golf swing way too acute. And that’s where you see those canes on the floor. They’re completely out of scale. So, what we’re now going to do is keep the tip of the wedge on the cane, and I’m just going to reduce the arc. So, I’m now going to slide the cane away, and I’m just going to reduce the arc. Now you can see that’s the straight line with the wedge. I’ve now moved it so we’ve got a slight kick. So much so that when I get the kick, we can manage to fit a golf ball through. Excuse me. So there’s the straight line. There’s enough room for a ball to get through on both sides. And there we place the golf ball. At that point, we’re now in a situation where we can feel the outside of the circle, but not in a straight line. We can see that it’s arked in and in. So that when I now start to put myself up, I can still make my takeaway as usual, whereas previously they were too arked. You can see that that club head is arcing in. And you can see that club head is arcing in. Which is why when the canes get so angular down at setup, it’s just too acute when you now lift the wedges up off the floor, you really get a lovely sensation of being able to move the grip forwards. Now when you move the grip back down underneath you, you start to sense the arc in and in. Now, when you do that, all of a sudden, that club head will make up the shortfall and swing itself out to the golf ball. That path line, the strike point will all start to line up. That was a misread from Trackman, I can assure you. And it might confuse it with the wedges. So, we’re going to go forwards. The grip’s going to work down. Club head’s going to swing. And so at this point, we’ve got that club arcing beautifully into in. Let me just move those wedges a touch further away so we can see if Trackman can watch my club head move through. Again, you can see those wedges are in and in. There’s my back swing. There’s my down swing. Moving the grip down, making the club head arrive from the inside. Because of the momentum of the grip, it then pulls the club back in. And this now makes the outside of the circle a nogo zone. both before the ball and after the ball. Because when you’re only controlling the outside of the circle at the point we strike the golf ball at, it’s too easy for the club to arrive from the inside and swing out to the right. It’s too easy from the club to swing outside in and swing to the left. That’s why this zone in front of the golf ball, waste of time. Don’t need anything there. Because the reality is that club does more damage before or after the golf ball. But now I’ve got clarity in seeing my club arc in and in. Now you can see I’ve got such a small gap in here. I know how critical it is to line up the face, which is why when I’m hitting this, it makes me a tad nervous because I’m not worried about hitting the the wedges with my club head. I’m just more worried about hitting the wedges with my golf ball. Club bounced off the floor there and hit the wedge. So, I thought I’d go all out on that one. And when you see the overhead shots, it will really change your view on how the grip must move forwards. That was lovely. So, this grip moving in this direction that pulls the path from the inside gets rid of your shank and gives you the feel and control of getting the ball out the center of the face. So, now I’m going to just move those a little bit to the side. And again, you can keep them there. I’m only moving them to the side just so I don’t knock seven bells out of the second wedge with my golf ball. I’m going to do exactly the same drill. Grip down, swing. Grip down and swing over the wedges. Grip down and swing. Grip down and swing. Now we’re going to go really forwards. Really in. Really forwards. Really in. Just look what’s happening to the path. Look at the angle of attack. Look at the face to path. Look at the ball striking. That’s what I’m feeling when I’m moving the golf club through strike, which allows me to hit down, line the path up, line the face up. That track of the grip is what’s helping me dictate the strike point. Because when you’ve got this grip going in this direction, it’s now one for one. This direction here is kicking the head out, but at the same time, it’s now giving you a chance to get it more out the toe. As opposed to what’s happening in when you’re hitting it out the heel is the grips moving up, you’ve got no room to pull it in. So, you’re always going to be heel bias. So getting the grip down lines the face up and really starts to get your right side moving through. But it’s such a great drill in giving you a sense of how the path works from the yin and back in. And it also gives you a great sensation of where that grip needs to travel while still keeping the in toin nature of the outside of the club head. That’s a biggie today. That’s a drill that’s going to keep you honest. You can see it’s not easy. Are you tired of paying too much for your premium leather golf gloves? Head over to gxgolfgloves.com. This is the best explanation of the ‘articulated lorry/water skier’ analogy you’ve done so far. …..those wedges are catching up with the broom in
